Just returned from Crossways after a weekend, our first visit.

I have to say having read some of the rather negative comments we were very pleasantly surprised. The site had several areas 'out of use' due to soggy ground, but we managed to find an excellent pitch in the Heath area.

Toilets and showers were very clean and despite being in separate blocks did not pose a problem.(good to walk !)

Perhaps the Caravan Club should look at its 'green' credentials and install more water saving composting toilets and energy saving measures.

However this is a well laid out site amongst the trees with different areas in sun or shade to suit everyone. Some railway noise but this certainly did not detract from our stay.

Excellent pub within 5 minute walk, and good supplies from petrol station at entrance to club site.

This is first class 'natural' site ( no rows of caravans as usual CC sites)in a lovely part of Dorset and will certainly return very soon.

Best bit.The wardens and their assistants who were very pleasant, helpful and a pleasure to meet, the site is worth a visit just meet them. Highly recommended site.

Stayed for a week. Had a brilliant holiday as we spent most of our time travelling around the local area as we had not been there before. The site itself is ok. We stayed in Iron horse meadow field. Saw the funny side just after finishing putting our awning up and realised the 'iron horse' is a railway line just behind the fence! Train was noisy but you get used to it.

There was no playground as all the equipment had been removed. Only reason we wont return to this site is the challenging composting toilet. Lucky on the one hand to be at site during a really hot week unlucky when you have composting toilet.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Crossways Caravan Club site. We stayed, along with my Mum in her Motorhome, in The Dell and my two boys (7 & 10) spent hours in the trees cycling and climbing about.

I was a little worried having read some reports and reviews, about the toilets, but having now experienced them I would like to set everyone's mind at rest. They do not smell at all. They are no smellier than any other toilets I have ever used. The only slightly strange thing is not having to flush!

There are a couple of comments I would like to make though. Firstly think carefully about where you pitch - if you use site facilities bear in mind that toilets and wash basins are situated a distance away from the shower blocks, and as there are only two toilet blocks and two shower blocks on this quite expansive site, you could have a fair distance to run in the rain in the middle of the night (if you know what I mean!).

Secondly, I was quite surprised at how few showers there were. Considering the site has 120 pitches, there are only 6 showers for women and another 6 for men, split into two sets of three in the two separate shower blocks. With my basic maths I could see that even if there were only two people in each outfit on each pitch, there would be 240 people on site, and you can see how the shower queues can build up!

Next was the issue of cleanliness. In a week's stay I can only remember seeing the toilet block near to The Dell being closed for cleaning once. I know that they certainly weren't cleaned everyday as a stain on one particular toilet was there for several days. This is NOT acceptable and not a reflection of the excellent high standards I have come to expect from the Caravan Club.

Lastly - I would like to say we had a fab time and will most definitely consider using Crossways if we are ever in Dorset again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to several caravanning friends and family members.

The site covers a very large area, but is split into a number of different enclosures. You can choose from open grassy fields with about 15 or so pitches, to woodland groves with just 6 pitches or less.

At the entrance to the site, there is a Texaco filling station with a very well stocked shop and off-licence. (Use this as a marker to help you find the site). There is also a nice pub just five minutes’ walk from the site, they do a wide choice of very good meals. Right by the pub is Moreton railway station, from there, you can catch fast, frequent trains to Weymouth, Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth, and we found it cheaper and quicker than taking the car. Recommended is Dorchester market on Wed. Mornings.

This site is a haven for wildlife, we were thrilled to see baby rabbits grazing close to our caravan, numerous squirrels in the trees around us and even a frog in our awning, imagine our surprise when a deer came round in the evenings. Conventional barbecues are forbidden on this site due to the fire risk.

The famous composting toilets deserve a mention: I never use site toilets myself as we prefer our own facilities. However, I did investigate them out of curiosity: The toilet blocks are modern brick buildings. As well as toilets, there are sinks in cubicles for a strip wash. (As mentioned in other reviews, the showers are in separate blocks some distance away)

The toilet itself looks like a conventional toilet pan, upon opening the lid, one sees a large oval opening with nothing but darkness below, and there was no smell at all. I think these (water saving) toilets are part of the future, well done Caravan Club for pioneering them at Crossways.

There were a few minor negatives, none of which bothered us: There was some noise from the main road and railway line which were adjacent to the site. There was also some faint noise from a nearby quarry.

Mobile phones only worked in a few parts of the site, there was no TV reception and satellite reception would be extremely limited due to the very tall trees covering most of the site. However, there was TV hook-up provided on the EHU posts.

Stayed at this site for three nights at first felt it may be to far from any amenities but soon changed our minds.

The site itself was clean and the wardens were very pleasant and helpful. The site itself was set it a valley with the only downfull being the train track running along the boundary and the horn going off hourly due to the level crossing. However, even as I am a very light sleeper it didn't run all through the night so it didn't disturb me to much. As the station was only a few mins from the site we used it a lot taking our bikes on it (for free) and travelling to Poole, Weymouth and Dorchester to explore.

I didn't use the loos or showers but went in and didn't find them too offensive

Have just come back from a long weekend at this CC site and have to say left with mixed feelings. If you don't like kids, don't go in the holiday period as they run riot, with plenty of places for them to run, cycle and cause a disturbance in the woods behind pitches.

The site itself is beautiful, with big pitches in a lovely setting. The wardens are very friendly and keep the place very tidy. The only downfall (and the reason we wont be returning) is the toilets / shower blocks. Not only are the toilets and showers in different areas on the site, the eco toilets smell very bad. Perhaps it was the heat but the 3 times that I dared venture to the toilets the smell, even before you lift the pan lid was almost unbearable

The showers were also small (3 cubicles) and not up to the usual standard we have experienced at other CC sites. If they went back to a large conventional combined toilet / shower block arrangement they would have one of the top sites, but until then.

Just spent a night at this site and loved it. The wardens were friendly and helpful and the site is beautifully kept. 35 acres of woodland and grass, some of the pitches are set it quiet little places and some on larger fields. It's quirky. The eco loos took a bit of getting used to, but they are extremely efficient.

The site was fairly full, but it was quiet, the railway was not a problem. An abundance of wildlife and birds - we even had a robin come to visit.

Great site, will be back again soon.

Just returned from the first weekend of the caravanning year, having not visited this site for three years. The wardens were very helpful, cheerful and friendly. The site was immaculate, no cobwebs lurking in corners. The pitches were roomy, (and we own a large twin axle caravan) there are fewer pitches than there used to be. The trains didn't bother us, they aren't that frequent, and the fact that a train into Weymouth is on your doorstep is a plus. Looking forward to our next visit.

Having just spent three nights at this site I can honestly say that it's not up to the usual high standards of the Caravan Club. Most of the pitch markers were out of the ground making it difficult to locate the exact location of the pitch. As others have said the toilets leave a lot to be desired. I was taken back 45 years to the Scouts with just a hole in the ground! The tube leading to the underground composting area was encrusted,(apparently the ladies loo was the same) although there was no smell I fail to see that this can be hygienic.

Another strange thing is that the toilet blocks and the shower blocks were separate! Those not wishing to use onboard facilities but would like a shower in the morning would need to walk to the toilet block for teeth cleaning and to use the loo and then to walk some distance for a shower. Why?

Food prep and washing up areas were like a wildlife haven for spiders and flies.

The very close proximity of the railway made the site very noisy all day and for a lot of the night, not only with the actual trains but also with the level crossing with the warning bells. The TV was non existent and the radio reception was equally disappointing. On the plus side the local pub was very good.

First visit out with our new to us caravan. Found site to be very poor, wardens not very helpful and pitch sizes very small.A few members I spoke to said they would be writing to the Caravan Club to complain about the site, as we had previously had a lot of rain and a lot of pitches were waterlogged and should really have been closed.
Shower block near wardens office in desperate need of a good clean. Site within close proximity to lots of nice places to visit, Crossways with 2 shops and mobile fish and chips about 10 mins walk.
