Very friendly campsite. Taken to our pitch, everything explained to us, dog walk pointed out.
Dog walk through woods with poo bins provided.
Showers and toilets very clean and warm. Piping hot showers.
Very large pitches plenty of room on the hard standing for van and awning and them a very large expanse of grass for BBQ, dog tether, table and chairs.
5 mins away from charmouth beach where you can hunt for fossils and 10 mins away from Lyme Regis.
All in all a very nice friendly clean site which we shall visit again when in the area. Small playground for children but more an adult site I would say.
Small shop on site but well stocked.
Only complaint, rather expensive at £22 per night.

This is a big spacious siteof 129 acres with both grass and hardstanding pitches which are well spaced and mostly flat. There are large grassed and planted areas and two play areas. There is a small dog walking area, The woodland across road is no longer available for dog walkers.
Previous reviews praised the toilets. There are two blocks, The larger one has large shower cubicles washbasins and toilets it also has a family room during our visit the water was not hot. This block is closed for cleaning after lunch.
The smaller toilet block which serves half the site has small domestic type shower cubicles washbasins and family room. This toilet block was closed for cleaning from 10. 30- 12 although the family room is left open.
Both toilet blocks are dated but scrupulously clean and checked several times daily There is a large caravan storage compound and many regular visitors who utilise the sites tow out service.
The site is one mile from the nearest bus stop along the main A35 with limited footpaths.
The nearest supermarket in Bridport is 7 miles away. The best feature of this site is the staff. The small army of wardens are without exception warm, friendly and helpful they also man the well stocked site shop.
Two catering vans visit on Saturday and Wednesday both providing good food at reasonable prices. The location necessitates transport. Walking maps and information are available from reception (some requiring a deposit).

Just returned from visiting this site with children and a dog.
The lower part of the site is very nicely landscaped for caravans and tents wanting electric. Tents not wanting electric seem to be confined to a very large field on a hill at the top of the site. This could be windy.
The normal C&CC rules didn't seem to apply and we were told we could pitch anywhere in the field. No mention of the 6m rule. However most people did abide by this. The field was sloping and noise could be heard from the main road.
Drinking water was from a stand pipe with no waste water. Shower block was quite a trek but you got used to it and they were clean with nice big showers. The shop was very well stocked and open long hours. Dogs have to be on the lead the whole time, even on the dog walk. At the entrance to the site just across the road is a wood where the dog could run.
Wardens were very friendly when we checked in and there was always someone on hand to help. The children's playgrounds were excellent and a lot better than most C&CC sites keeping the kids entertained. Would go back but might consider paying for a grass with electric pitch for better location. Location is ideal for Lyme Regis which is a lovely seaside town, in Axminister is Tescos for food shopping.

Spent just under two weeks here at the back end of July. We booked a little late so opted for one of the All Weather Pitches, which as it turns out are excellent. The base being predominantly chalk meant that the pegs had top be put in a little harder than when on grass, but apart from that there was no issue with erecting our tent.
The other good thing about the All Weather Pitches is that they are in I would describe as a cul-de-sac. We had pitch 37 (which was huge) which was tucked away in the corner, which was excellent as our 3 year old daughter could run around to her hearts content without the worry of passing cars.
As is expected the toilet facilities were excellent, probably the best we’ve been to, spotlessly clean and a good size. We had use of the parent and child room also which again was very nice.
The staff were always very helpful and polite and always seemed very busy. The only negative we would give is that it does get very busy and on more that one occasion we had to queue for the showers, but that being said we would not hesitate in going back.
All in all probably the best C & CC site we have been to.

Terrible site - don't go there! Good, now you won't bother & it'll stay nice & quiet for us when we revisit, which we will.
Best showers & toilets we've come across, nice wet room style showers, so no nasty shower curtain to blow against you &, best of all, no push button shower & set temperature, you're treated like an adult and allowed to be trusted to turn the shower off & select your own temperature - this is in the stone block close to reception, the newer block further along has shower cubicles.
Just off A35 so touring a dream, closer to Lyme Regis, especially if you go the back way via the turning at Hunters Lodge pub which'll take you to Car Park at top of west end of Lyme.
Lyme Regis lovely, not much in Charmouth except the beach. Dogs only allowed on Monmouth beach in Lyme in Summer, nicer beach for a couple of hours is Eype, just off A35 in Dorchester direction

Enjoyed a very pleasant 3 night stay with our dog and although relatively new to Motor- Homing this would have to be our favourite site so far.
The facilities are really 5 star. The showers are huge and free! The site is really well kept and beautifully laid out.
The pitches are spacious and well served by water points and bins located everywhere and emptied daily which meant that I did not see any rubbish anywhere.
The showers only close for cleaning in the afternoon which is far more convenient than the usual morning cleaning. The laundry facilities were great and open until 8pm in the evening which is really useful.
There was a jacket potato van on site on the Saturday night that we arrived which seemed quite popular. Reception staff was both friendly and helpful and there was a fairly well stocked shop.
I purchased 3 days wi-fi for £8 which I thought was a little expensive but the signal was good and the service was reliable.
There is a dog walking area at the rear of the site through woods and also an adjacent field. Unfortunately, dogs have to be on a lead at all times but the field was enclosed and perfect for a little ‘off lead’ run around. It would be great if the site would reconsider this as our canine friends need a little exercise and socialisation on their holiday too!
The weather was not good for our stay but we made the most of our time and enjoyed everything the site has to offer.
Lyme Regis and Charmouth can be reached by public transport (dog friendly). The bus stop is just down the side of the road by the Talbot Arms pub which is about a 25 minute walk from the site.
We went in to the pub for a drink whilst waiting for the bus and despite Sunday lunches being served they made us and our dog very welcome. We didn’t get off the bus at Lyme Regis but it looked very busy indeed.
Charmouth is much quieter with a nice beach although dogs not allowed on it in peak season. There are some lovely views from the hills surrounding the beaches.
To summarise this really is a first class site in the perfect area for discovering the dramatic and beautiful Jurassic coast. Would definitely recommend.

Previously stayed at this site 5 or so years ago in a tent, was + still is one of the best sites we've been to, don't make a habit of going back to sites prefer to explore new ones but this site was worth it.
Since our first visit it has expanded into what was Monkton Wylde campsite. Only used the toilet + shower block near to reception which were the original C+CC facilities + they are the best we've ever used.
Didn't have to wait or queue despite the site being full, though I am an early starter. Found the wardens absolutely perfect, very helpful but not intrusive.
Visited the 'River Cottage Canteen' in nearby Axminster for an excellent meal + night out, enjoyed visiting Lyme Regis, walking up Golden Cap near Charmouth + had an enjoyable day on the Seaton Tramway, which are all less than 10 miles away.
All in all a great well laid out site in an area with lots to do, will return + wont leave it 5 years next time.

The site is primarily known as 'Monkton Wyld' - CCC Handbook calls it Charmouth but it could equally have been called Axminster or Lyme Regis as it's as close to these towns.
One of the best CCC sites ever but for newcomers to CCC, don't think it's typical - we paid the same (relatively steep) price elsewhere in Dorset for far less luxurious facilities on another CCC site. Hotel-quality toilet block closed for cleaning after lunch, not when you need to use it in the morning which is more usual. Spacious wet rooms, not push-button poky shower cubicles. Free hair dryer! The laundry does not close in the evening just when you want to use it, which is the norm. Our terraced pitch was spacious - a full 15m wide (ideal for being converted to a static pitch, as on other parts of the site) and far in excess of the CCC '6 metre rule'. Lots of trees and flowering shrubs. The Wardens were friendly, helpful and (again, not typical) seemed to lay on things for youngsters to do.
For dog owners, there's a small dog walk in a new wood on site, or unlimited walking in the woods just over the road. The Handbook says it's 'near to' Charmouth's sandy beaches and we'd seen ourselves walking the dog from the pitch to the sea. But it's a 3 mile walk down a steep hill and 3 miles back up. Be aware that dogs aren't allowed on all the beaches, or may only be allowed on them out of high season - TIC has a useful leaflet.
For motorhome owners, there's a full motorhome service bay with grey water gully. We found both Charmouth and Lyme Regis a nightmare to park in: both towns have a large car park on higher ground on the eastern approach with dedicated motorhome spaces in the far corner. Another tip -collect a range of coins before you come, as you need them for parking fees (no change given). And be careful to pay the right fee - in some car parks, motorhomes count as 'commercial' vehicles.

We had this site recommended to us and it was everything we were told! We had a lovely stay at this site in August, the staff were so friendly – nothing was too much trouble! We were really pleased with the pitch we had, the distance from camping field to facilities was explained but wasn’t a problem at all using the new woodland path. The facilities on the site were really nice, shower blocks were spotless, both blocks had laundries and the shop was really well stocked - very handy!
We will definitely use this site again and recommend it!

Stayed here the last weekend of Half Term. Could not recommend the site highly enough the staff were brilliant putting us in a small paddock with other tent people.
The toilets and showers were some, no the best I have ever experienced while camping. The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.
We when looking for fossils and found loads this was a great site in a great place.
Only note was you could just here the road if the wind was in the right direction but you would have to be hyper sensitive to let it keep you awake.
