Choose this site at last minute, as due to heavy floods our original site was knee deep in water. Phoned the night before arriving and assured the ground was fine. Thankfully it was. A very small site, the toilet/showers I agree with other reviews. But as there was only two other tents and rest caravans, there was not a problem. We also realised there was no dishwashing facilties, so we either boiled water and washed near the tent or used the toilet sinks late at night. The sinks were very small, so the floor did get wet, but there was a mop n bucket there, so I cleared up after myself. There was baskets for recycling rubbish, but one small dustbin already overflowing, so a problem when busy. The play area was not really impressive, my kids preferred to chase a ball around or eachother. Fine for a weekend or nightly visit. A beautiful area, went to Longleat Safari Park which was brilliant, especially monkeys climbing on our car. Can recommend the Indian Takeaway in Castle Carey, also the fish and chips shop. The roads surrounding are noisy, but we live in a town, so not a problem to us. Found the pub friendly and reasonable, there was no rush for us to pay, seem very relaxed. Would stay again if visiting Longleat.

Stayed over bank holiday, things seem to have improved with the new owners, the pub was very friendly, quite full and has started opening sunday eve / monday, this meant we didn't have to go far to find food in the rain! Food is excellent, very filling, be careful if you want a main and pudding! Found that it was child friendly too. For those that didn't rate it before, I would recommend giving it another try as it is a good base for many local sights and found that the staff were helpful and friendly. We will definitely be going back.

Arrived at Brook house Saturday afternoon to find the pub locked and no-one around. Twenty minutes later someone finally came out and referred to us as 'the tent' and then disappeared. We discovered the toilet block was locked and the pub was still closed. Around 6pm the pub opened and the barmaid told us the toilets had been drained for winter, we were to use the pub toilets until they closed at 11pm and the landlord would open the door for us to have access to the toilet at 8.30am, at 8.45 with no answer at the doors we were forced to go into the village to find public toilets. I'm sure this may be a nice place to camp in the summer, but considering they claim to be open all year they don't do a very good job.

Brook House is a lovely pub about a mile from the village of Castle Cary. Although I would not advise trying to walk to the village as the main road is very busy and has no path. The campsite is at the back of the pub with 24 hookup pitches, the ground is level and seemed well drained (although August we had a few heavy downpours) The toilets were housed in a porta cabin with toilets (2) and a shower in the ladies and the same in the gents, although these would not cope if the site was full. There was some noise, as the site is situated in the centre of three roads. The pub offers good meals from a limited menu, it also has a skittle alley and function room. 100 yards from the site is a garage selling gas and a caravan hire facility. A nice campsite and a good base to discover Somerset.

Lovely small clean site. Pub very nice & friendly staff.Limited pub menu but good quality & value. Some road noise but did not affect our sleep. Toilet/shower facilities could be better, only 2 toilets & 1 shower in men/women and not much room. Plenty of attractions nearby.

Arrived on a somewhat cold Friday evening in March and cannot say the welcome did anything to warm us up. Paid money in the pub and when directed where to camp were told to camp on the campsite road, as there is no hard standing, which we decided would not have been very private, so managed to persuade the owner to allow us to camp in the field which he reluctantly did whilst complaining that we might tear up the grass. Set up camp and had a drink after which point we realised that the toilet block was locked and that the pub had closed early and therefore, had no choice but to use the field. Left early the next morning somewhat dissatisfied and feeling that if the campsite was not set up to take visitors then they should not have taken our money.

Lovely small park ideally situated for Bath & West Show ground. Meals in pub good, limited choice for children but all good quality & value. Some noise from adjoining Road particularly during the day. Small toilet block which would be overstretched if site was in full use.

11.11.03 Travelling around in November we wanted to stay somewhere we could get something to eat e.g. a village or pub CL. This was really nice C & CC Certificated Location. Nice pub and small site clean and tidy. Very near the lovely village/small town of Castle Cary - really picturesque and good location for walking break in the summer. The owners, Paul and Carmen were really friendly and deserve the success they have obviously had with this venture. This site does get busy apparently, so you may need to book on a busy weekend.
