What a friendly campsite! We had a spacious pitch on Meadow Field Centre - families talk to each other. Even the staff in the shop are cheerful.
The facilities were of a high standard and clean and we didn't have to wait except for the washing up at peak times.
There are well tended flower beds - it seems to be lovingly looked after. We had a great week.
The campsite is on a peninsular. There is the 5 minute (walk) beach - beautiful sandy cove, calm water.
And the 15 minute beach - for bodyboarding and surfing patrolled by RNLI. We liked it all.

My family love this site. So close to the beach! It is a pricey site, but if you consider the cost of travelling to other beaches and the ever increasing cost of beach carparks - it is worth it.
Facilities are great - clean, modern and sufficient number. The family showers are a great size when you have kids to get de-sandified.
Good shop - stocks your basics. Beautiful landscaping - always looks clean and neat. Pitches are level and a decent size, though not massive.
Only pity is the number of static vans which all have the best views.

Fantastic campsite! Staff were so friendly when we checked in even though it was only for the one night. We pitched our tent on the over flow field which had a super view of the beach.
Campsite was spotlessly clean throughout including the shower/wash up and toilets. The beach was a few minutes walk from the site and so much to do within the surrounding area.
We sampled coasteering at Harlyn Sands (easy walking distance from campsite) which was so much fun! Definitely return next year.

We spent 1 week here during main holidays and were just on the outside of the main Meadows field with undisturbed views of the sea, headland and lifeboat station.
The area where we were was very quiet in comparison to the main Meadows and evenings where very busy but I agree with other comments that after a certain time it was very quiet and we could hear the sea.
The toilet and shower facilities were excellent but stretched due to the site being full to capacity. Excellent family shower rooms but we would have to queue for a short time. Washing up facilities were always busy.
The only negative about the pitch was we were open to the elements being about 200 yards away from the cliff edge with no shelter so very windy at times.
The Shop was excellent being open from 8am to 8pm and selling everything you could need including fresh Cornish pasties, cakes and bread with very friendly staff. The beach is again excellent and we spent many an evening sat watching the sun set while the children played. Good site but not sure if I would return with the masses during July and August.

Stayed at Mother Ivey's first week of kids summer holidays and again last October. Both times we have had a fabulous time. It is a little pricey to stay here compared to some sites but the location is stunning with great beaches and walks. The bonus for us is that we can take our dog on any of the 4 nearby beaches.
The staff are very friendly and the shop is great for most things. We did our main food shopping at the Tesco's at nearby Padstow. As already mentioned in other reviews the access to this site is very narrow in places but this won't put us off visiting again. Make sure you follow the site's instructions about how to get there across the golf course!
The toilets were clean and the showers are good. I did have to queue a lot in the July trip for the shower but I suppose that is to be expected in peak season.
In July the site was quite noisy in our field during the early evening with large groups gathering and children with vuvuzelas which was quite annoying! (Parents fault not the site's). However the site was always quiet after 11pm which I think was enforced by the site's security. In October though the site was very peaceful and all we could hear was the sound of the waves :)
We visited Padstow, Port Isaac, Watergate Bay and Healey's Cider Farm. All good trips.
Overall a lovely site that we will definitely be returning to next year.

We booked in March 2010 and got the last allocated electric Pitch in the Top Meadow so early booking def advised.
The site was well marked out and the facilities were excellent, the toilets/showers were cleaned at least 3 times a day and the family showers were very spacious, although the water was very hot and my 2 young girls got quite tearful.
The shop was well stocked, well priced and I found the staff to be very helpful and polite, in fact all staff were, yes it is a strict site with regards to rules etc but that is in everyone's benefit.
The beach is fantastic, a 10 min walk through the site and a steep path down but a lovely beach and it never got crowded.
We very rarely book the same campsite twice as we like to explore different towns and counties but I have a feeling we will definitely be returning here.

Just spent an enjoyable 6 nights at Mother Ivey's.
My husband booked this and at £40 a night I did not believe any campsite could be worth the price.
However, the location is absolutely superb. The beach joined to the campsite is stunning (be sure to visit at low tide to see it at its best), and then if you want to explore the coastal path is a pleasant walk to 3 other beaches,
Situated in the 'square' ( a small cul-de-sac) we experienced a very social camping experience as all the surrounding pitches had boys of age near to ours, they only visited the park once as the ball games outside the van were more appealing.
Superb shop, with local meats and bread etc at reasonable prices.
Lots of staff looking after the site.
There are lots of loos/showers however not enough to cope with July/Aug demand. Being a beach site everyone went straight of the beach to the showers and there were queues also for washing up.
In July and Aug an additional field is in place for campers which I think puts the facilities under extreme pressure (also does not look as nice to be on as main site for nearly the same price).
I would definitely return, but next time I would go in June and be sure to take a wet suit.

As mentioned in all of the other reviews, the location of this site is excellent with easy (walking) access to a very good beach. The beach is particularly good for young children and if you want body boarding, a 10 minute walk leads to another beach with decent waves.
The site itself is well maintained with staff always buzzing around empying bins etc.
However, the site is massively let down by the facilities. In August, they open an area called 'The Meadows' which is basically a huge field crammed with tents. There are also tents and caravans in the main body of the site. We were in an area called 'The Square' which is near to the Meadows and found that the facilities were not adequate for the number of people trying to use them. For example, there were only 7 washing up sinks nearby meaning that in the evening, there was often a large queue of people waiting to wash up.
Also, the situation with showers became quite tiresome. There are 3 in the ladies toilets, the same in the mens and then a 'Family room' area with 4 showers. Unless you wanted to shower late at night, you pretty much ALWAYS had to queue. As parents with 2 young children, we tried to use the family rooms and time after time became annoyed after queueing for half an hour to find a single adult coming out of one of the family rooms; they clearly couldn't be bothered to queue for the correct showers and used the family ones instead with the extra room.
Also, the showers weren't necessarily the cleanest. Over the week we had to clear empty shampoo bottles, used cotton wool buds & sanitary towel wrappers from the floor of the showers before using them. Not the nicest, particularly with young children.
I appreciate that we went to the site at peak time and it was therefore busy, but the facilities could have done with someone checking them for cleanliness more than once in the evening and last thing at night. Also, a few more sinks etc wouldn't go amiss.
Whilst the above sounds incredibly negative, we will go back to the site for the location alone. If the weather is decent, you can literally leave your car on-site and spend all holiday on the beach. There is a small on-site shop which stocks a reasonable range of goods and the prices aren't too extreme. Staff in the shop in particular are very friendly and helpful.
The lifeboat station which can be seen from the beach has a practice launch every Wednesday night which the kids enjoyed watching (so did the adults secretly).
So, overall:
The location is fantastic (score - 10/10).
The prices are steep but, probably worth it (score 7.5/10).
The facilities are the big let-down (score 3/10).

We have just returned from our third visit to this site, although it is still one of our favourites, as we love the location, we felt the site did not meet our previous expectations of a five star site.
This site is located on Trevose Head giving fantastic views of the sea and surrounding countryside. We found this site two years ago and loved the beach and family atmosphere of the site. No noisy clubs or rowdy groups. We love this area and the site gives great to access to explore this part of North Cornwall.
On arrival our pitch had not been mowed and I had to find one of the wardens to do this, he was mowing another pitch which was not occupied for a further two nights. As we visited in high season the site is very busy with all of the Meadows full. I do think this area should be better catered for in terms of showers and toilets as there are long queues for showers and to just clean teeth on the main site facilities. These facilities get dirty very quickly and we did not feel that the cleaning standards were as high or as frequent as they should be. The same sink still poured dirty water on to your feet as last year.
The washing up area is good however there are long queues at peak times, again because it serves the Meadows area as well.
The play area is great and our children 5 and 7 loved the freedom and independence. Although I did feel it needed a bit of TLC as it has remained unchanged or updated.
On departure I did mention the cleaning standards to the staff, who seem disinterested in my comments explaining that they were employing some students who did not always do their job thoroughly.
I am sure we will visit the site again, although I have to agree with other comments regarding the price and the site being run very much as a business.

We have just returned from taking our 6 month old on her first camping trip. Mother Ivey's is a perfect campsite for families. On arrival, reception were friendly and helpful, and we were given a map to find out clearly marked pitch. The pitch was a good size and level, with views out to sea in 2 directions!
Showers and toilets were very clean, well maintained, and free of queues. There is a block with family showers in (cubicles have strap-in baby seats) which we didn't use but could be really handy. Dishwashing facilities were clean but got busy at peak times. The outside 'wet-suit' shower was great for a quick rinse of the dog.
The on site shop is really well stocked at fair prices. Day-old pasties and pastries are sold ridiculously cheap in the mornings-have a look on the marked shelf before shelling out for the newest batch!
The short walk to the beach is steep but well worth it - hard work to get the pushchair back up though. Really easy access to the coast path for dog-walking. There is a play park on site with a variety of equipment-great for slightly older children. The site has strict rules and these were mostly adhered to. There was no noise after hours at all.
There is loads to do within easy driving distance and lots of information available on site to help you plan day trips. While this site is expensive for a small family such as ours, it is in my opinion worth the money as the site is so well kept, and showers etc are free. Brilliant, we will be returning!
