I am not sure what to make of this site. It is located up a narrow, stony farm track through the tiny hamlet of Treen. When I arrived at the top of the hill, there was just one other camper van and its owner informed me that he couldn't get in touch with the site owner but found his father in the hamlet who told him just to pitch up anywhere. I called the owner's mobile too but got nothing so decided to go sight-seeing and come back later. I arrived around 7pm and found a suitable spot for the night.

In the morning I awoke to beautiful sunshine and could see the site for what it was, with panoramic views and birds nesting in ancient hedgerows - I suddenly felt a little more comfortable than when I arrived.

I had a warm shower using some tokens which had been left on the side - I presume this had been done because the owner knew he would be out. Unfortunately, I got no hot water for washing up so I tested the taps in the toilet and again got no hot water. The toilets and the showers are separate blocks, I preferred the shower block to the toilet block to be honest.

Right before I left, the owner arrived and opened reception, he seemed surprised when I held out the cash to pay him.

I think I'd go back here on the basis it is probably rather lovely in the Summer.

We went to Treen Farm, we being:

2 Adults

3 Children

For those who are unaware, Treen Farm allocate pitches on an ad-hoc daily basis which means no pre booking. You turn up and those first in line get the available pitches for that day.

The 'No booking' system they have only added to the excitement of the Holiday as you really have no idea where you will be staying until you get there

Going by what others mentioned, we planned to get there by 6am. We were travelling from Nottingham so planned to set off about midnight.

We did not set off until 2am so We arrived into the car park in Treen village just before or just after 8pm.

NOTE:

There are 2 car parks, one is council owned, the other is owned by Treen Farm, park in the one owned by Treen Farm (The field on your left I believe) so you do not have to pay a fee, or worse, get a fine for not having a ticket.

Once parked up in the car park (there were not too many cars there) the gentleman who owns/runs the site clocked us and took down our name. He advised us to go to the site office/shop which is up the track to your right of the car park before you go into the car park at around 10AM as they should know how many pitches they have at that point to allocate.

We were hungry so went to the Cafe near the car park which was rather nice from what I recall. We stretched our legs and it was 10AM by this point.

We went upto the site office/shop.

There were many more people present waiting for pitches, more than the number of cars I had seen in the car park. The site does seem very popular with backpackers.

They called out names in order from the list and those present were allocated pitches. The final name was read out, it was not ours. We were next on the list.

We had a backup plan (Well, just noted some other sites on the way in) so we were prepared to move on when a lady advised us to sit tight for a few minutes as someone who had booked in for the night MIGHT be leaving a day early as they had to be back at work earlier than expected or something but they were not sure what the patron was doing.

They came back to us and informed us that the person was infact leaving later in the day so we could have their pitch later in the day when they left. Cue smiles all round from us.

They took us round in their car to show us the site and the specific pitch which was sea facing in the lower field and AMAZING.

We were told to come back at around 3pm.

We took a strole through the fields down to Pednvounder Beach which is one of the best beaches I have been to. I would not suggest attempting the short walk to the beach with a pushchair though, it starts off OK then gets steeper with steps. Not impossible, but not for the feint of heart either :)

Spent the rest of the morning/early afternoon on there, grabbed some lunch then took a strole back to the site. We noticed our pitch was empty so went to the site office and they gave us the all clear to pitch up.

Treen Farm is the best camp site I have ever been to.

If I had to summarise it in two words, I would say Simple and Beautiful but the beauty of it is far from simple.

All pitches seemed to have a wooden bench which was a nice touch and pitches were generously sized.

The toilet/shower/washing facilities were great and were regularly attended.

No EHUs which is of no use to me anyway.

I spoke to one guy who had been there for 2 months or something, I can understand why.

The site attracts nice people and although our 10 month was far from the quietest little thing in town, nobody said a word or gave us any odd looks.

We stayed there for 8 nights and we all had a blast. Was soo nice to come back to the site knowing it was 'home' after a day out. Felt safe for the little ones too.

The staff on site (I think it is family run) were very friendly and helpful so I do not have bad word to say about the site other than the best camp site in such an amazing part of the world.

Would I come here again? Yes yes yes! Truly superb.

Just got back from Treen Farm Campsite, booked in for 4 nights, extended another 2 and then another 2 - 8 days in all! This site is superb!

The previous comments about not being able to book and it being 'trouble' to get on site may well be true but not in our experience - we arrived on site Friday 22nd July 9am (a little concerned that we were late after intending to arrive by 8am)and were advised that pitches for that day would be available.

Gill made us a cup of coffee whilst Kevin took us around site to show us what choice of pitches we'd have. We opted for a pitch down in the corner of the first field (car free except for pitching and striking camp), the views from this pitch were really good - facing south we could see across the fields to the sea with glimpses of The Lizard, Wolf Rock Lighthouse (and many fishing boats at night time).

The toilet blocks and showers, although not the most modern, were always very clean and equipped with ample toilet rolls, hand wash and paper towels.

The washing up facilities were ok but equipped with bowls, washing up liquid, sponges and brushes - never seen that before on any camp. The water was always hot.

The showers work on a token - 25p for 5 minutes but often longer! I didn't have a problem paying for the tokens when we only paid £13 per night for our 4 man tent and the facilities being well cared for.

There's a laundry on site (not used) and a well equipped shop - some things were a little more expensive but not all, usual for camp shops.

The local meats were superb - steaks, sausages and bacon direct from a local farm. Fresh rolls daily from a local baker and home made pasties baked daily.

Following the coastal path from camp takes you towards Penberth or Porthcurno (Porth Chapel Beach is great)and also down to Pednvounder Beach - this beach is simply stunning and due to its location not crowded at all (it is part naturist but at the far end only).

Be warned it's a steep climb down ( and steeper coming back!)to get to beach and suitable footware should be warned - flip flops are no good! I didn't know that the UK had a beach like this.

This is a great part of Cornwall and the site is wonderfully sited in Treen which has the Logans Rock pub - nice local pub but found it to be a bit pricey with 'ok' food. The staff work incredibly hard to provide great facilities and service.

I'd recommend this site without reservation to any one visiting this part of Cornwall.

The first thing I noticed in about Treen Farm campsite was the exceptional setting and breathtaking views, it really seems to be at the end of the world! The site is made up of three fields that are separated by hedges, while it was a touch exposed I was able to pitch my tent in a position with minimal wind.

The showers were really nice and there were plenty of them and the washing facilities were first class. I didn't use the shop and only went in to pay for my pitch but they appeared to sell pretty much everything that you'd need in an emergency.

The main selling point for the site for me would be its proximity to the coastal path. I spent one afternoon and evening walking to Lands End, The scenery just got better and better, a particular highlight being the Mynack Theatre and while it took me about 2. 5 hours the walk is both challenging and achievable. I also recommend the local pub which did a fine line in real ales and very good food.

We have just spent a lovely couple of days at Treen and would definitely recommend it. We pitched up in an area where cars were only allowed in for dropping off kit and packing up, which made it perfect for children.

There are lovely sea views and a really pretty 15 min walk to Porthcurno or a shorter walk to the stunning beach at Pedn; I'd recommend sturdy shoes for that walk as it involves scrambling over cliffs.

The facilities were great-we were all a bit worried about the shower token running out but 5 mins was plenty. The kids have never been so clean as they loved getting a token for a shower. There was a massive washing machine and tablets included for £3.50 as well as a tumble dryer if you are staying for longer than a few days.

The campsite shop sold everything we wanted for a short stay and the owners were great. Really pleased with how reasonable the rates were and will definitely go back. Probably not in the height of the season though as can't face the hassle of potentially hanging around on a waiting list for a pitch.

The track down to the site is very narrow and there are warning signs to that effect. Do not tackle the track unless you are a competent driver as those Cornish hedgerows are very unforgiving.

The site is a National Trust site and is pretty representative of its type. The people who use them tend to have a 'Right on' attitude. If this suits you, then Treen will be the stuff of dreams for you

It is set with clear views of Logan Rock and Porthcurno and later in the day you will be able to make out the lights from Minack Theatre - worth a visit but check to see what's on first.

It is another site where having alternative transport would be a good idea. If you have a large motorhome then you probably wouldn't want to tackle the track everyday.

In fact, most of the surrounding lanes are not really suitable for the larger m/homes

Logan Rock P/H has food. I thought that it was over priced 'pub grub' but maybe I am being over critical.

It had signs saying that it was some sort of 'training pub of the year'. If this is the case, perhaps they could teach their staff to say 'Good morning, good afternoon, please and thank you' This is not too much to ask.

These comments also apply to the site as well

Amazing location and adequate facilities, but whether or not it's worth the manic scramble to get a pitch in high season is debatable.

We'd read on here that it was first come first served, with names written on the list in the shed in the car park in the village from 8am, so got there at 6.15am to be on the safe side. There were already 2 sets of campers waiting, and we were quickly joined by more and more, until there were over 20 groups of people in the queue. Everyone's names and size of tent were written down, then we were told to come back at 10am to hear whether we'd got a pitch. At 10am names started to be called, but these were of people who'd put their names down the day before, luckily none had come back, so must have found other sites to go to. Eventually we were called, but only we and the 2 tents before us got places-noone else did.

So, in summary, it's a definite recommendation out of high season; the cliff top location is unbeatable, but stay away during the summer holidays as the no booking rule leads to chaos and frustration.

The beauty of Treen Campsite is it's location and it's simplicity. It has all the facilities you need.If you want more then maybe you should book in a hotel. Top class beaches in walking distance and superb coastal walks the coastline beats anything anywhere. The owners are helpful and friendly. The shop is well stocked and reasonable. The camping fees are also reasonable. Fresh organic eggs are available from the nearby farm, home grown in season veg are also available. It all adds up to a proper camping experience at great value.

 I enjoyed the place.

The showers were perfectly adequate and the washing up facilities had plenty of hot water.

The views are superb and it is a good base if you want a walking holiday

I didn't use the shop as it was towards the end of the season and the site was about to close for the winter so I am unable to comment on their prices.

The general atmosphere of the place is very laid back and we were just told to stop where-ever we liked with our small self-build Motorhome.

The 'welcome' was really nice and we were made to feel wanted.

Access to the site is both narrow and has low trees / bushes so may be difficult with either a high Motorhome or Caravan.

We arrived here about 2pm and was glad as the site got quite a few more arrivals after ourselves but was in no way packed out.

We had been to Lands end previously that day.The largest rip off we have encountered in the UK recently! £4 to park. With no option as only car park there. Everything was out to grab your money hence we didn't stay very long!

Anyway back to the Treen campsite. Fantastic views.Owner friendly. After we booked in he just let us choose a pitch for ourselves. We had lots of room and thought the picnic tables a nice touch.

Cost £11 oer night but the shower tokens were given to us free for that night.Initially we thought the facilities looked really basic but although the buildings look more like huts the facilities were good. Shower room had lots of space. I liked little touches in the dishwashing area such as very hot water, washing up liquid was available and drainers for your plates.

We walked to Porthcurno.15 mins and sat on the beach for a while. That evening we went to the pub in Treen, the Logan Rock. Advisable to book at the weekends and when there are dos on at the Minack Theatre. The pub had a nice atmosphere but the food was just ok.Nothing special. Had expected a better standard of food to be honest.
