We have just returned from a lovely stay at this delightful campsite. We pitched by the river. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and basic, loads of hot water in the shower. There is also a pot wash area. We never had to queue, not even on Saturday morning. There are fire pits available and logs for sale in the shop. Electric hook up was available, but not by the river. No mobile signal for miles.

The owners are friendly, booking in was simple and quick and the price seemed very reasonable. There is a small shop, we treated ourselves to slices of fruit cake to eat by the tent. Very good.

The surrounding area is beautiful, loads of interesting walks. The river is the star of the show with beautiful waterfalls and river banks covered in wild flowers. The village has a pub which serves food, and there are loads of pretty villages a short drive away.

We will definitely visit again.

Two adults, two kids (aged 15 & 12) plus dog, Gelert Bliss 4 & EHU.

The location of this site is stunning; the views are amazing and there's ample of walks directly from the site, or if you prefer to laze the days away you can whilst dipping your toes in the river every so often! Lots of waterfalls around the site/area and campfires to be had.

The facilities are basic but always clean. Even on Spring Bank Holiday weekend we didn't have to queue. There's a couple of public toilets next to the top camping field where the EHU points are and then I think three toilets in total along with 2 free hot showers (no pushing of buttons!) through the village closer to the other camping fields. Here you will also find a couple of sinks for washing up. There is a small shop/café where you can grab some basic provisions but we did find this quite expensive!

The total cost for all of us including EHU was £45; we stayed for 2 nights over bank holiday weekend - a refreshing change from the usual 3 night minimum stay a lot of sites seem to go with. Very fairly priced & we weren't packed in like sardines.

Customer service was great. Booked in at the shop/café & then left to it.

If your children like entertainment in the form of Mother Nature then they will love it here - grass to play on, waterfalls to watch, river to paddle in, a camp fire on an evening and peace & quiet after dark. If however they are looking for entertainment requiring a mobile signal then forget it - there is no signal within 4 miles of the site.

Without a doubt 10/10 from us and can't wait to return!

We stayed at Park lodge in September 2014 for 2 nights, we stayed in the top field and loved this site. The view we woke up to was stunning. We had a couple of lovely walks the first one, a 6 mile circular walk to Muker and the second one was a 10 mile circular walk to the Tan Hill pub,

The site toilet and showers are a short walk through the village of about 150 yard, they were well kept and very spacious with plenty of hot water.

Me and my wife disagree on a couple of things: firstly she thinks the toilets could do with a dawn to dusk light for any one using them in the middle of the night, I think, your in the middle of the Yorkshire dales, take a torch and don't put lights up everywhere. There is a couple of street lights as you walk through the village so not too bad,

The second thing we disagreed on was we had Limited radio signal, no Phone or Tv signal. I thought it was great, Wendy hated not having tv. The family were very friendly and welcoming.

Finally the midges was quite bad mainly at dusk, we weren't prepaird for them but this wouldn't put us off going back with our Midge spray, hopefully this year to do the nine standards walk to kirkby Stephen

I have stopped at this camp site a number of times but so far have never taken the time to submit a review.

The location is excellent with a mix of riverside, woodland and open field camping.

Top Field – I have never used as it is quite undulating and level pitches are rare.

Middle Field – Smaller (much) than the top field but level and closer to showers etc than the riverside. Midges also aren’t such a problem here.

Riverside – As you would expect the midges also like the riverside, and it can get a bit damp underfoot. It can also be noisy when the river is swollen after it has rained. (A smoky camp fire sorts the midges out and ear plugs assist with sleep.

The site itself is always tidy and the toilet / washing up / shower facilities are clean and functional.

There is a small site shop/tea room which stocks the necessities and does light meals. All of which are reasonably priced.

As far as the area is concerned – it is the Yorkshire Dales – need I say more. Whether you go for the energetic or the more sedate activity, rain or shine it’s a lovely area to be in.

I’ve been many times before and will be many times in the future.

We arrived at this campsite after visiting 2 others in the area that were full. We decided on the highest field, and went for the flattest spot we could find to pitch 2 6 berth tents, one with a canopy, and space between to have camp and fire space. The weather was turning and the midges came in, and it was tough fighting them off. Our second car arrived after 2+ hours and in that time I gained 30 bites! The rain came, we stayed dry, the owners were so very helpful and brought us a fire pit on request, and they were patient and trusting for payment (£6 adult £3 child). They took care of the site marking off boggy sections, laying gravel to aid the cars to move. The midges were a one off and only bothered us once more on the final foggy morning. It is August after all and wherever you camp the midges will come!

The facilities were a walk away but the children managed easily to take them selves as the area was safe. An excellent site, we will go again.

Fantastic views and area. Great walks locally or further afield if wanted, low level, high level, medium level.

Two showers, plenty of toilets, hot water freely available.

Pitches are available by the river, mid levels and higher levels.

There were midges there however when we were there, so need lots of midge spray.

It is quite busy at weekends and may be a little noisy at times, but we were there for 3 nights so it was manageable for us.

Pitching away from the river is best to avoid the midges and large groups.

Having now used this site on 5 occasions it is obvious we like it. We have now stayed on each of the 3 camping fields and to be honest each one is as good as the next, most recently we stayed at the field nearest the center of the village which was great and had the most stunning views imaginable. We also ventured to the local hostelry this time ( Keld lodge ) the beer was good and meals were priced reasonably. A short walk brings you to some fantastic waterfalls which are dotted all over this area of the River Swale. Great place that I can not recommend highly enough. The bacon sandwiches and pot of tea in the sites cafe on a morning are just what the doctor ordered.

Stayed 5 nights in September with the wife and 2. 4 children.

There are loads of interesting things to do locally and the main towns are less than an hour away. There's a working farm nearby which the kids loved. Wensleydale cheese factory and the shops in Hawes are fantastic. The butcher in Hawes is brilliant.

The facilities are all perfectly adequate. Very clean and all fully functional. They'd obviously seen some usage (with us going a the end of the season) but we never had to queue or cross our legs once. Hot powerful showers and big changing areas.

The staff are very friendly and the little shop they have there is well stocked.

There is a parking area where you can walk down with your gear but you are allowed to drive right out onto the hillside which we did. Some of the track was a bit muddy and if you drive carefully then you won't get stuck (we found that one out the hard way).

The site itself is divided into two tiers. At the very top there is a farm on the road with sheep dogs (watching them was good fun). They barked sometimes in the morning and night but it wasn't an annoyance. The sounds of the river drowned out anything from the quiet road above us. Just below the farm there is a small slope onto a flat where we camped. Lots of fire pits and space for maybe 20-30 tents well spaced. There's then a very steep grassy slope which leads onto another flat of similar size down below which is right next to a fast-flowing river. There is a wall separating the river from the camp site and the road, so we were more then happy to let the children and dog roam. If you're backpacking - there's a nice spot RIGHT next to the river where we saw a couple of people camping in a small 2-man tent. Some people have said there's a fair walk from the site to facilities - I'm not sure about that. It not exactly a stones' throw but you can walk it in a couple of minutes.

The midges weren't terrible. You knew they were there but they left us alone most of the time. It was exceptionally wet and below zero degrees at times while we were there. We actually woke up to thick ice one morning so it can get VERY cold at night, pack an extra blanket if you're going in September!

My only gripe about the whole 5 days I spent there is the same reason why I enjoyed it so much and that is that it's in the middle of nowhere. Seriously. The roads (if you can call them that) are narrow and unforgiving so what should be a 20 minute drive to town takes closer to an hour with lots of ear-popping altitude and close calls. As a result, you will end up driving much slower and taking lots of wrong turns. That being said, every wrong turn takes you somewhere beautiful and you're going slow enough to enjoy it!

So, if you want somewhere quiet with nice things to do nearby and incredible scenery with enough facilities so that you don't need to dig your own hole, then find somewhere else. This is my secret haven and you're not invited.

We loved this campsite! We camped right next to the river just at the entrance of that field - decided the water was just too noisy at the other end. River was v high and fast which meant it wasn't safe to do much more than paddle at the edge. Would have been nervous if we'd had smaller kids. A fire every night which was fab and not too many midges. Toilet block not fancy but fine for us and lots of hot water. Campsite owner very friendly and shop sold all the essentials inc gas bottle. Lovely but rather muddy walk to Muker where we were pleased to find a pub with good pub grub and then a bus home! Not very frequent - it was 2.56 pm. All in all a fantastic site!

What a great place this proved to be. Facilities were good, with ample toilets, a couple of shower rooms and pot washing facilities and all were in good order and very clean.

The site itself has 3 fields, one on the riverbank which was an idyllic spot but we were told after some recent rain it was perhaps on the muddy side.

Another was a field in the centre of the village which had some great views and looked well maintained too, this was close to Keld Lodge, a pub / hotel that served food and drink and welcomed campers and walkers, although we did not use it so I cannot comment on what it was like.

We decided to use the upper field above the riverside pitches and it proved to be a great choice, stunning views and extremely quiet and tranquil. There were numerous firepits around the sites and logs can be bought from the on site shop a couple of minutes walk away.

All of the camping fields were very close to some stunning scenery that Swaledale is famous for, rolling hills, rivers and waterfalls.

Even the weather was favorable to us until the morning we left when it rained heavily while we were packing up but even then a quick change of clothes and a bacon butty and pot of tea in the campsite shop /cafe sorted the job out.

At £6 per person per night you could not ask for much more really and we certainly hope to visit again.
