Booked this site for a two dat stop over, what a nice site, clean and tidy.
There is an indoor and outdoor seating area, they serve basic hot food and there is a bar, both food and drink are available from 19:00 and served in or outside.
The owners are Irish and this means a good sense of humour and a warm welcome to all.
Later in the evening he played light hearted music for all the people sheltering the rain that decided to arrive at the worst time. This was like no other camp site I have ever been on. We laughed till it hurt.
We will be back next year for a longer stay this time.
Also well placed for a trip to the Bayeux and the tapestry.

We stayed here for one night before our ferry crossing from Caen, it is approximately 45 minutes to the ferry from the site.
Absolutely beautiful site which is well cared for, generous pitches, there are plenty of hedges and trees for shade.
Very friendly and helpful, English site owner, basic facilities but there is everything you need including clothes washing facility.
There is a bar on site which serves snacks from 7-9 pm, eg pizza, chicken nuggets, chips, flan etc, we ate there to save cooking and it was well prepared with generous helpings

This must be one of my favourite campsites. Large grassy pitches and friendly owners. Stayed here with a tent several years ago and returned this year with a caravan.
An ideal site for exploring Normandy. Convenient for the ferries from Cherbourg and Caen. A few local shops in the village, large supermarkets about 6 miles away, though you can place a daily bread order with the campsite owner.
Normandy has lots to see, including the Bayeux Tapestry, William the Conqueror's birthplace at Falais castle, beaches, etc.

We found Camping La Puits 3 years ago when we were looking for somewhere to store our caravan for 3 weeks in the Normandy area. Since then we have visited the campsite each year.
It is an ideal stopover site if you are travelling south from Caen, Le Havre or Cherbourg being just off the A84.
St Martin is a little village but it does have a very interesting museum for anyone interested in the 1939-45 war, the museum telling the story of a tank battle which occurred around the town following the D Day landings.
The owners try to cater for all needs even providing bed and breakfast services for those who do not travel with their own accommodation.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this site to anyone who likes travelling through France as we do

We had stayed here in previous years and enjoyed overnight stays. Good basic clean facilities, easy access, good pitches so for us ideal stopover hence booking overnight stay en route back to tunnel.
Arrived in wet conditions later than planned (6. 45pm) to find the pitch we'd been allocated (informed of pitch no. By email) roped off along with a lot of other pitches so husband reversed into another open pitch whilst I went to see if I could find owners to check pitch details.
Couldn't find owner initially so returned to van to wait, only to be confronted by owner within 5 minutes and challenged and questioned about why I hadn't just lifted the rope and gone onto the pitch we'd been allocated. I was left upset and distressed by this but decided to pitch the van and depart early the next morning for our tunnel which wasn't scheduled until later the following evening. If we hadn't have been so tired from long journey & having already paid for the pitch when booking some months earlier we would not have stayed. Maybe we caught them on an off day but won't risk it again.

Management response: Please note this campsite is under new ownership with effect from December 2018. Previous reviews refer to the previous management and facilities.
Since their arrival at the campsite in December 2018, they have not stopped with the updates and new areas.
The first item that was a must was a totally new shower and toilet area. A all new area was chosen for its central location and we wanted to make the showers a talking point and installed rain shower heads with a good generous flow of hot water. It was important that we had a larger family/disabled washroom too
"The Old Bar and Kitchen" was gutted and totally rebuilt then inside the existing buildings. The bar was made to look clean and modern but still in keeping with a Normandie barn feel. The kitchen was doubled in size and all new cooking equipment installed.
The games room totally new refreshed with a Normandie look. Gone has the red parachute material and replaced with white walls and exposed dark wood beams. Now it looks clean and good enough to used by all age groups again. Inside you will find a pool table, dart board, table football, a small lending library of books. |

We had a one night stay at this delightful camping site. We found the owner Peter to be very helpful and friendly making sure we had all we needed and explained where all the facilities were.
Clean and tidy showers and toilets all set in beautifully kept surroundings. We enjoyed a pleasant evening in the courtyard bar where 'large' beers and a wine were consumed along with musical entertainment provided by Peter.
Would love to visit again.

We stayed at this site for 3 nights. The location is fine for visiting the Normandy beaches - just a bit of a drive. The proximity to the A84 makes it a good stop-over.
The site is lovely with the exception of the 'enhanced' pitches. Unfortunately these look over the caravan storage area so that the wonderful view is completely spoiled. We did talk to the owner about this but he did not agree that this constituted an eye-sore.
He did not offer us an alternative pitch and as we were only there for 3 nights we didn't pursue the matter. We just kept the blinds down! However, considering the cost of the site - we did not think this was acceptable.
The toilet block is very small (only 2 ladies and 1 gents shower) but this was not a problem when we stayed as the site was very quiet. They were always clean but not the best that we've used.
My advice: avoid the enhanced pitches and ask to see your pitch before you pay as it is made very clear in the office that there are no refunds!

Just returned from a 3 week stay at this beautiful, peaceful campsite in the heart of Normandy. It is conveniently situated for visiting the D day beaches and memorials to the north and west and the countryside of the Suisse Normande to the south.
The pitches are large and well maintained and have lovely views over the surrounding countryside. The toilet and washing facilities are always in immaculate condition and there is plenty of hot water.
You will receive a warm welcome from Peter and Fran who will give you advice about local attractions. In the evenings you can enjoy a drink and tasty snacks at the cosy bar.
The village of St Martin des Besaces is in walking distance and there you will find a small supermarket, a baker, butcher, florist and general store. There is also a very interesting war museum.
We look forward to our next visit.

We planned to use this site as a stopover on the way to the car ferry at Cherborg but stayed on as a mini-break before heading home. This is an exceptionally well organised and friendly site. Very clean showers and toilets and the whole of the grounds are beautifully tended and organised. We particularly enjoyed meeting other guests over a pint and bar snack at the on-site cosy bar. Very good draught beer.
We visited the local towns and villages and were lucky enough to spend a day at the huge Vide Grenier a few miles away. A very enjoyable break and a fast simple journey to Cherbourg. We will certainly stay again if travelling this route.

This is a lovely site, well positioned to visit Bayeux and Mont St Michel. Large pitches in a beautiful setting. Very clean shower facilities. Very friendly owners. St Martin des Besaces itself is very small and there is little to see there, but it does have a handy little shop and is an easy walk from the site.
