We were booked on this site for 8 nights, just at the start of the high season. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. All pitches are on hardstanding and we were on part of the site which had fantastic open views of the surrounding hills in most directions. The shower blocks had just had a full refurbishment and were absolutely immaculate and spotless! The site appeared to be very well run and looked after.
The site is only 5 minutes walk from Hawes, a busy little market town in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, with a number of great little shops, pubs and coffee shops - most were dog friendly too! There is so much to do in the area too, Wensleydale Cheese factory, Dentdale, Hardraw Force, Tan Hill Inn (Highest pub in Great Britain), Aysgarth Falls, Swaledale, Wensleydale, Semer Water etc etc to name a few attractions / places to go. You are spoilt for choice!
All in all, a fantastic site with immaculate facilities in a great location with lots to do nearby! You certainly won't regret staying here!

Arrived in an unseasonal heatwave, and the site was packed. Despite this we had a choice of nice pitches.
Staff friendly, and impressed by the organisation, cleanliness and pleasant atmosphere.
This is dog heaven, and watching the parade of happy pooches and owners heading for the large dog walking area was enjoyable.
When the summer heat turned into an evening thunderstorm, we appreciated the site drainage. We didn't see so much as a puddle once the deluge ceased.
Plenty to do in the area, and my hubby regretted not bringing his rods, as fishing is available on site.
I'm hoping to return!

We recently had a nine day stay at this site. We had one of the new fully serviced pitches. There are only ten of them and are situated just behind reception. The pitch itself was the usual caravan club size with plenty of room for caravan, car and awning. It is an unusual layout for a CC site, no barrier and reception in the centre of the site. The amenities block is now dated and I think needs a refurb, although kept clean. It is also a long way to walk from the fully serviced pitches. This was difficult for my 85 year old mum who couldn't use her scooter to get to shower block because there were no dropped kerbs and the speed bumps were too big for her little scooter to go over. She used the disabled bathroom and found the layout good although again very dated. Having said that the site is lovely and in the nicest of places. Hawes has lots of pubs, tea rooms etc and the fish and chips were brilliant. Lots to see and do, we visited the creamery, the forbidden corner, aysgarth falls, Hardraw.

Visited the Dales for the first time in October 2015. Chose this site because of the walks in the area and weren't disappointed. A great location 5 minutes walk from the village of Hawes with plenty pubs and shops. Only a Spar for general groceries but adequate with a good stock of local pies, sausages etc. All pubs are dog friendly and very welcoming. There's a Chinese and Indian takeaway in the village although we didn't use them. Some of the previous reviews on trip advisor weren't to complimentary!
The site itself was by good. Friendly staff and reception stocked some essentials like milk etc. £94 for five nights was very reasonable. No charge for awnings, dogs etc. The dog walk on site was the best we've seen and would be enough for smaller breads without leaving the site at all. The walks around the village and neighbouring Askrigg, , Aysgarth were brilliant. Reception sold a small leaflet which gave clear instructions for several walks nearby.
Wifi was a bit patchy to begin with but got better after the second day. TV signal is poor but there's plug in ariel point at each hook up post which gives a decent range of free view channels. £15 for a 25m ariel lead available from reception. Toilets up to the usual caravan club standard.
Following the recommended directions from the north, off at jct 40 down the A66 to Brough then to Kirkby Stephen and down a B road to Hawes meant some fairly narrow roads especially from Kirkby Stephen to Hawes. No centre lines and a bit of bother if meeting any larger vehicles especially if like us your caravan is 8ft wide! Would recommend a visit to Malham Cove if you're in the area and its a nice drive over the moors to get there. Lastly if your on Vodafone you'll struggle to get a signal on the site although fine when out and about.

First time we have visited this site but it will not be the last! Arrived and warmly welcomed by the wardens. After some debate about whether our TT would fit on a non-awning pitch (it's hard to visualise that it extends to 4 times it's travelling size) we selected one on the river side of the site. All facilities were clean and well kept and the shop provided a good selection of essentials. There is an information room with a payphone next to the shop. The site is well situated for walking in the surrounding area, we only needed to use the car once during a 6 day stay which was a pleasant change.
Hawes itself is a pleasant 10 mins walk from the site and has two banks and a variety of shops, pubs and cafe/restaurants. A particular favourite of our was the Wensleydale Pantry which is situated above the spar shop in the main street. They offer a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks and prices are very reasonable. Be warned, the portions are generous so make sure you are hungry!
Places of interest include the national park visitor centre at the old railway station which has an impressive display of local life and work. Next door is a rope factory (entrance free) where you can see different types and sizes of rope being produced and displays explaining some of the history of the company. There is also a shop where some of the goods have been made on the premises, including a huge variety of dog leads. Wensleydale creamery is worth a visit, although when we went building work prevented tours of the factory itself. The Victorian saw mill at Gayle was quite interesting but the admission feels a bit pricey for what there is.

It's odd but nobody has reviewed this site since my last review in September 2014 and it seems a very popular site, however.
This is our third visit to this site, Springtime instead of Autumn. We still think it is an outstanding site.
As stated before if this is your first visit up there please take time to enjoy the run in, it's beautiful.
As usual you get a warm and helpful welcome from the wardens. They let us choose our own pitch which was nice. The site is split down the middle by a site road with the facilities on one side. We were on the other side but it doesn't cause any inconvenience.
This is a C. C. Site so everything is clean and tidy with the showers and lavatory block kept as immaculate as they wardens can manage, despite best efforts of some caravanners.
There is a games room, a small drying room, a large dog walk, a local information room and the reception sells bread and will order a newspaper if required. They also post a weather forecast in the window.
There does seem to be a variation in pitch size depending on what you are bringing. We were quite happy with a pitch for car, caravan and awning. I believe all pitches have ehu. There is a one-way system on site which you should observe but it's not difficult.
An easy 10 minute walk gets you into Hawes itself and it's a lovely place. As you leave the site, before you get to Hawes you'll see a small industrial site on the right hand side. Go in and look at a shop called I think “The Goodlife”. Interesting place with a wide variety of goods and displayed in a way you may not be used to. The Boss bought most of our fruit and veg here because of the quality.
Hawes itself has Crocketts, a butchers and bakers both good. There is an early morning newsagents, Spar, chippie, sweetie shop, three outdoor shops and shed loads of pubs, restaurants and cafes.
If you're happy with simple, plain homecooked food the try the Wensleydale Pantry above the spar shop. But make sure you're hungry.
The creamery in Gale, the local museum and the ropery are all worth your time.
If you're looking at this site chances are you're a walker, if so you're spoiled for choice. There are several great day walks locally so no need of the car. Also plenty of walks
Within a reasonable distance. There's masses of walking books sold locally with an O. S. Map and Garmin worthwhile investments. We were blessed with great weather once again
So it was boots and rucksacks most days.
All in all a great location. We will certainly be back. You can even hear the sea-lions at night.

A wonderful setting for a caravan site with easy short walk access into the town of Hawes and beautiful scenery and great walks all around the area. The usual Caravan Club very high standard of facilities and friendly wardens. The only negative was the high number of barking dogs, especially over the weekend. The barking was constant throughout the day and we were also subjected to a dog barking at 4am on two nights.

This is our second visit to this site and again it impresses.
If you're approaching from the west, M6, direction do try and take in and enjoy the run in, it's really lovely, especially if you've not been in this area before.
A lovely welcome from the very helpful wardens. This is a C. C. Site so everything is spic and span.
Site clean and tidy, lavatories and showers kept immaculate as you would expect. Even the views from the site are superb.
There is a quite large dog walk, a games room, a good local information room, a small drying room, the shop in reception sells a few bits and the wardens post a weather forecast in the window.
In my last review I whined about the variation in pitch sizes and allocation of units to pitches, i. E.
Small units on massive pitches and us squeezing onto a small pitch. Happy to say this seems to have been resolved.
A 10/15 walk gets you into Hawes itself and it really is a lovely village.
There is a butchers, Crockett s, which we used a lot. Excellent quality meat and beautiful sausages. On the other side of the same shop they are a baker, again excellent quality bread and rolls and lovely cakes. (Oh I do like cakes me. )
There is also an early morning newsagents, a spar, a good chippie (smashing chips), a nice sweetie shop and loads of restaurants and cafés. Also, as you approach the bridge look for an outdoor shop then directly opposite is a tiny takeaway which I think was called Hodgsons – on the hoof. The guy in there makes the greatest quiches, pies and cakes. We used them a lot on walking days for our picnics. Also you really ought to look in Elijah Allen and Son. Some really great stuff in there with a nice little deli at the back.
Another of our favourites was the Wensleydale Pantry which is above the Spar shop. They do plain good quality meals. Huge portions and fair prices. This is well worth a visit or five.
Up at Gale is the Wensleydale Creamery which makes the cheese. You can watch the cheese being made, have free tasters of about 20 cheeses, buy any you like, have a meal in one of their feederies then buy some goodies from the shop.
Also worth a visit is the local museum, a lot bigger than you think and very interesting, and nearby the rope-makers.
Obviously the main attraction of this area will be the walking. We were very lucky with the weather and did quite a lot. There are far too many to mention but you will find there are quite a lot you can do locally without using the car. Great Shunner Fell and Wetherfell are both near the site. A few, minutes with the O. S. Maps will show you loads more, some less strenuous, around the village.
All in all a great place to visit. You can even hear the sea-lions at night.

Booked this site after speaking to a couple of friends who had visited. What a lovely site, it is quite big but it doesn't feel it. The shop sells bits and bats - not sure what as we came prepared so did not look round it. The facilities are usual cc standard, not that big for the size of the site. That said I never had to wait for a shower. The dog field/walk is great and a bonus - be careful by the gate as it can be slippy if it's been raining my husband slipped and fell. The village is within walking distance and has lovely shops, dog friendly pubs and cafes and the creamery which is a must.
Just out of the site over the road to the left there is a gate if you go through the gate and follow the path along the river it brings you to Hardraw & the Green Dragon pub. The Hardraw Falls can be found behind the pub - lovely and only £2. 50 each to visit. We had planned to go to Ingleton Falls but as my husband was in a lot of pain we will save that for next time.
Had a drink in the Crown Hotel, dog friendly and good beer, also had a chippy on the Saturday night chips were ok the fish was fab, the queue was outside the shop so it must be very popular.
We drove to the site via the M6 the A684, have to say its scary in parts as it is narrow and people do fly down it but as long as you take it easy it fine. All in all a lovely site in a great area

We've been visiting this site since the 1970's and although it has changed it never fails to please. It is now a well-equipped and well-run site and is within easy walking distance of Hawes, a delightful and largely unspoilt Dales town with some traditional shops and plenty of pubs and cafes.
It is a great centre for exploring the Dales on foot or by car.
