This was our 1st camping trip and we chose this site because of the previous reviews, it lived up to all our expectations and more. Having your own campfire was great and owners very helpful, a small shop which sold everthing you might need wine, beer, etc. They also did bacon cobbs, toast etc. Two toilets and a shower washing up sink, hot water all the time. There was lots of midges which did bite but you got used to them lol a long walk up hill to toilets but that did not bother us. There was not anywhere for children to play on camping field next to river but there are two more fields on higher ground. From the car park there is a 10 mile circular walk which passes waterfalls fantastic views we did it and it was great the weather was warm and sunny. I cant believe how lucky we were I would go back to this camp tomorrow .

We decided at 6pm on Friday night that we were going camping! - so phoned and was told to come to the site and we would be able to pitch near the river so we could have a fire. This is not an 'all mod cons' site, but if you want to feel close to nature and can cope with basic but clean facilities, then this is the place for you!
The site is over 2 levels on a steep hill that leads down to the river (it was quite shallow when we were there). The lower level is where you can have a fire in the designated places on the ground. Our pitch was gorgeous, we sat right on the bank, cooking egg and bacon for breakfast, feeding the birds and listening to the river babble along! The site is small and quiet.
Unfortunately the levels mean that there is a considerably steep hill to climb to the toilets & shower block - takes a few minutes to get there and a bit of extra puff needed! However, although they are quite basic but they are very clean, tidy with handwash and towels (not paper) and plenty of hot water.
The owners were very kind and left us a bag of wood and kindling for our fire as they had to go out. We paid for the pitch and the wood on our departure which we thought was very trusting of them. They are very nice people and nothing seems too much trouble.
There is also a lovely little shop/coffee house in the farmhouse.
The only thing we would warn you to be prepared for at the lower level is the midgies! They are persistent & hungry - but we found good use of repellant was quite successful. We have since been told about Avon Skin So Soft product being the ultimate deterrent for midgies - 'google' it and see what comes up - it is fascinating - and we have bought some in bulk for future returns to this lovely site!

Wow, what a lovely place. Set up camp in the middle of nowhere- no mobile phone signal, how refreshing! A peaceful area by the riverside, no need to book, however the place did get very busy over the weekend. But still everyone respected each other. The toilets were clean and a fresh towel was put in regularly. Shower also had a new clean curtain and was very hot and powerful. The location allowed us to enjoy a walk along part of the Pennine Way, and see some lovely waterfalls, I would recommend this place to many - Just remember to take your insect repellant. Loads of midges!

We have just returned from Rukins and have had a wonderful time!
The site is very basic with only a few toilets and one shower (all very clean) which are at the top of the hill away from the lower field where we camped. This being said, the solitude we gained because of this was worth it. There were only 2 other tents in the field with us at any time!
The site lies along the river and is in a really beautiful spot - the pictures on their website don't do it justice. There are easy walks in both directions to a series of waterfalls and plenty of villages close by for any civilisation you may need!
There are plenty of 'fireplaces' along the river for you to have a campfire (big bags of wood available from the owners for £3) without scrching the grass.
The owners were very friendly and helpful and all in all it was a very pleasant few days.
Positives: Quiet location, beautiful scenery, campfires
Negatives: Bit of a walk to go to the loo!, facilities basic, lots of midgies (take your insect repellant), steep road down to lower field (may need to consider if you have a heavy car with a small engine!)

Lovely campsite. We were a party of 10 and there was no need to book. Gorgeous location by the river, the fact we could light a campfire was even better. £3 per bag of fire wood - excellent value. The only downside was all the flies! But nothing you can do about that, I guess they are attracted to the river.
Toilets were located at the top of the hill but is not a problem, just more exercise! Very relaxed, after 11pm we were advised to keep the noise down but not to silence. We will definitely be returning, highly recommended.

Lovely, friendly site. We set up overlooking the river swale. Campfires allowed over river. And there were lots of them! First thing we did when we got there was to get the camper stuck in the mud! Everyone helped push our camper van out of trouble. Walks and waterfalls on the doorstep. We had great walk to Muker, nice tea shop there too. Only downside is that the toilets are a hike away and only one shower. Loads of hot water tho for washing up. The farmer was kind enough to tow us to start van to come home. Lots of kind people, sunshine, water and nature made it a good break. We will definitely go back.
