An interesting site set in woodland with a snaking roadway connecting the pitches set in separate clearings. The site itself is rather 'tired' and really could do with upgrading. Pitches are prone to waterlogging and the approaches to each area can be churned up after rain. Hardstandings would benefit this site. Toilets are composting type and these and the showers require upgrading. Wardens are helpful and friendly. There is no children's playground but the woods seem to offer a satisfactory alternative.
The site is in easy reach of Weymouth and the coast. The nearby rail station can be used to access Dorchester and Weymouth. A well stocked general store is situated at the site entrance.

Overall this is a pleasant site set in an old quarry with many wooded glades in which to pitch. However,in my opinion, it doesn't meet the usually high caravan club site standards. We arrived on a typical rainy day in August after a week of sunshine & showers to find a mostly waterlogged site. After driving round a couple of times to find a couple of reasonably dry ie. Not muddy pitches, we gave up & pitched up on the least squelchy pitches we could find that weren't directly under trees. By the end of a week in which we had 2 full day's rain, the field was waterlogged, our breathable groundsheet flooded and our awning unusable. The entrance to each camping area was carved up by cars and I ran out of clothes for my son aged 3 as he kept falling over every time he went out of the awning. The site would benefit from all hardstanding pitches as the rabbits keep the grass very short and drainage is so poor.
Other criticisms include:
Showers & toilets not in the same building which is inconvenient.
Utility buildings unwelcoming with cobwebs lurking in the corners.
No playground for children.
We had a lovely holiday as the surrounding area is stunning. Weymouth & Swanage are great seaside resorts and Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door were spectacular on a sunny day. Also, the train is only a 3 minute walk away which you can use to travel the local area at a reasonable price (£3.30 adult return to Dorchester).

As new campervan owners we wanted somewhere fairly quiet, but not too distant from local amenities, to try our new baby out. Although the oldest van on the site, 1992 vintage, we were met at the wardens lodge like old friends by a very helpful staff, complete with doggy friend. The site was extremely well laid out offering quite nooks and crannies or more open spaces that you could take your pick of, then just let the warden know where you had parked. Toilet blocks and showers were very clean and not crowded at any time. The site itself was very clean no rubbish or litter at all and a nice dog walk for the third member of our family he loved it. The site shop was at the entrance to the site in a garage but not inconvenient and a great pub just 5 minutes walk away was very good . The railway station was 5 minutes away as well and we took the advantage to go into Dorchester a couple of times, only £3 return. Great site will definitely go again.

This was our first holiday with the caravan - it was fantastic and I don't think it has anything to do with Rosy Tinted Sepctacles! This site is perfect for children, my son was 13 and my daughter was 11 and they agree it remains one of their favourite holidays. The site is very interesting and a pleasure to walk around. There is a pub/hotel next door between this site and the nearby Camping and Caravanning site, which was ok but a little pricey we thought. We didn't really find there was much else nearby if you like to take a walk (we like to have a wander into nearby villages) although the village is closeby it's not really 'quaint'. We enjoyed a few nice days at Weymouth and even visited the famous Monkeyworld. My favourite place by far was Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, well worth the visit.

Visited this site during school summer holidays. Beautiful site in lovely surroundings. Plenty of wildlife for the children to spot and plenty of land for them to explore.
TV poor but if you place booster through free view picture acceptable.
Staff very happy and helpful, site facilities cleaned regularly throughout day, good information centre.
Composting toilets very clean and acceptable! Once you get past the thought of no flush you will be fine.
Plenty of places to visit in Weymouth and Dorchester. Monkey world approx 20 minutes away
Excellent site that I would recommend

We stayed at this site in main August holiday weeks.
The site was hidden from the main road and we drove straight past, finding somewhere to turn was not that easy.
We were sited on a Disabled pitch in one of the lower fields. The pitch was very nice and quiet with good spacings between vans.
The 'Famous' composting toilets were different to say the least, but once the feeling of 'I've forgotten to flush' passed the benefits could be understood.
The site wardens were really good and knew not only all about the site but the surrounding area as well.
The bins and toilets were cleaned and serviced regular as clockwork to a very high standard.
Sadly for us there was not enough to do for a Disabled person and travelling to the surrounding towns became a chore.
To sum up a lovely clean site in a woodland setting but too much tiring travelling for us.

We stayed here for a week in September, I was disappointed as it was out of school holidays at just how noisy and crowded the site was. Very little gap between caravans, if you add cars to the mix your awning is looking out onto next door's car. When we arrived the reception staff were very grumpy, I think because it was the end of the season and with it being a forest environment sunlight was limited and it was quite dark. However, the facilities were usual caravan club standard very clean although the dry toilets take some getting used too I can't complain, rubbish was collected twice a day and there is a shop/off licence right outside the door, and plenty to visit in the vicinity.

We visited this site during Whitsun week, and found it to be one of the best Caravan Club sites that we have been to. Firstly the location is ideal, just 10 mins drive to Weymouth or Dorchester, a little further afield is Wareham and Swanage. The site is next to a quarry and the main railwayline but the noise isn't too intrusive, just the warning bell from the level crossing to wake up the most fervent insomniacs.
Although it was Whitsun week the site was very quiet even though it was full, and the Woodland setting is wonderful, plenty of wildlife and a lovely dawn chorus. The garage next door has a minimart and sells everything you need. All the facilities were up to the usual CC standards. However there are one or two points to bear in mind. The site is set in Forrestry Commision land so there is a very strict no naked flame policy, i.e no BBQs or even Cadacs or Cobs, cooking is for inside the caravan only.
The pitches are not the usual huge CC size, mainly because of the forest setting, but there is still room for all. Because of the Forest setting, some of the pitches can be quite shaded so you may need your heater even in summer, especially on North facing pitches.
Tv reception is poor, but the EHUs have hookup. The toilets are of the dry compost type and take some getting used to, all children need to be accompanied because the holes are big and have a long drop.
The Farrington Arms pub a short walk away is not particularly child friendly in my opinion. The gardens and play area are excellent but if you want to eat you are relegated to the games room with a much reduced menu. (chips with everything etc).
All in all these are points to bear in mind and are not negatives, the site really is fine, will definitely revisit soon.
