We stayed at this site for the first time during a beautifully warm and sunny weekend. We had always wanted to stay, but high season prices had put us off. We paid £29 per night, mid-season, for an electric perimeter pitch. This can increase up to £50 per night during school holidays. This is about twice the price of nearby Padstow Touring Park.

The main attraction of the site is without a doubt the location. To be able to walk to the site’s small beach is a fantastic treat especially in the evenings, although in high season I would think that this would be very crowded due to its size and the number of pitches available. Constantine Bay and Booby’s Bay are both within a 15 minute relatively flat and easy walk and these beaches are best for body boarding and surfing, just make sure you observe the lifeguards.

I had high expectations for the facilities due to the cost and I was generally disappointed. The facilities in the Booby’s section of the site had the most powerful and longest lasting showers, but nowhere to keep your things dry. The other shower block had separate changing areas but the showers were slow and the drain from the sinks emptied on to your feet into a gulley. There was no hot water on one day of our stay and a few of the ladies loos did not flush. They were generally kept clean, but were no better than other sites we have stayed on in the area.

The most disappointing aspect for me was the feeling that this clearly is very much a business. Although, reception staff were efficient and the lady in the shop was friendly the site seemed very formal. A very stern man with a clipboard approached everyone individually on departure day informing us that pitches will need to be vacated promptly, which we always do. There were no pleasantries, not even good morning. There is no option to pay for a late checkout, other than paying for another night. As I was told, “why should we make an exception for you?”

My husband and I arrived back on site at about 11.00pm one evening and doing the sensible thing to avoid car noise, left our car at Reception and walked to the nearest toilet block. We were told quite firmly that out car would need to be moved next to our tent and we had to use the toilets closest to our pitch. We obeyed as by this time any effort to avoid disturbing our neighbours had been wasted. I am all for on-site security, but I don’t think I looked like a threat in my flip flops and carrying a wicker basket! The family next to us had requested a non-electric pitch but were advised that none were available and they would have to pay for electric, even though they had no way of using it. This cost them an extra £10 per night. It became clear at the end of the weekend that there had been numerous non-electric pitches available.

Its worth noting that the approach road is extremely narrow and we saw lots of reversing caravans and cars. We are complete Cornwall-aholics but this is narrow even in our experience.

We spent a couple of days here at the end of a touring week, so weren't here for long. We chose it for the location, having stayed in a cottage in Constantine Bay before our child went to school and we could pay June prices! We were desperate to come back but not to pay August prices so we came camping. This site fitted the location and our tastes perfectly. [No rowdy entertainment and kids clubs.]

It is very big, but didn't feel cramped at all. We camped on The Meadows field and had a good choice of pitches which were generous in size. There were plenty of bins and water points and a portaloo cabin serving just the field. Initially I wasn't keen on this, but found it to be at the luxury end of portaloos and kept very clean. We did have to queue occasionally and mostly ended up walking to the main block which was about thirty seconds further away, but it was very useful late at night!

The ladies in the main block had taken quite a toll during the summer and at least one sink emptied its dirty water over my feet instead of into the drainage channel. Showers were free and hot, but way too hot for my daughter so I ended up rinsing her hair using a cup with water from the sink [we were in a family shower cubicle fortunately which has sink in it too]. Even I couldn't tolerate the temperature of one shower in the family block - not quite sure what the point of scalding showers is. Husband reported good things of the mens block. The wet suit rinsing station was excellent for getting sand off the dog when we got back from the beach - wish more campsites had this! The queue for washing up was horrendous even though there were a good half dozen sinks. With hundreds of campers I suppose this is inevitable in August.

The shop was very good, as mentioned by others already, with cheerful service, good cheap freezer pack service, an excellent range of goods and wonderful hot cornish pasties, which served us as lunch before we left. Just outside the site at the entrance to the footpath to Booby's Bay and Constantine Bay was an ice cream van who was also excellent. Can't go wrong.

My only real gripe with this campsite is the price. You pay a flat rate to include tent, pup tent and up to six people. If you are a group of six with a pup tent this is fine as it does work out the same as any other campsite. But there are ony three of us and only one tent. I felt it was a bit greedy to have to pay for far more people than we had, and were paying double what we had paid on other equally good campsites. Yes, the facilities are good, but with so many people they need to be. We had to pay £5 per day for the dog, whereas most sites charge £1 or £2. Ouch!

In conclusion, if you can stomach the inflated prices this is a perfect site location-wise. But although well maintained and rather chic, it is expensive.

What can I say - this is the best site ever! Unless, of course, you want a site with a club, swimming pool and no rules regarding noise. Noise after 11pm not tolerated - we really appreciate this. There is no pub within easy walking distance. We have been coming to this site for approx 15 years off and on.

We prefer the super pitches although we have camped on The Green. Pitch DL1 is a bit of a pain: people walk up to this pitch in order to get a signal on their mobile so you are privvy to lots of annoying conversations. Also when it rains, people drive to the toilet block and the driver often leave the engine running whilst wife/kiddies go to the loo - noise and fumes right by your pitch!

The site is quite expensive especially if you have more than 1 dog, but the beaches and walks are well worth it. The showers are great and you don't pay extra for them. There is always plenty of hot water for dishwashing and there is an outside shower for washing wetsuits. The site is dog-friendly. Padstow is the local fishing village - now taken over by Rick Stein. Gets very crowded in the summer but is lovely out of season.

There are so many things to do in this area I couldn't begin to mention them. We are going back again this year to a super pitch and are caravaning for the 1st time.Wifi is available at a cost but reception is a bit hit and miss.Children's park is really nice. There is a small laundry but you can only use your own powder/conditioner in the larger machines - the smaller ones use supplied detergent/fabric conditioner.

After spending several holidays here in a static caravan we decided to save a few bob and give the camping a go – twice! Both times we were in the additional field for peak season. The first time we had a non-electric pitch on the edge of the field, nearest the cliff top. It was high up and windy as hell! We had no sleep due to the noise of the wind flapping our tent. On the second trip we booked an electric pitch on the other side of the field and it was super. We were on the outskirts next to the hedge, so it was quite private and fairly quiet, despite a footpath running behind the hedge. The hook up point was quite a long way away from our tent, luckily we had a very long cable. There were portable toilet blocks in place for the busy season, which were fine, but we tried to use the main toilet block nearer reception, which was larger and nicer (if a little dated). The shop was pretty well stocked as usual and the staff were friendly and helpful. We love this site for the fact that it is so quiet and unspoiled. No pool or noisy club, but a lovely sandy private beach. There’s also a play area for children. The site is immaculate throughout with beautiful landscaping and pretty flowers. Some lovely walks in the area, but not really any other shops in walking distance. St Merryn is a short drive with takeaway and a couple of shops. Not the cheapest place in the world but a lovely site and well worth a visit.

This was our 2nd year at this site. We booked it last year in the same pitch as we had such a great time. We had a super sized pitch in the meadow field near the play area which suited our 6 & 7 boy & girl, it has a sandy base so good in all weathers.

The site is very well managed with friendly and helpful staff some we got to know by name basis. The place is kept very well with loads of recycling areas. There is a large amount of static homes on this site therefore the shop and launderette facilities are good. The shop had new owners this year. They were helpful and offered a good range of products well priced wine etc under a fiver. 25p per ice block to freeze. A book exchange with donations to the life boat. The bakery delivers fresh breads rolls croissants etc delicious and you have to be quick they queue 20 deep at 8 am to get them! also Cornish pasties and sausage rolls from local butchers.

We like the enforcement of the 11pm quiet time ideal when you have exhausted children and parents. The private beach is steep and you need to be wary with the kids, however boobies and constantine (rock pools and smaller warm bathing pools and big surf!) both walkable are fabulous and have life guards. The fact that there no bars or clubs close by is an asset just ice cream vans and loos what else do you need? You can hire surf boards and get lessons at nearby Harlyn Bay. You can visit padstow life boat and view it practice launch on Wednesday evenings from the campsite.

Yes it is busy in August but too be honest a well run campsite should be and as for prices you get what you pay for, it isnt cheap a static to hire is just under a thousand a week in peak season so its all relative. We didn't queue for a shower just don't expect a shower at 6pm with everyone else. Loads of hot water for washing up and this year luckily for us it stayed dry bar the last evening which was breezy to say the least.

We will be going again next year and will have to book well in advance and judging by the people we saw again this time round its popular with lots of families year in year out and perhaps one of cornwall's best kept secrets.

This was our fist camping trip to a proper camp site and it was very positive.

We were in the Meadows field (camping field) and it was very nice. The pitches were a good size with plenty of room around the tents. Water is readily accessible within the field and there are plenty of showers/toilets. Needless to say, they were busy at busy times, but the site was pretty much full all the time we were there.

There was a good atmosphere in the site and plenty of staff around should you need them.

The beach is lovely and was not overcrowded while we were there, although the path down to the beach is a bit steep.

The access road isn't great, but then how many cornish roads are wide enough! Take your time and know how wide your car is.

I'd happily go back next year, my only concern is the fact it's a 1000 mile round trip!

Location; location; location. Can't be bettered. Beautifully laid out; clean; well looked after all super positive.

At the end of the day you pay for what you get; it costs a bit more but it is worth it.

On-site shop reasonably priced; and all facilities are clean and tidy.

Beautiful walks out to any of the 'Seven Bays for Seven Days' and up around the lifeboats; you can even watch the Padstow Lifeboat crew practising.

A real gem.

We have visited a few times over the years, and just went back for a weekend visit to join our family who are holidaying there for a fortnight.

The site is clean and well cared for, we arrived after hours, but there were clear instructions telling us what to do.

Our luxury pitch was positively huge, and the rest of the park is well laid out. Electric hook-up fairly close, water and waste close, so not miles to get to.

Toilets and showers were clean and never had to queue, (but this is early July, height of season is a bit different!)

Great playground for the kids, they loved it.(2 kids age 7 & 5.)

Staff were very friendly, always saying hello and constantly around the park keeping it all tidy and sorted out.

The shop was slightly more expensive than a supermarket, but it is convenient and isn't extortionate, a good range of items.

The main good point of this site is the location and close proximity to the beach, 5 minutes and you're on a beautiful beach, can just pop up and down the slope. It is a bit steep but well worth it.

It may seem a bit pricey, but you are paying for the convenience of the location and the gorgeous beach. So if you want a lovely site, with a lovely beach, go to Mother Ivey's Bay!

Just got back from a very happy 10 nights here.

The site is very well maintained, the staff friendly and helpful, the toilets clean, the water hot. There is a playground for the kids too. The shop is well stocked for a camping shop and there are good washing up, launderette and wetsuit washing facilities.

We found the standard pitch fine for our very large tent (Dakota 8) and car to fit side by side.

What made this site for us though, was the location. The private beach was absolutely stunning, with very calm water perfect for our little kids, there were also some good rock pools. You could walk to Booby's bay which was good for surfing. A short drive to the beautiful Padstow, Bedruthan Steps, and Newquay and all it has to offer.

I'm not sure we would be happy to pay the peak season price for the facilities available, and it seems it would be very busy and cramped. (The Meadows field was being prepared for row upon row of tents as we left). Also the water was too hot for children, with no facility to change the temperature, which made convincing them to shower quite difficult!

This is a well run and extremely well looked after site, with good toilet facilities and washing up facilities. There are places provided for washing wet suits as well. There is

A well stocked shop on site and access to a fantastic sandy beach, ideal for body boarding! Dogs are allowed on the beach too!

We have a standard size tent and our only disappointment was the size of our pitch, the tent only just fitted on it so we had to park the car in front of the tent, normally we would park the car at the side. BUT this did not spoil the holiday, there is a camping field but we were not on that, had we been there would have been more room.

The location was great, the site is a few miles from Padstow, which is a lovely harbour village and well worth a visit, and a 20 minute drive from Newquay with its fantastic beaches and nightlife and Surfing!

Nearby there are several amazing beaches, Boobys bay is one, and there is the architectural amazing lifeboat launch visible from the campsite. Cornwall's beaches are great as is the rugged coastline and the history it contains. I recommend a visit to Tintagel, and a boat trip from Padstow that takes you along the coast and if you are lucky a family of dolphins will follow the boat as they did on our last trip!

I will be going back!
