Our first visit to a large site (we usually go to small sites as they tend to be quieter) & chosen because of both its location & the great reviews. We live in Cornwall & wanted a site not too far away for the early May Bank Holiday weekend (1st-4th). We booked a pitch with electric hook up a couple of days in advance & didn't think £16.64 per night including hook up & showers was at all expensive compared to other close-to-the-sea sites in Cornwall. However, lovely as it is, we wouldn't consider coming here & paying £38+ in high season. As noted by a previous reviewer, after reading some reviews we weren't really sure what to expect in reception. However, the ladies in reception &, in fact, all the staff we encountered on the site were nice & friendly. The site is in a fantastic location & is really well kept without being manicured and perfect. The toilets & showers were always clean & hot water always available. Only gripes were 1) one of the 3 ladies' showers didn't work well over the whole weekend & 2) each burst of water from the shower lasted less than a minute before you had to punch the button again. The on site shop was very well stocked & had long opening hours. Access to the beautiful sheltered beach & coast path couldn't have been easier (couple of minutes' walk). Also, just outside the site entrance there's a footpath leading to 2 other beautiful bays (Booby's & Constantine). Weather OK while we were there but there was nowhere to pitch that was sheltered from the prevailing westerlies - and, oh boy, was it windy! Can't praise the site highly enough. In fact, we stayed an extra night because we simply didn't want to leave. Although this site is close to home, we'll definitely be returning for another short break later in the year.

Just got back from a weekend break in one of the static caravans at Mother Ivey's Bay. What a great site! The location is fabulous, less than 5 minutes and we were on their private beach! Proper golden sand, ideal for sandcastles. The caravan we stayed in was spotless, all mod cons, nice and warm when it got nippy in the evening. The site is really well maintained, the touring pitches were on nice level lawns and I had a quick nosy at the shower / loo block (after staying on a less than salubrious site in Cornwall last year in a touring van) and they were spotless too. The staff all seemed really friendly and someone came to make sure everything was ok after we checked in. The site takes dogs, but no mess anywhere. The big field next to the play area was great for playing frisbee and felt safe letting my two little ones off up there to play unsupervised, which we can't do at home. I read the other reviews and some people reckon it's expensive, but I say you get what you pay for. Fully deserves it's five stars.

What a great site.
Good facilities for children with the family shower rooms and playground.
Beautifully landscaped site, good shop and clean facilities. Good pitch sizes and didn't feel too cramped.
The beach is great and ideal to be able to walk to the beach when you have small children.
Lots of places to visit in the local area so a good base.
It was windy when we were there so make sure you are well pegged down.

I have to disagree with the majority of reviews on here, this site is wonderful! My parents have been going for 12 years and we have been twice, our most recent visit being in May half term. Weather not great for half of it, very, very windy but very helpful staff who even had pegged down our ropes whilst we were out! The weather tends to be the extreme of the forecast. If its sunny its very hot, if windy - very, very windy!
The park is beautiful, the gardens glorious and very well tendered. The toilets very clean as are the showers. The shop is a bit pricey but who is going to do their full shop there with St Merryn close by and Tescos in Padstow. Reception staff very friendly, they can get a bit 'jobs-worth' about the pitches, but it all adds to the fantastic way it is run and what makes the site so good. You won't want to leave the beach, brilliant for the kids, not crowded even in half term. Pitches a good size, taps close by, as are hook ups. I can't say anything bad about this site. Feels very safe with 3 small children. Great wooden playgroud with both small and older childrens things to climb on. What could be better than a site with 2 sea views! The only thing I would say is that I wouldn't go in August as it would be heaving. May half term was brilliant, not that busy at all. We shall be returning as many years on the run as we can. In my opinion, you get what you pay for on the whole with campsites and this campsite justifies the price - beautiful.

We have just returned from a lovely week at this site,it was our second visit here, we hadnt booked and just went down on the off chance we could get a pitch, we were lucky as a lot of the schools had not yet finished for the holidays, so we were able to take our pick of the pitches in the meadow field. Had a wonderful sea view and although we were not basking in sunshine every day, we had no rain and were able to take advantage of the beautiful private beach. I have read the reviews on this site that the prices are quite high, I would disagree as you pay one price for the pitch regardless of how many people are in the tent, our tent is a 9 man tent, hence an excellent price if we had 9 people to fill it! Facilities are 5*, regularly cleaned on a morning and evening, lovely and quiet and the staff are only too happy to stop for a chat and provide you with any assistance you need. We will be back again next year weather permitting, best site we have visited in this area, take a peak for yourself, although be aware August is heaving!

We booked well in advance for 2 people, 5 nights on a pitch with electric hook up.
After reading some reviews I wasn't really sure what I'd be confronted with in reception, but they were as nice as could be and really helpful.
We were directed to our pitch which was walled (and covered in wonderful flowers) and had a view over the peninsula and it's beaches. The only thing it lacked was any form of shelter from a westerly wind. As we set up a guy from the park was helping a family below us to set their tent up and then when passing on his tractor very kindly stopped to offer us a hand.
The shop on the site has a very good range of everything. Some things are slightly more expensive than normal, but then there are some bargains (2 bottles of wine for £5!). The guy who runs it was also very friendly and couldn't do enough to help.
The toilets and showers are exceptionally clean, my only gripe being that the shower has no temperature control, is like a power washer and soaks the entire floor. There's plenty of hooks on the door to hang things from, and a carrier bag for the shoes sorted that problem.
The beach is stunning and very sheltered from the wind, and a reasonably short cliff top walk to Harlyn bay is very enjoyable. The main beach there is covered by the RNLI lifeguards so it's a bit safer if you have children.
It cost us £27 per night in mid season for a tent pitch with electric hook up, so it's not cheap. It is quiet though and has very good clean facilities with stunning views.
Well worth visiting from our experience!

Went to this site after word of mouth for 2 nights. We have spent alot of time around this area over the years and didn't really fancy it due to the amount of static caravans. However, after being told about it we thought we would give it a try. It wasn't busy at all and were told we could pitch only in specific place, so we chose a pitch and but then told we couldn't go there, this went on for a while and we eventually allowed to pitch but right next to someone in an almost empty field ! We did ask if we could go in the corner but they said no because it had electic hook up, but no one turned up at any of the 20 or so electic hook ups over the weekend while we were there - I was disappointed about this and basically found the staff - as said in previous reviews - to be 'jobs worth' !
Anyhow the site itself is very nice, well kept, the facilities were excellent, clean, modern and free. There is a sea view to both sides which was really nice.
The private beach was lovely fairly small and almost empty when we were there. However, no rock pools and it's shelves quite deep so not ideal for our young kids to play. During the day we went off to another beach but spent the evenings down there while to sun set.
Not sure if we will return as there are better and cheaper sites close by - in our opinion.
All in all a very nice, clean, looked after site with its very own private beach - just not one of our favourites !

I read the last 2 reviews and was quite shocked, yes it is one of the more expensive sites, but what a beautiful site. We stayed in September and our pitch was not scrubby grass. The staff were excellent, helpful, polite and pleasant. We did not move off the site, so I was dependant on the shop and I was pleasantly surprised at the prices, I always expect to pay more for groceries on holiday anyway. The shop has a short season and the owner is not running a charity. There were plenty of dogs there, along with our own, no one objected to dogs on the beach, we always clear up after our dog, but it is surprising how many people don't. Unfortunately there are not many dogs trained to clear up after themselves so it is down to the owners. We both loved this site, there are quite a few statics, but all well spaced and very modern. We would go again no problem, excellent facilities, clean, beautiful views all in all a EXCELLENT SITE. 1st Class

£26 a night for a patch of scrubby-looking grass overshadowed by statics? I think not. Having learnt the prices and driven round the site looking for a half-decent pitch we gave up in disgust and went to another place further along the road which had great sea views, a fabulous beach and cost less than half as much. And this was in mid season - I gather the cost rise to over £30 a night in summer. This is completely uncompetitive and unjustified in my opinion. For example, later in the holiday we stayed at Wooda Farm Park which cost £14 for a pitch with its own water, hookup and waste disposal, in spacious surroundings and with some of the most thoughtfully-developed and well-maintained facilities we have ever come across. If they can do it, so can you Mother Ivey!

This site is expensive so we were expecting a nice holiday. We ended up leaving two days early! The shop was overpriced so go elsewhere whenever possible. The showers were free but they took ages to warm up and you got literally 10 seconds per push (really annoying when you're washing your hair!). The beach is beautiful but small and people don't seem to appreciate dogs being on there. In high season there is no other place to walk your dogs though. My biggest gripe were the staff, they were unhelpful and even intimidating on occasion. They closed the loos when cleaning, but would refuse to open another block so we'd have to wait up to half an hour. We brought dogs with us - we were accused of not cleaning up after them and the staff demanded to know which pitches we belonged to - after the third confrontation we just packed up and left. If you are extremely quiet and don't have dogs or kids then you'll probably have a nice holiday - for the majority of the population however, steer clear!
