 Generally this was a good campsite. The pitches are mostly flat and the ground well kept. They do tend to pack in the tents. One family appeared to get boxed into a corner, and even though there was a small hedge between tents, the actual distance was just a few metres and hence we could hear people's conversations clearly. Things would be perfect if the campsite enforced a larger gap between pitches.

The shower and toilet blocks needed to be much cleaner, and need maintenance in parts. One toilet cistern cover was smashed at both ends creating razor sharp edges for young fingers to get cut. One sit down toilet was not attached well to the floor and wobbled when sat on. Insect debris lay on wash surfaces for the whole two weeks and was never cleaner away. Floors in showers were mostly muddy. However the water was always hot and free. There was rarely queues for showers. But often for the mens toilets.

The staff and shop were useful, especially the fresh morning bread.

The wifi is extremely limited to the shop area. The wifi logo on the site web site gave me the impression the site was wifi enabled. It is not, only the shop.

I was also told on booking that we could pack up anytime on the last day and leave at our leisure. This is not the case if they have another tent arriving that day. They won't confirm until the day you are due to leave.

We did enjoy the island and the campsite is on our top 10 list and could so easily be very good if the owners would address the points I made above.

We booked our ferries independently of the campsite by phone with condor. This gave me piece of mind that condor understood our needs as we were towing. Condor were excellent. We went from Poole on the fast cat, then took the sleeper on return to Portsmouth. This worked very well.

 We visited the site for 10 days in August. The site is in a good location and access for Motorhomes and Caravans is via a farm track at the rear of the site.

I will start with the negatives:

The far field where Motorhomes and Caravans are situated is very exposed. During our stay we had a couple of days of bad weather with high winds damaging the wind break and awning.

The toilets and showers do need some updating, are poorly maintained and not cleaned frequently enough when the site is full. The children's games room is also in need of some TLC and updating.

Wifi can only be accessed by standing outside of the shop and no where else on the site which is a little misleading when you see the wifi symbol alongside the general information about the site.

The site benefits from being one of only two sites on Jersey unfortunately it seems the lack of competition has led to complacency.

However, there are some positives:

The grassed areas are well maintained.

The staff are all polite and very helpful.

The staff booked our crossing with Condor ferries and it worked out cheaper than booking direct.

The location provides some great views.

The bus stops right outside the site for easy access to St Helier.

With some TLC and some investment in the facilities this site could be outstanding.

Date of Visit: July 2012 Unit:  Touring Caravan
Reviewer: Spederton 5 reviews from this member

 Spent 10 days at Rozel during July 2012.

Travelled to St Hellier via Condor Ferries from Portsmouth (ferry is booked through the campsite), arrived early evening and were greeted at the port by a member of campsite staff who took us in convoy with another unit from the port to the campsite.

Entry to the site with a touring caravan is through a rear field entrance, as opposed to the main entrance as the turns are too tight - although a lot of Jersey is like this. Expect to cross the path of another caravan en route to/from site (we did both times) as the only caravan movements on the road are when the ferries dock in the evening, and again it can be a tight squeeze in many places.

There are three main fields, sub-divided by hedges. All are reasonably flat, rear field has a gentle slope, but views across to France. All fields and pitches are complete grass, and kept in good order. Dogs welcome. We were able to orientate our unit as we wished on our pitch to take advantage of the sun, although weather was not much better then in UK - rain was starting to take its toll on the grass by time we left - wellies may be needed if the rain continues this summer.

Two toilet blocks - in mens: four showers, eight sinks, three loos (and assume likewise in ladies). Water was always hot (no push buttons!) and kept clean.

TV reception was OK, using only the fitted caravan aerial we got the main channels 1-5 and some of the other Freeview channels, but not all.

Reception/shop only open 8-10am and then not until evening (as ferries arrive depart 6-9pm-ish). You can pre-order your newspapers, baguettes etc. To ensure you won't be left without next day.

Other facilities (but not used) outdoor pool, with separate children's pool, of good length and depth; crazy golf, laundrette, TV room, lounge room, games room, children's play area, washing up area for the campers.

Nearest take-away is in Gorey (couple of miles) - Entwistle's fish and chips (nice but not the cheapest!). Go into Gorey across the seafront and follow road back out, you'll soon come to a sign directing to village shops on a right hand junction, Entwistle's is last on the left.

Nearest main supermarket (there are no Tesco's, Asda, Sainsbury's or Morrisons on the entire island) is Co-op Locale in St Martin's, larger Co-op in St. Peter.

Fuel was generally 5-10p per litre cheaper than UK, and even more cheap with Co-op offering 12p off per litre for spending just £30 (Co-op also run a fair few of the fuel stations 'Co-op En Route'). Most other purchases seemed generally the same or more expensive than mainland UK.

Durrel Wildlife Park (former zoo) and Jersey War Tunnels are a must (save the tunnels for a wet day - completely dry and underground, but wear trousers and sleeves, it's cold). You can walk to Rozel bay/harbour. Bicycles seemed vary popular on the island. We managed to get around the whole island, with plenty to see and do.

Overall very nice site, pleasant and helpful owners, and would happily return. Maybe a little pricey, especially when you have to add the ferry costs on top - but that's not the fault of the campsite.

(Did visit Beuvelande Campsite, only drove around, didn't get out, but on the surface Rozel looked better so glad with our choice).

JERSEY TIPS

- You DON'T need your passport - unless doing a day trip to France;

- You DO need your EHIC;

- You DO need Travel Insurance;

- You DON'T need to exchange your currency - the 'UK' Pound and 'Jersey' Pound are like for like, so spend your UK currency, but you will get change in Jersey Pounds (you can change back at a UK Post Office, again like for like);

- You DO need to put your 'Caravan Permit' (supplied by campsite with booking confirmation) in the front of your caravan BEFORE you board the ferry in UK, you won't get chance the other side;

- You DO need a 'GB' sticker on your car, if you don't have the incorporated blue GB section on the left of your number plate;

- You DON'T need to buy a Jersey road map - pick up a free Tourist map, we did, and served us fine - the island is small so the whole road network fits on one page including all minor roads;

- Most driving regulations are the same as mainland, although: 'national speed limit' is only 40mph - that is the maximum speed anywhere on the island, lots of roads are only 15mph; when waiting at lights they go straight from red to green, amber only applies in the reverse; don't park on a single yellow line - equivalent of a UK double yellow.

- Parking - there are no 'pay and display' types - all parking is clearly marked as free or chargeable, if it's chargeable you need to display a scratch card paycard on your dash - you can buy these from reception it's 71p a unit (same price no matter where you buy). Purchase some of these on your first day; don't leave it until you need to park somewhere as the cards are not sold at the car parks. We only used two cards in the whole trip, those we didn't use we sold back to reception for the same 71p.

 Just back from Rozel Campsite this is the second time we have visited this site and I have to say it was as lovely as last year. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful.

We stayed in the top field and had fantastic views of France. The shower block is a bit dated but it is clean with plenty of hot water. There is a super play area for kids.

Jersey is a fantastic place to visit with plenty to see and do there are also some nice walks.

This is one of the best campsites we have been on we hope to return again.

 We stayed on this site for 7nights.

It was very nice, nicely laid out, lots of room between units.

Good shower rooms very nicely kept.

A excellent laundry room with ironing board and iron.

A good play area for the children. A games room, tv room. Wi fi in the games room.

All in all very very nice. Would we go back, most definitely.

Within easy walking distance to beaches. A bus stop outside the camp site with buses every hour.

 We spent 10 nights at this site and loved every minute of it. The site has been very well thought out and the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

We were in one of the hedged bays so it was nice and sheltered and helped disguise the fact that this is a pretty big site. The top field is more open but has fabulous views of France. No matter where you are on the site though the pitches are pretty level. If you don't want to cram everything in the car they also have several fully equipped cabanon tents for hire (looked to be about 6-berth). These are dotted around the site so the holiday camp feel is avoided!

The shower blocks are very good. They're a bit old but work perfectly and the staff do a really good job of keeping them clean. There are also two family shower rooms but these were very popular so you might have to queue at busy times. The block at the top of the site is busier as it's nearer most of the pitches so the one at the bottom is slightly nicer and quieter. There's a very well equipped laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers (all coin operated) plus 2 irons that are free to use. A very nice touch in here though is the free to use hair dryers in front of a room-length mirror. There are also free electric points here and these were well used by the teenagers with their hair straighteners!

Drinking water points are dotted around the site so you never have to walk far and there are 8 washing up sinks with free hot water.

There's plenty for kids to do - a good sized playground at the edge of a big playing field, a games room with air hockey, pool and table tennis, a free crazy golf course, a swimming pool and paddling pool and a TV room (although most kids seemed too busy for TV!).

There is a shop on site which opens for a couple of hours each morning and evening. It sells the basic supplies but is by no means an alternative to a trip to a co-op, the nearest of which is 1. 9 miles away on the A6. They get fresh baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat in every morning (so expect to put some weight on!). Campingaz refills are available and the prices are the same as the RRP in England. They also sell Cadac cartridges and the all important parking scratch cards (although you should buy these on the ferry on the way over if you're planning a stop in St Helier before you go to the site)

The site is very much geared up for families so don't expect peace and quiet during daylight hours but everyone was very well behaved when we were there and by 10pm each night all we could hear was the sound of the toads.

I could write a book on where to visit on Jersey as, despite being a small island (you're never more than 10 miles away from anywhere!) it's absolutely packed with things to see and do. In our opinion the best beaches are Plemont Bay, Greve de Lecq and St Brelades and a visit to Mont Orgueil castle is an absolute must!

All in all, a fabulous place to camp and we can't wait to return!

 This is our second visit to Rozel, we reviewed it last year, this time we spent a bit longer ( two weeks). The two toilet blocks are still both regularly cleaned.

Again the staff are very helpful and friendly. This time we tried the site takeaway and the food was well cooked and reasonably priced,

the site is well kept and well drained. The kids seemed to appreciate the wifi connection.

The pool was again cold but this didn't seem to put many people off as it was well used.

The only thing to add is this is a perfect site in a perfect location on a perfect island, we are already considering booking next year which will be the third in a row, I think this speaks for itself.

 Just back from Jersey and spent a week at Rozel as well as Beauveland campsites. Rozel was very good. Family run and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We liked the general atmosphere of the site.

We were in the part of the site that is in a small valley and feels separated from the larger part of the site. It felt nice and quiet and peaceful, and our area was a little sheltered from the wind etc. The pool was lovely and there is a paddling pool, a big plus for small children.

The shower block never felt crowded even though the camp was virtually full, and there was always lashings of hot water. It was clean as was the dish washing area.

The play area is a bit old and unadventurous but it did not matter to us ( or our 5 and 8 yr olds). The shop sells the basic necessities eg croissants in the morning. It is quiet and we'd definitely go back there.

The owners allowed us to leave our car and trailer for a few days while we visited Sark, for a nominal cost, and they kept the trailer in a barn.

They were very helpful organising a taxi to take us to the harbour. All in all a pleasant experience and very recommended.

 This site is a little jem, the owners are wonderful and everything is spotlessly clean, will definitely be returning. Next time though we will be booking one of their tents, takes all the worry out of having to pitch your own tent if the ferry is a late afternoon one like ours, their tents are top quality and have everything you need for a great stay.

The island has many attractions and all are within easy reach, must try out the kite buggying and kayaking next visit.

 Fantastic site, just spent a week here with great weather. The facilities are extremely well kept and staff are always visible on site and friendly. The toilets/showers are spotless and free, the pool is very well maintained and welcome in hot weather.

The shop has all the basics, you can also order fantastic fresh bread and croissants daily - which I would recommend. There is a farm across the lane which sells fresh veg and potatoes by the side of the road.

For kids there's a playground which looks newish, crazy golf, a tv and games room.

Some pitches have sea views, there is plenty of room, several different areas etc. We didn't experience any noise at all, would definitely go back.

The only downside is that the nearest pub/ restaurants are a good walk, too far for some. But don't let this put you off, we checked out the other 2 sites on the island and this is the most attractive.

Top tip is to let the site book your ferry, it works out cheaper and is easy!
