Just got back from 10 nights at this excellent site. Facilities excellent and always clean and tidy. Toilets are nothing to worry about, a little strange not having to flush before leaving the toilet block. Showers clean and hot water always available, kept clean daily by the warden's who kept the site in good order all through our stay. The ground can hold water after heavy down pour but this soon goes and ground drys quickly and caused no problems. No noise from the quarry was heard and yes you do hear some train noise but this is soon forgotten when you realise you are camping in the woods with wild deer, rabbits, squirrels and loads of birds. Excellent holiday and will be booking again for next year.

Mixed feelings about this site. Pretty but difficult to find a pitch as very busy and round a one way system. Lots of areas out of use as soggy and ended up finding a pitch right next to the busy railway line and level crossing.
Very small pitches. Unable to put up our larger awning and found it odd that you had to park your car behind the caravan. It felt like you were invading someones space all the time. We got asked to move our car almost immediately by the caravan next to us even though he could have parked next to his awning with room to spare.
Toilets and showers were clean but we prefer to use our own. Good service point very close to us but some people had a bit of a walk to them.
Squirrels, birds, rabbits and deer are seen regularly on the site. No TV signal and so bought a lead from the wardens.
We didn't get any phone signal and had to drive five miles to find one. There is a pay phone on site but this doesn't help if someone needs to contact you urgently.
If you want to cut yourself off from the outside world and absolutely love trains then this is the site for you!

Had a great time at this site - the non-flushing enviro-loos are a bit of a shock but are fine after the initial surprise! Showers are in separate blocks though - quite odd. Everything has a very high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
The circular route round the site is lovely, it just meanders about, in and out of the woodland, which the children love exploring.
There is no decent shopping nearby, or fish & chips, or anything like that, which is a shame. Not far into Dorchester though.

This site is not up to Caravan Club standards - the last time I smelt and saw toilets like that was when I went to India 10 years ago! It's ok being eco-friendly but taking a step back to the dark ages is no way to treat modern people who are used to flushing toilets.
I realise not everyone is a sun-worshipper but when you have no choice but to pitch under a canopy of trees it is not ideal. Most pitches were muddy, the drainage is diabolical and it is ridiculous to have a shower in one of only 6 shower units, and then have to walk to a smelly toilet block to clean your teeth or have a shave.
If we had not already paid for our stay we would have driven right out and gone to the Caravan & Camping Club site next door which was light, airy and had decent amenities.

Not the high standard expected of a CC site.
Noisy site, train toots 4 times an hour, road noise, quarry noise and rumbling tanks from Bovingdon Camp
Shower and toilet blocks in separate areas - didn't like
Eco toilets - weird - no flush and smelly after all the rain
Pitches in Dell and Heath areas very soggy and full of pot holes, need lots of gravel on them
Only 4 washing up sinks for 112 pitches - often queues
Only 6 showers for 112 pitches
Grouting in showers grubby and sealant round sinks.
Choose your pitch carefully, toilet and shower blocks not as near as some sites and when it's raining.
On the + side dog walk on site was very good
Lighting at night for 10 o/c walk for dogs very dark
All beaches stony only sand one in middle of Weymouth ask at Dorchester Tourist Information for good dog beaches cos' the wardens sent us to Studland which had a dog ban!
Nearest cash point at Tesco in Dorchester, or Link one at Crossways Stores and Post Office, the wardens didn't know - which I found amazing.
No Fish and Chip van arrives and there isn't a good local one, Warmwell site has one but a site reviewer said it was not very good.
Nearest supermarket 25 minute journey to Dorchester, small Co op in Wareham but we never went there so can't comment. Area short on supermarkets.
Good walk in Moreton and good tea room
Good walk in Thorncombe Woods and if you walk down the hill to Bockhampton there are the Pine Tree tea rooms-excellent
Dorchester cinema good and cheap.
Train 100 yards from site to Poole and beyond or Weymouth.
Poole has good park near bus station for hiring boat on lake.
Great boat ride from Lulworth cove, a fast rib which my husband and girls enjoyed.
Corfe castle expensive ( National Trust ) but worth it if not for the views. Corfe a quaint village, get the steam train from Norden.
Eype and Ringstead good dog beaches.

This site is unlike other CC sites we've stayed on but it is nicely laid out and despite lots of rain we were never waterlogged. We did think the pitches were quite small; a caravan, awning and car have to be carefully placed to give yourself any space to sit outside, but we had good neighbours so there were no 'territorial' issues during our stay.
We did use the on site facilities occasionally but were glad we didn't have to rely on them. The showers were small and a bit dingy with very poor pressure and no wash basins in the same block for you to clean your teeth and the toilets are definitely an acquired taste (which I have to say I never really acquired!). However both were clean and we never experienced any problems with 'bad smells'.
The very best thing about the site is the wildlife. We spent hours watching the baby rabbits who were happy to come and nibble grass right by our feet and we had several sightings of a mother and baby deer in a clearing just behind our caravan.
We ate once at the Frampton arms, which is quite expensive but with good food and a nice atmosphere, and found the local shop (about half a mile away) adequate for basic shopping. Tesco in Dorchester is about a 10-15 minute drive away and is open 24 hours.
The only other thing which should be mentioned is the level crossing bell which rings at regular intervals throughout the day and evening. We did get used to this but weren't really able to zone it out.
We enjoyed our stay but would probably try an alternative site if we wished to visit the area again.

This was a lovely site, it has a meandering circular route around the site that has pockets of pitches around it, some are a long walk from the facilities so choose well. Nice open areas to pitch in. Welcoming wardens.
Areas in between the pitches are wooded hills that the kids loved to explore. No play area but my two younger kids loved it and made friends easily with a neighbour.
Train toots every half hour as it approaches the nearby level crossing, didn't hear any quarry noise, did hear lots of tanks rumbling around for a while.
Nearest beach is pebbly, we mainly went to Studland and Weymouth for our days out. We didn't even venture into Dorchester, too many sunny seaside days! Would go back.

Just spent the royal wedding weekend at crossways, and loved it, clean tidy well laid out site. There is a train line right behind the site and a quarry the other side, but this shouldn't affect you.
This is good if you have a camper as you could park up and catch a train to Weymouth or the other way to Poole and Bournemouth,
This site is good for families as the road around the site is good for a bike ride, older kids could get bored as not a lot to do on site.
Toilet blocks are eco toilets and were clean shower blocks are clean too, staff very good and helpful.
All in all I thought this site was like an larger scale cl site, good for family and friends wanting to chill out and bbq in the evenings take your own booze as local pub, Frampton arms, was way expensive, one beer and large white wine £8.50. We had one drink there and watched one in three couples turning up at the pub walked away refusing to pay the price for food and drink!
To sum up good clean site, entertain yourselves in the evenings and use the train for days out

Have just returned from a very nice week at Croosways, we have been to this part of Dorset many times and can't believe we have never stayed here before!
Most pros and cons have been discussed in previous reviews, specially the toilets which we had no problem with whatsoever. The placement of the shower blocks is also a little odd, at opposite ends of the site and not alongside the toilet block as you might expect.
Just a little bit of updated information, the Texaco garage at the entrance to the site is no longer open (with a new fence around it that restricts your view of the road as you leave the site) which means the nearest shop is about 3/4 of a mile away, left out of the site entrance. Also train fares are a little higher now at around £5 each way to Weymouth.
All in all this is a very attractively laid out site with pitches at all angles to each other, very clean and tidy and easily up to the standards we come to expect from a Caravan Club site.
There are some areas of the site which look like they may be prone to soft ground when it rains and there is some noise from the nearby railway, quarry and road depending on which part of the site you are staying.
There is so much to see and do in this part of Dorset that we will definitely be returning to Crossways at some point in the near future.
