Although we enjoyed our stay, mainly due to the glorious weather and walks along the canal with our dog, we felt there were certain rules for newcomers (us) and not for campers who obviously knew the management. The site did seem very clicky.
After the good reviews on the food in The Barge Inn we were disappointed with lunch and dinner. Such a shame as the campsite is in an ideal location.

Had a ball at the Barge Campsite. It is busy but has a great friendly atmosphere and the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly.
Great for kids too as a nice family atmosphere and play area. The pub is swerving drinks outside currently and also had a good atmosphere with the narrow boat residents, locals and campers all getting on well together.
The food is served from outside catering van at the moment too due to the covid restrictions, it was basic but good quality, well cooked and local sourced ingredients.
Would recommend if you like an atmosphere, do not mind some noise into the night and do not want somewhere quiet.
We will go again.

Clean, well organised, the site was perfect with impromptu entertainment. Local produce available.
Canal provides amble opportunities for walking etc.

As other reviewers have said it did feel like a friendly campsite and is in a beautiful spot. Some reviewers call this site “laid back” but this seems to be shorthand for playing music and talking loudly until 3am with no regard for anyone else. Knackered parents, steer clear. Thanks God there is a “no drums” rule at least.
The site felt way too crowded in these days of social distancing and our large party was allocated a space that wasn’t really big enough. Certainly no space around us for the kids to play games.
Covid safety was encouraged with lots of posters but impossible with such limited toilet facilities. Not helped by the fact that by Saturday morning one toilet had a door missing and one was blocked with vomit.
Left after one night with huge bags under eyes. Not my idea of a laid back camp site.

Not good. It was like the last days of Rome or the very worst part of Glastonbury. There was no social distancing, no cleaning in evidence, no curfew. The party went on until gone 2am but even by then there were so many people staggering around the worse for drink it was like a zombie apocalypse movie.
Had booked for 2 nights, but left after 1, wish I had left earlier.
The main field is soaking wet, I picked the larger field, which was thankfully further away from the late night nonsense and mess.
The toilet & shower facilities looked recently updated, but had been damaged and signs everywhere not to steal toilet roll, so yes, all toilet rolls had been taken. The showers worked.
Its location is amazing, but it I couldn't recommend anyone stayed there.

One of our favourite campsites for the reasons that have been given in the last two reviews. So glad it's back up and running. We've been back twice since the campsite reopened.
The site is much improved, as others have said. Dylan is doing a great job as campsite manager and has got things well organised and couldn't be more helpful.
The campsite has been extended to include the old 'overflow' field in part of the adjacent field. There are now also a few EHU points (though these have to be booked and get snapped up quickly). The new managers have put in a fair bit of land drainage to help with the ground conditions and are talking about adding a few hard standings to make the campsite suitable all year round.
The 'facilities' are much improved and there is also a new portacabin with loos and a shower in addition to the new facilities in the barn.
For children the old swing in the trees has sadly gone but there is a new climbing frame and and outdoor table tennis table to keep them occupied.
They are installing 5 bell tents for rent for those who haven't got their own accommodation (one already up and in use).
The new owners have worked really hard to get the pub back up and running as it should be and their hard work seems to be paying off judging by how busy it has been both times we've been there. The food and drink offerings in the pub are excellent.
As said this would not be a site for you is you like the quiet structured campsite but if you like a bit of life and/or have got a big group of friends who want to have a meet up without having a lot of rules imposed it's the place for you.

YES, it’s back. Blimey those two years were hard work without this campsite!
I agree it is not every bodies cup of tea, but this place is perfect in my mind.
Chilled, great location, pub that does great food at a reasonably price and all that Wiltshire has to offer on the doorstep.
The toilets are now in the extended side of the pub and there are two toilets and two showers, and these are free to use, always clean and plenty of hot water. There is a washing up sink available and the use of a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The pub is great and it attracts all sorts, who are the nicest people you could meet, from the people on the boats to those camping, everyone gets along and the place runs with a coolness that is just hard to find elsewhere.
Dogs are welcome, but must be kept of a lead, the warden will moan if you are spotted without your four legged friend being leashed.
BBQ’s and fires are actively encouraged and they can sell you the wood, or if you prefer they have a communal fire at weekends for all to mingle and enjoy.
It is £8 per adult per night and dogs go free, and at that price, this is a place I will keep coming back to.

My favourite campsite is back! So pleased to see the Barge reopened as a proper pub, and at last with the camping field reopened.
And it's much better than ever, they now have nice clean and new toilets and showers inside the refurbished barn. There's a washing machine too. They've installed a few hookups, and these seemed popular so you may need to book early to get one.
Location wise of course is unchanged and fab. Site is at the back of the pub ( great food and excellent live music by the way ) and alongside the canal, which means you can walk for miles along the towpath in either direction.
Cost was £8 per night per adult. No charge for the dog. Can't remember what the hookup was as didn't use it, but have a feeling it was relatively expensive. Price wise though overall this site is a bargain.
The best thing about this site is simply it's laid back chilled out atmosphere. It may not be for everyone, but if you're a hippy at heart you'll love it! I do !

Fantastic atmosphere at this site
We stay at all types and this is at the other end of the spectrum from Caravan Club sites.
A breath of fresh air, a bit rough at the edges, but a work in progress. It was abandoned for while, now being brought
Back to life by Dylan.
Don't come here if you want allocated pitches, 10 o'clock curfews, hardstandings, but if you want a bit of fun, with every type of camper and every type of camping outfit imaginable, this could be the place.
The site is at the back of the very charismatic Barge inn, bordered by the picturesque Kennet and Avon canal. Music on every weekend, very much a festival atmosphere.
Spoke to lots of interesting people over the 4 days we were there, can't wait to go back
