Stayed at this site for a week. The toilet block is in need of updating but the shower is powerful and hot. There are plans in hand to sort out the block before next summer.
We were given a lovely welcome on arrival and when the plot allocated to us was not suitable for our tent they happily moved us.Even though in rained every day we were there, ground stayed firm and well drained.
The pub food was good and fairly priced, can recommend their surf and turf. Quiz night was a laugh and the atmosphere in the pub was always welcoming.
Play area was available for children. The village shops were just a short drive away.We found it very central to reach all the tourist spots Longleat, Chedder gorge, Wooky Hole and Bath etc. Talking of cheese the barmaid Amy's dad is a cheese maker and his cheese is as good if not better than Chedder's and a fraction of the price e.G. Garlic and herb from chedder £19-99 kilo Amy's dads £8- 98 kilo. Thanks All

Just spent our second night here and it is a very pleasant place to stay set in the countryside with easy access to the local shops with a co-op only 1 mile down the road.

The owners are very friendly and helpful and pitching up is easy as if no-one about just pitch up and sort it out later.

The site is along a main A road and it has a lot of traffic we are right next to it in pitch 18 the other pitches close to it are 17 and 16 but we were still able to get a good nights sleep.

It is very close and an ideal place to stay for local attractions like Wookey Hole, Chedder Caves and Longleat. The toilet block could be better but it is okay and there are 2 showers one for male and for female the site has a small play area for the children but its close to the road so they need to be supervised Overall a very nice place and a pleasant site.

Nice site, very clean, food so good you could have done it yourself. Very friendly. Grass kept short, good even surface, night lights around the site. Hosts treat you like a good friend. Very welcoming site.
Toilet / shower block was always clean and every toilet had soft paper whenever I visited.

just spent four days on site with a touring van while attending the BMF show at West Of England showground, the site is beautifully maintained and for those that want it very peaceful, showers and toilets clean and hot, the meals served in the Pub were beautiful and service efficient and friendly. I found the site ideal for visiting the surrounding area and the show ground.
The owners Wayne & Lynn, family and staff very friendly and helpful, ( even though I dug up Waynes grass with my motor mover sorry ) I will be returning as soon as possible. I have noted that on some reviews people complain about the size of toilet block etc ? if you want all singing and dancing facilities then by all means go and pay at least twice the site fees and put up with the noise and crowds and I will keep this lovely peaceful site to myself lol

Have recently stayed at this site again and have been impressed with the improvements.

Since our first stay, the toilet block has been re-painted & a sink for washing up has been installed. Talking with the owners, they plan to get a shelter built for it later this year to protect campers from the elements whilst washing up!

The menus have been updated again and the food was, as always, great.

We stayed at this site over the late May bank holiday weekend. The site was well-organised (notice board at the entrance with site details and information) and owners were friendly.

The pub nearby has reasonably priced food and the children enjoyed the pub's play area.

The ablution facilities seemed small (only 2 showers and 2 toilets for each sex) but we never had to queue. The loo rolls were not replaced for over 12 hours on our last night there, but otherwise clean and well-kept.

The closest large supermarkets are about 10-15min drive away.

Some of our neighbours were a bit noisy until about 11pm.

Otherwise lovely area and good site and reasonably priced.

We liked the location of this site. We liked the pitches & the freedom on this site. However, the toilet / shower block is in dire need of some TLC. Dirty, squalid showers with flooded floors, intermittent hot water, temperamental electricity supply, no hand soap or toilet roll.

They have built a washing up sink outside the toilets but this is in the open so affected by weather!

The children enjoyed the play area although some of the equipment is in need of modernisation.

This site was extremely close to the Royal Bath & West showground & a short drive from Cheddar, Street, Glastonbury & Longleat.

A nice site ruined by very poor toilet/shower facilities.

Castle Cary has an excellent Chinesese/ Fish Bar & convenience store. Sainsburys & Asda are located in nearby Frome.

Stayed here for it's convenience to the Bristol & West Showground at Shepton Mallett for the Bristol Classic Car Show, and what an excellent place it is!

The site is quite compact but there's sufficient space between the 22 level pitches. The toilets are adequate but the showers overflowed across the floor and into the wc's which wasn't ideal. There was nice hot water at the wash basins but sadly it was much cooler in the showers.

The site is immediately behind the pub where there's a good range of food although we didn't eat there. The real ale, Butcombe Bitter, was in such good order that I had to try an extra one to be sure!

The station is about ½ mile away and a path from here leads up a stiff climb to the village. Yes trains can be heard in the distance but not as much as the road outside. That said neither really bothered us, however the Chiffchaff chirping away above our van from first light was starting to get tedious! This was compensated by a long staying Buzzard opposite the garage and two Little Egrets that flew overhead.

All in all a great site and one we would certainly use again.

Have just returned from staying at this delightful campsite for the Easter weekend.

We were a group of 7 adults in 4 tents.

There are 22 pitches each with electric available

The site was almost full to capacity, and although the pitches were by no means huge we all had enough room, and the owners had, as promised, saved our group the corner so we could all camp together.

The site is immaculate and flat, nicely cut grass, easy to peg into and was not at all muddy. The facilities are in a porta cabin 2 loos, and a shower for each sex, and are as immaculately clean as the campsite. (though I think its fair to note the shower (free) never seemed to get properly hot, just luke warm, and the loo roll did run out briefly, but was replaced within hours) These was one of the cleanest toilet blocks I have encountered yet. SPIDER FREE!

At no point did I have to queue for a loo!

There are no washing up facilities. There are 2 water taps and rubbish bins as well as boxes to collect recycling

We spoke to the owner a few times and he was exceptionally nice and friendly, and it was clear from speaking to him that he took great pride in running his campsite.

The site is at the back of the pub. The pub had an extensive menu (you can preview on the website) and was reasonably priced. We ordered 7 main courses and 5 of them were great. I had lasagne which was a little oily, but obviously home made and delicious 2 of the meals (mixed grills) however wern't as great. The meat had a distinctively unpleasant odour as if the meat may have been a bit old.

All 7 puddings were delicious! We sampled almost all of them from the menu and highly recommend them all!

Although the site seems to be surrounded by roads, they seem to be very small country roads, most with very little traffic and despite being right next to the roads were not bothered by any road noise at all.

Being close to Castle Cary Railway station, it was also possible at times to here trains, but the occasional noise was not intrusive and caused no problems.

The are a few simple rules on the site, given to us upon arrival. All are fair and how one would hope campers would behave regardless. Quiet between 11pm and 7am, well behaved dogs ALLOWED on leads, Ball games that don't intrude on other campers also ALLOWED!

Essentially this is an immaculate clean and well cared for site, owned by and extremely friendly and reasonable person, set in a beautiful location.

We were all made to feel very welcome and I would definitely return (but would remember to bring loo roll, and would try to avoid using the shower.)

The price £11 night for a tent for 2 adults is all inclusive with no extra charges for dogs / cars / visitors etc!

Concrete blocks are provided so you can have a BBQ without damaging the grass

I stayed for 4 nights at the end of April 2008. The site was very quiet, I was there on my own for 3 nights! So I had as much space as I needed! The site was very clean and tidy, the site was very level.

The toilet block, as mentioned in other reviews has only one shower & 2 WC's & 2 small basins but very clean & tidy. Plenty of hot water in the basins. There was no charge for the shower.

I met the lady who ran the site, she came over to see if everything was OK after I had pitched the tent & again on my last night. She offered that I could leave the tent up all day to dry off if necessary as the site was not busy & they don't have strict departure times, which I thought was very thoughtful.

The site is very convienient for the Bath & West Showground.
