This is our 2nd stay at the Brookhouse-first one in a caravan and this time in a tent. Great place to stay-central for visiting wookey, weston, glastonbury and clarkes shopping village. Clean facilities, excellent food, amazing staff.
Childrens play area ideal-felt quite safe letting the kids play whilst we set up camp as its fully enclosed so they cant go anywhere!
Great for families or groups wanting a civilised get together! Did not find the site hampered from road noise at all-in fact have always felt it to be quite peaceful! Already planning for next year!

Stayed for 3 nights at the start of august. We had planned to stay for 2 but was so pleased with the site and facilities we stayed for an extra night. The owners were very friendly, food and beer were excellent.
Toilet/shower facilities a bit basic and in need of modernisation but didn't affect our stay. Nice location, easy to get to other parts of Somerset.
Would definitely visit again and would recommend to others.

Stayed here for 4 nights with family and friends in August and were lucky enough to have fantastic weather. There are 2 small fields at the rear of a pub, both have electric hook ups and there is a small children's play area.
We had 2 tents between us and there was only one other tent in the field at the time so we had adequate space, but I think that if the site had been full, we would have struggled to fit in the larger tent.
The people who run the pub were really lovely, the pub had a nice atmosphere and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The town isn't too far away either. What lets this site down are the facilities.
There are only 3 toilets and 2 showers. One shower/toilet in the mens block and one shower/toilet in the womens, with a separate toilet at the end of the block. There are second showers in each unit but these weren't connected up for use. As the site was quiet this wasn't a problem but with 9 of us trying to get washed and ready to go out in the mornings, we did have to wait around quite a bit.
Also there were no dish washing facilities which would have come in handy. Overall I would recommend this site to other campers but would hope that next time we visit, the facilities will have been improved/updated.

Great site for a quick stopover, not great for a longer holiday, compact and between 2 roads, not too noisy though.
We arrived late and left early for a day at Longleat. The pub was closed on arrival, but our name was on a notice board directing us to our pitch.
Luckily we had cash to leave in the post box, otherwise it would have been a pain to leave payment as no one there to pay by card.
No problems luckily, as there was no one around to help! Showers and toilets fine, didn't mind paying £20, but there are better sites for that price.

Another brilliant stay at The Brook House. When we booked to stay at the site, the owner Wayne informed us there was a 50Th birthday party being held in the pub on the Saturday night, with some of the party goers staying on the site so it could be noisy, no problem, but nice of Wayne to make us aware.
As the pub doesn't stop open late late the party started around 7pm & finished around 12, we were made to feel very welcome by Wayne, Lynn and the rest of the staff even though they had their hands full with the party.
The site was still as clean and tidy as last year with some improvements being made on the site since last year to. The party goers were a great group who we got to meet on the Sunday, normal pub closing on Sunday is 6pm but due to the amount of campers on site Wayne & Lynn said they would keep the pub open till 9, but as the birthday girl was still in partying mood it ended up being 11pm. We never heard 1 complaint from anyone on the site.
All in all a good site for visiting places or just chilling due to its locality. Hopefully back again next year or even for New Year. Would recommend to all campers.

This was our 5th visit to Brook House this year.
We chose it for my 50th Birthday Party - it was amazing!
We took over one of the fields with guests who camped overnight, they all had a brilliant time and couldn't get over how friendly Wayne, Lynn, Becky and Gary, who run the pub were. So good was it in fact that a lot of them want to come again! This includes some who bought a tent specifically for the Saturday night and have never camped before.
This really is a brilliant site to hold a party. The disco was in the skittle alley, next to this through a wide opening is a function room where guests can eat and chat. There is access to the outside decking area through here where there was a gazebo, seating and a fairy light lit arbor. Everyone commented on the fantastic buffet (they really did do an amazing job with food).
On the Thursday my 3 year old grandson and his mum came to stay overnight. He loved 'his garden' (the field). It was safe for him to play in and he loved running around. He also loved the playground, especially the 3 different sliders. We ate in the pub that evening and the food as always was superb. My grandson ate the most I have ever seen him eat!
On the Friday more guests began arriving and we just went for drinks in the pub on the evening
On Saturday lots more people arrived and it was the day of the party
On the Sunday a lot of the guests had to leave but really didn't want to (this was when it was decided we would all have to come back). On the Sunday afternoon, we had a delicious Sunday Roast which comprised of a very generous helping of meat, loads of vegetables, roast potatoes and the biggest yorkshire pudding. The pub usually shuts at 6. 00pm but they stayed open especially for us and even got the karaoke machine out - which was brilliant fun.
On Monday the 6 of us who were left ate in the pub. Their steak and ale pie is the best I've ever had.
This is an absolute gem of a site and we've already booked New Year's Eve there but I know we'll be back before then.

While I would agree that the pub staff are very nice, the food serviceable, and the pitches and bathrooms clean and well-ordered, I have to say that the night we spent here was one of the noisiest we've had - I was really surprised that the other reviews haven't mentioned it.
The site is triangulated by an A-road, a major road and a minor road - the two larger often being used by large lorries.
The children's playground also didn't seem very well looked-after - although again, the layout was really nice.
In all, I wouldn't use this campsite again as a single family with children looking for a quick weekend break. It seems like the type of place that would be great for a large group camping trip where you're going to be up at the pub til late and then easily asleep as a result through the noise of the traffic!

This was mine & my partners 1st ever camping experience & at 'The Brooke House Inn' they made it a lovely one.
The owners & staff are very friendly. The site is kept clean at all times & we saw the owners several times throughout our 4 night stay. We even had a friendly wake up call after an afternoon nap ;)
We were in the lower field where caravans were mostly sited & I've said when we go back we would like the pitch we were allocated again. You are near the main road, but we didn't find the traffic that much of a problem ourselves.
We enjoyed ourselves at the quiz night owners put on (with a prize for 1st & 2nd place & even for last place they gave a prize to the children of the group) it was a fun evening for all. We missed the music night as went back to the tent & fell asleep (all the fresh air) which what we heard was a very good night.
The food we had was lovely, my partner had the Gammon & egg which was lovely, thick & came with chips, mushrooms onion rings & a tomato. He was full on this & satisfied. The Sunday roast we had was perfect no meat waste, as all lean with lots of veg & roasters. In all we could not doubt the food at all & the prices are reasonable.
The pub itself is warm & welcoming as so the staff. It has a large function room/skittle ally with bar for any music nights they have or function they may hold.
The toilets & showers are kept clean at all times. As someone else said take a toilet roll when you go to the loo. As even though it's restocked every day, it seems to go down quickly. Take a wash up bowl as there's plenty of hot water but no wash up area as such, but not a problem.
We had rain & winds the 2nd night we were there, the grass was wet but it has good drainage as there was no soggy patches we could see or feel when going back & forth to showers/toilet. The high hedges & trees took most of the wind we had the night it rained. Even though the site is situated on a triangle, it felt warm & safe once inside your tent. We never worried to much our tent would be blown away.
Castle Cary is a 5 min drive away or you could walk there on a nice day. The train station is 5 mins walk up the road also, so you can go off for the day.
We stayed on site most times as it was our 1st camping trip & just wanted to relax but next time we will go visit some of the area more & even get the train to Weymouth as we have already booked Aug Bank Holiday w/end before we left. We are going back for short w/end stays also.
Overall the site, owners, staff & surrounding area was a lovely relaxing experience. Can't wait to go back. :)

We arrived home earlier today after a seven night stay at Brook House. Reflecting on our holiday, we enjoyed it over all but we won't be going back to the area or the actual site for a holiday. There are five of us and we have an Outwell Nevada 5 with porch, plus a Vaude 2 man. With our eldest son joining us on the Sunday evening onwards, the site owners were happy for us to put up and pay for his tent (the Vaude) a little later on in our stay.
The site is well positioned for all the local and regional attractions but we found that to reach most of these involved a reasonable car journey. With three kids, that wasn't always funny and it cost more. We visited Wells, Haynes Motor Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Cheddar Gorge, East Somerset Railway, West Somerset Railway and we also gandered around Castle Cary which was very pleasant indeed.
Pitches are, as others have said, large but when we arrived there was a car 'attached' to each of several large tents pitched at the end of the lower field. This made the site quite cramped and we wondered why cars could not be parked in the fairly large car park instead. With a mix up on our arrival, our son's pitch had been taken so he ended up opposite us rather than next to us. Apparently another unit didn't notice the reservations board at the entrance gate. This lists that day's arrivals and tells them which number pitch(es) they have.
Right, to the site facilities.
It is very well drained. We had torrential rain and very high winds through most of the stay but saw no standing water. We got our (rock) pegs in and out easily. Pitches are clearly numbered but the sheer number of vehicles on site made it feel cramped. The grass is kept short with no nasty prickles for little feet.
The toilet and shower block is adequate. Toilet paper is very thin and soon runs out so do take some spare rolls. I ended up leaving a roll in there. Cold water taps only in the compartment where the basins and shower are. Hand soap had been horridly watered down in the women's. There are several mirrors if looking good matters to you while camping. The men's shower has a curtain, the women's has a proper door. Both showers had plenty of hot water but the wooden drainers in both weren't pleasant. The toilet at one end has a hot water tap. Yes, we took a washing up bowl.
The play area is in very poor condition and we discouraged our children from using it, which was a shame as it must have been great when properly maintained. There is no fence between it and the driveway and some vehicles tend to drive past rather too fast when going into the car park or onto the site.
Throughout our stay we saw the owner on site twice. Perhaps he/she visited more frequently but we didn't see them anyway. All units adjacent to one another were most definitely less than 4 metres apart.
The environment is not great. The whole pub site is on a triangular island with roads on all sides, so the noise level is often quite high. Being close to industrial and agricultural centres, lorries are going up and down the main road from dawn. The road is popular with speeding cars - turning right onto the main road is rather hairy so drivers of longer or slower vehicles should be very cautious.
The campsite is surrounded by high hedgerows and, for those nearer the toilet block, it is quite sheltered. For us and the caravan lower down, the Thursday night was a little scary with the wind howling around. The couple next to us seemed to have lost their windbreak - it snapped. We ourselves had no choice but to take down the porch before we went to bed and, having effectively re pitched the tent, we saved it from severe damage. Of course, the site owners don't control the weather but if it's looking windy during your upcoming stay, why not request a pitch in the upper half?
The actual pub is average. We ate there on the Thursday night and I only wish I'd ordered the same as my husband. He had a lovely pie which looked homemade and was tasty. We had started with deep fried white bait and breaded mushrooms. Why no salad garnish with the mushrooms? It was so plain without that. The whitebait sat on a mound of fresh salad!
For a main course, I had what sounded very nice: a leek, potato and cheese bake. When it arrived, it looked unfinished with no crust on top. It was bland in appearance and flavour - the worst meal of my holiday. The much feted home-cut chips had been fried in old oil at too low a temperature: they were soggy. The pub displays a 5/5 Council hygiene award but standards had obviously slipped. The dinner tables were still dirty from the previous service. The whole interior is dated and somewhat awkward. At least the barman washed his hands after his cigarette break outside!
Sorry, Brook House, we won't be back but thanks all the same for an enjoyable stay.

We stayed here over May Bank holiday weekend.
A really nice little campsite. Very easy to find. Not far from the A303.
The owners were very welcoming and the food and beer in the pub was very good and reasonably priced. (Children are welcome in the pub. Children's menu also provided).
The pitches are quite large, all with power and the site is on two fields behind the pub with shelter from trees and hedges. The road does have some traffic. But it`s not too bad. Much quieter than some larger and commercial sites we`ve been too.
Despite the recent heavy rain the ground was fine. Not wet at all. And easy to pitch on.
The site is within easy reach of some attractions. We went to Longleat which is only 20mins away.
Good local shops in Castle Cary. Plenty of places to eat there if you wish. Plus banks and cashpoints.
The toilets and showers are clean although a bit basic. Some work is being done to improve these by the looks of it. There is no washing up area so take your own bowl etc (We did not find this a problem!)
There is a children's play area. And a very friendly Ginger cat who came to say hello !
All in all a nice site. We will certainly stay there again.
Only regret is we couldn't stay longer !
