This site has two toilet blocks, we were nearest the one where the tent field was, having children and campers meant those toilet blocks were a bit grubby, so we walked past reception to the toilet blocks there, they were great, the toilets were fully enclosed, meaning no gaps at the top or bottom of the cubicles. There is a Tesco at Seaton, about a 15-20 minutes drive away. Also went to Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary, and for drives through Monkton Wyld, Lyme Regis and the lovely village of Beer.

Stayed on an all weather tent pitch in Augst 2014. We opted for this over grass as the weather had been poor, and was forecast to be poor. The pitch was made of pea gravel and rubber on top of a hardcore base. With a thick tarpaulin style groundsheet under the tent we found this fine and our tents SIG was not dimpled or damaged after a week on it. We did find that where pegs had been pulled out in the past hardcore had come up with them, so I had to clear the pitch of these pieces before pitching.
The campsite is separated into lots of hedged zones, so felt cosy despite being large. We had a huge corner pitch with a grassed area next to the tent big enough for another tent as well as our car and trailer. We were able to use this as a private garden area to eat, cook etc. Fantastic. Our neighbours either side were vans but we're very friendly. Opposite was a large non hook up area which had tents along the far edge and was open in the middle. Again, lovely. There was a wood walk to the other side of the site, lit by red and white fairy lights which the kids loved. I think this was part of the dog walk too.
The toilets were excellent, and clean, as was the large covered washing up area.
Site shop was small but adequate. Food van visited several times during the week. Fish and chips some days, breakfasts on other days (the van stays over night some days). We enjoyed both.
The site was generally quiet despite being peak summer, our kids enjoyed the 2 playgrounds.
We had 1 day of rain so the weather was on the whole sunny in the end. The underlying ground must be chalk, our pitch when wet left white residue all over the tent base. In hindsight pitching on grass would have been easier to clean!
We would happily return.

Just returned from 5 nights at Charmouth C&CC site. The site had a lot of rain prior to our arrival and our grass pitch was already waterlogged. As there were no hard standings left (bank holiday) we persevered with the soggy grass pitch. No problem for the caravan, but the breathable awning carpet had muddy water coming up into it and the caravan steps slowly sank into the ground!
The pitch was large, and even with a caravan, awning and land rover next to each other we were nowhere near our neighbours. The Land Rover came in handy one night to pull out an unfortunate motor home that had become stuck in the mud opposite us.
We've been to this site before, and have always found it to be very well run, with good facilities. There is a fish and chip van that visits and also provides breakfasts at the weekend. The shop is well stocked and the prices good.
The local area is excellent with miles of beaches and costal walks. Lyme regis is close, and charmouth itself is around 3 miles away.
We would happily return to this site but on a hard standing next time!

We were looking forward to staying at this site having read some of the excellent reviews. Unfortunately we didn't find it lived up to expectations. We didn't find the staff particularly welcoming and whilst we realise it is the end of the season and there was just one week left before the site closed there was absolutely no atmosphere on site at all. At one point we were heading to the shop 15 minutes before the specified closing time and when we were a couple of metres away from the door they turned the sign to closed. The Staff would have seen us coming and so even if they were closing early they could have popped their heads round the door and explained this to us. Also, ensure you have everything you need with you when staying at the end of the season as the shop had only a few provisions left.
The lower toilet block was clean, warm and had plenty of hot water but I dread to think what it would be like in the height of summer with just two showers in this block. I also agree with a previous comment about the hairdryer being right next to the hand dryer. This could be very awkward at peak times.
The kids play area was fine for older kids but there wasn't much for the younger ones apart from one swing and a covered picnic table. Plenty of room for them to run about and play ball games.
On our second night the weather was particularly windy and wet with some very, very strong gusts which even had us worried at times. As we had no mobile signal, internet or TV it would have been a nice touch if the staff could have come round to make sure everyone was ok or perhaps popped round before dark to let everyone know we were in for some windy weather overnight (this was the night before the St Jude storm and we were worried the weather reports of the earlier week were wrong and it was going to hit a night early).
We love the area of Lyme Regis and would definitely return but sadly not to this site.

Disappointed that the C&CC's own book lists this as 'close to the village's beach' which to me means within walking distance when in fact it is 2. 5 miles away and also only 200 metres off the A35 which you can hear constantly. The site itself is very clean with pitches in groups of 10/12 with plenty of trees/bushes to make it feel less open. It is a large site with around 150 pitches plus a separate tent field.
If you look at the site plan it gives two shower/toilet blocks each serving about 75 pitches but one contains 5 showers, 5 toilets etc for each sex whereas the other block contains only 2 showers and 2 toilets for each sex meaning at peak times the smaller block is always full and it's quite a trek to the other block which was nearly always empty - bad planning.
There are speed signs of '5mph. Children playing' all over the site but the staff ignore them and dash around on 'golf buggy' at about 20mph including the mower which attains about the same speed kicking up clouds of dust when on the gravel tracks between pitch areas.
Lacks the friendliness/homeliness of normal C&CC sites as this is a franchised site more like a large commercial site.

The campsite is very nicely laid out, in terraces, with hedges making attractive small areas for the pitches. Pitches are very spacious and the whole place is well kept.
There are 2 good sized play areas and a dog walk area.
The showers and toilets are very clean and well laid out with good changing areas. Only small problem was that the shower didn't really get warm when used early in the morning. When the shower in the family room was tried at a different time of day it was fine.
The shop was reasonably well stocked and the leaflet shack was really useful.
The site is only 5 mins away from Lyme Register. The nearest supermarket is Tescos in Axminster.

We stayed here specifically to visit the Jurassic Coast. The site is somewhat further from the coast than anticipated but it is only a short drive down to Charmouth.
A very friendly welcome and quick run through the site facilities and we were shown to our pitch - a lone tent in a sea of caravans. Well maybe a lake of caravans or a tarn - the site is divided by high hedges into little avenues and cul-de-sacs giving it a small site feel.
There is a large camping field at the top of the site. Earlier reviewers have said that this is a long way from the facilities and so it would be, but there are now dedicated portable cabin facilities in this field.
In the main site there are 2 facility blocks - a bigger block to the left of reception as you arrive and a smaller block to the right. Both are clean and bright. I never had to queue for anything. There are under cover washing up areas in both blocks. The reception area contains a small but well stocked shop. It is also licensed and has a chiller cabinet with cold beverages for sale - bonus! For the kids there a couple of nice play areas.
The nearest nearest supermarket was Morrisons in Bridport which also has a filling station. This is about 15 minutes away.
The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre is less than 10 minutes by car or just over an hour to walk. Remember that it is uphill on the way back! There are large car parks by the centre (£4 per day) but they do get busy.
The heritage centre is worth a visit before you hit the beach on your fossil hunt. Do take note of the warning signs concerning the cliffs and the tides. Before we knew it we had spent 5 hours but came away with a few nice looking fossils.

When we stayed they had had bad rain and we were upgraded FOC to a hardstanding pitch which was a terraced pitch with plenty of room from our neighbours.
The site is quite large but feels small with the paddocked areas poor recycling facilities which is a bit of a downside and could be improved also quite a walk for the chemical disposal point- dependent on your pitch but may cause problems for some.
Shop seemed to be well stocked with lots of local information. Staff were friendly, toilet/showers very clean, nice & spacey. Excellent dog walk through woods possibly one of the best we have seen.
Site is a little bit isolated however walks are possible into Lyme Regis but there no bus route via the site therefore a 15 min walk back although the bus did stop especially for us at a junction. Local pub a short drive - not really for walking to as down a busy main road and a little far, supermarket is a 10 min drive away in Axminster.
Not much at Charmouth however Beer is definitely worth a visit as a quaint fishing village. All in all a very nice site.

We stayed at charmouth for 3 nights mid july. Originally we booked for 2 but decided to stay an extra night which was not a problem. On check in we were told we had been relocated to a hardstanding pitch as due to recent weather the grass pitches were unsuitable for our van but this was not a problem and I appreciate the site for doing this for us. The staff were always very helpful.
The site was lovely with hedgerows and well managed gardens and the safety of children had been well thought about with a small path leading up to a good play area.
The stock in the shop was limited but we were given directions to a local farm shop and supermarket.
The bathrooms were clean and well managed however it was a problem them being closed for an hour and a half each day for cleaning between 10:30 and 12 I think it was. We were told the family room would be accessible during this time but this was also closed for cleaning.
Wouldn't it be better to close after 12 when most campers are out for the day or have checked out? It did become an inconvenience for my son and when we were having days out as we were unable to use the loo before heading off which meant searching for public loos being the first task each place we visited.
It also meant that showers became very busy first thing with everyone rushing to the 2 cubicles before they were closed. I understand that this has to be done but a little later would help the morning rush. Overall though this was not a major problem just a niggle.
Overall this was a great site with good size pitches and very family friendly. I would recommend to anyone.

Superb site, we will visit again. There was heavy rain for the first part of our visit and our trailer tent ended up in the path of a stream! The staff sorted us out with an all weather pitch and the problem was resolved.
Although it was a pain to take everything down and set up again, it certainly made our holiday a lot more comfortable and dry! The site itself has fantastic free showers, wash rooms, under cover washing facilities and a laundry. It is all tidy and well manicured. A joy to look upon.
Not too far to visit Lyme Regis, Charmouth, West Bay, Bridport, Seaton and Sea Town (a lovely beach and ideal for fossil hunters)
Lyme Regis has many many places to eat and drink, great individual shops and plenty of pubs.
We called in at a lovely pub just outside of Yawl where we met a lovely mother and daughter duo of bar staff! I cant remember the name of the place so you will just have to look out for the place if you pass through!
If you need to get shopping in, call at either Tescos in Seaton or Morrisons in Bridport. They both sell Cornish ale in bottles, brewed by Skinners who do a range of Betty Stoggs, Ginger Tosser and Cornish Knocker. Try the local brew of Otter ale if you can.
We visited the Lyme Bay Brewery and bought a few of their own ales. A lovely place to visit with a cheesemongers, art gallery, cafes and a gift shop.
