We went to the Charmouth Camping and Caravanning Club site during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend and we really enjoyed it.
The facilities were spotless, nice warm showers, very generous pitch size and the staff were very helpful. There was even a fish and chip van on the Sunday and the food from that was excellent.
There were also two dog walking areas, which were also very good.
The only very slight criticism I have about the toilet/shower block facilities is the lack of soap dispensers. There was only one soap dispenser for the entire row of sinks. Other than that I cannot fault the toilet/shower blocks at all.

Our second year camping at this site. Although the weather was wet (as last year) the staff were very helpful and offered us a variety of suggestions for an alternative pitch.
The showers and toilets on the Charmouth side are immaculate and the hot water seems endless! Washing up facilities also excellent - never had to queue in just over two weeks, even though the site was full.
In a wonderful area of Dorset and close to East Devon - our family just loves it and we will back next year - perhaps there will be some sun.!

Next to the main A road it provides easy access to local towns, which is just as well as there is not a great deal within walking distance. Having a young family we had been pitched by the site staff next to the main entrance on a slope, including the main roundabout for the multitude of cars, vans & caravans, main ‘rat run’ for the older kids on their bicycles and the site endorsed chip van.
So with the constant traffic & older kids whizzing past mixed with the smell of chip fat to keep us amused and constantly vigilant for our children. We were pleased when they (our kids) were tucked up in their beds.
Yes, they do close the gate at 11pm and yes they do ask you to be silent come 11pm and if your children are waking you at some ungodly hour to go to the loo they will also remind you to be silent… At least they send a very junior member of staff to tell you this in the morning.
On the plus side we found we were within easy reach of the loos & washing facilities.
The site itself is reasonably clean and maintained; the shower, toilet & washing block is a permanent building and the site shop does stock the basics.
Okay for the elderly, but I would not take my family back.

This is a large site. The shower block is clean with family rooms for families with smaller children. The site has a shop for the basics. All pitches are spacious however we did have a problem with flooding after a particularly wet day. Our neighbours had advised us to move our tent forward by approx 4 feet to avoid the tent flooding as the previous campers on that pitch has been flooded by a huge puddle. We duly did so but the puddle returned and we had to bail out the puddle to ensure that we were not flooded during the night. A helpful groundsman came to look at the pitch that evening and the following morning and offered us an alternative pitch but we had decided to leave a day early in any event. We were told that that the previous pitch occupants had not informed the site owners of the problem. Having said all this the site was nice and the area is lovely with lots of attractions.

Mixed views on this site really. It's a very pretty site with lovely gardens at the entrance and around shower block. Staff very friendly and helpful. Pitches spacious. Rabbits hopping about between pitches. Toilets and showers are very good in purpose built blocks - they have solid walls rather than pre-fab cubicles. On the downside one side of the site is very close to the main coastal road and the traffic noise was incessant. The childrens play area was well away from where we were pitched - too far for our children to go unaccompanied. Luckily, no-one complained about them playing with a ball in the centre of the field. There are two play areas - one is very good and was crowded and noisy. I saw queues for the showers one morning when the site was not full. Oh, and you really need to drive to go anywhere, no pubs within walking distance. Having said that, we loved Charmouth and Lyme Regis - just a short drive away. Both have plenty of car parking spaces. We spent most of our time here on the beach. Yes, we would go again.

Charmouth is a very nice site, well landscaped with trees and shrubs seperating the pitches (they're not individual pitches though). We stayed on the Monkton Wylde site which is more peaceful because it's further away from the main road, but there is only one toilet block on this side with 2 showers & 3 toilets in the ladies side. There are a lot of touring caravans pitched on this site all season, many of whom only visit a weekends so it was very quiet midweek when we were there. However the showers were still very busy so it must be hell at weekends. And to make matters worse one of the showers was out of order for 2 days! Our pitch was 200 yards from the toilets - or so the receptionist told us - and believe me it's a long walk at night. The other toilet/shower block is as good as described in other reviews but I only hiked over there once when the queue for the showers was too bad on our side.
The area is wonderful and the staff provide guided walks and maps (deposit required). Staff are very helpful and will recommend places to visit and where to eat and will freeze your freezer packs for 20p.
Places worth visiting are Lyme Regis (have a meal or just buy your bread from the Old Mill -it's divine), Beer and Branscombe which are very pretty, River Cottage HQ in Axminster (we avoided Tesco's), and various points of the coastline between Lyme Regis and Weymouth which, being on the SW coastal path are excellent for walking and exploring.Kilmington (about 4 miles west) has a farm shop and excellent pub, both on the main road.
Weather was great whilst we were there, except for the last night. However the ground is chalk so it dries out quickly although standard tent pegs will keep your tent secure.
Very nice site, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, despite the trek to the toilets!

Monkton Wylde camping & caravan park is split into two halves one side being c&cc site, the other monkton wylde, both of which are spottlessly clean and provide very clean / modern toilet / shower facilities. The site is situated about two miles from Charmouth (a sleepy village with a village shop or two and couple of pubs) & 3miles from Lyme Regis (lively fishing town / shopping ). The site is very peaceful and is sheltered by mature trees and hedges, most caravan pitches are hard standing and all have electric hookups however the camping piches are on slightly sloping ground. Play area on the Monkton Wylde side of park with swings, climbing frame, goal posts. The staff are friendly and attentive to your needs, gas, milk and bread are available from reception, tesco a five minute drive away in Axeminster. The site is a good base to explore the local area and attractions and is a quiet retreat to return to at the end of the day. We as a family will be returning to this site.

Just spent two nights at this site and it was very good. Toilet and shower block the best we have been to, really clean and looked newly built also showers were FREE, which is always a bonus! Camp site itself very clean and spacious, pitches are not cramped together.
All in all an easy going site, set in a very quiet location. The staff very friendly, would recommend for all, couples, singles and families.

Very nice site, spacious and level. Toilet and showers very clean. Good children's play area. No shop at the moment which was a bit tricky when we realised we had left out gas lighter at home but management very helpful and lent us a lighter. They were also very helpful when we were trying to put up a new awning in the wind!

We spent a week here in August 2006, the facilities were excellent with a large play area for the childre. The toilets, wash rooms and shower facilities were excellent. When we visited the site was privately owned but looks just as nice now it as a caravan and Camping Club site. The site was kept beautifully and was very clean. A lovely week was had by all. Lyme regis about 4 miles away was absolutely beautiful and a must be for a visit.
