This site is perfect if you're looking for peace and quiet. The site is level for caravans facing a small lake which you can fish in and while we were there plenty of carp was being caught. There is a large grassed area for children to play and to walk your dog. There are two showers and one toilet for women and I presume the same in the men's. This is a very friendly and clean site after being given the information and our pitch we were left to enjoy the peaceful views.
We visited Queenswood Arboretum which is a short drive away this is a lovely woodland walk where you can take your dog and the bonus is its free. Nearby is also Hampton Court Castle and gardens while we were there they had a bird of prey demonstration and a medieval battle well worth a visit. The Graffton pub on the road towards Hereford does lovely food and has a good beer garden and conservatory area.
I would recommend this site for a weekend getaway we had a lovely time.

What a fantastic site, owners very friendly and site in lovely location with great views. We were a bit dubious as the price was very low for bank holiday weekend £43 (4 people) including electric. We needn't have worried as the Campsite was spotless, showers and washing facilities were also clean. 2 female and 2 male showers 1 toilet each and a disabled. This doesn't sound many but was never as issue as the site is not massive. We never had to queue. Onsite fishing was fantastic not sure who enjoyed it more the adults or the kids £3 per person per day and the fish practically jumped on your hook which was great. Kids hired Kayaks from the shop for £5 hour which they loved. No shop which I thought was a plus as the kids never asked for anything as there was nothing to have (every parents dream come true) we will definitely go back in the future, owners have big plans but people should visit and see how good it is for themselves. Within easy reach of Symonds Yat etc. Massive field for playing games etc

We visited here early September, the site is lovely and peaceful (appart from the horses, cows, sheep etc!) which was lovely and expected for such a rural location.
The showers were spotless at all times as was the whole sight, superb pressure from the power shower!
The lake is teaming with fish which kept my partner and his father entertained for hours!
There are numerous water taps situated over the site which was very handy and also a large area to wash dishes next to the shower block.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
We have a VW campervan and travel all over and will definitely return to this pretty location.

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend and had a lovely time everything was as it should be on a campsite. toilets and showers always very clean and owners would help anyway they could, the lake is lovely and open and there are signs to say not to leave children unattended, some parents didn't abide by this obviously not the fault of the owner but if I had young children I would ensure they knew not to venture there without me !
There is a big field they can play all sorts of games on, we enjoyed our boules on there. I feel sometimes people do complain about the weirdest things can I just point out that we are in the middle of the countryside here and so there are animals sheep, chickens, cows, we were closest to the cows and yes you could hear them charmingly mooing away as they do at night sometimes as well as dayl but did it bother me not one bit I loved lying in bed listening to it as it reminds me were in the middle of the beautiful countryside and also it cut out the snoring in the tent of our neighbours.
Overall all just want to say we will definitely come back as it was very well priced too and owners were very lovely and helpful especially when my husbands car got stuck

Toilet block, clean with lashings of hot water. But only one loo per sex plus a disabled.
The walk from the tents to the loos was a good five minutes, as it so often is on mixed tent and caravan sites, it is so depressing walking past a long line of mostly empty caravans, all with their own loo inside, when you're desperate.
There is a floodlight on the loo block which is eye wateringly bright at night. The dishwash area was not lit.
The constant drone of noise from the big chicken shed was annoying. One night the breeze carried the smell over to us all evening, and chicken poo is much stinkier than cow, it's as bad as pig.
Owner and staff friendly and helpful and price very reasonable indeed.
The canoeing lake could easily be wandered to by a small child, so I wouldn't bring under-eights. There's very little for them to do.
Virtually all the caravans were empty during our midweek visit, I assume they're seasonally pitched weekend homes for obsessive kayakers.
We had gone in order to try out canoeing/kayaking on the Wye, which was great, but the roads are so narrow and bendy that getting to Hay on Wye took nearly an hour.
We will be returning to the area later this year (we loved kayaking - almost as much fun as surfing, and don't have to drive to Cornwall), but will camp somewhere closer to the river.

Management response: Regarding the comments on the fans from the chicken unit, yes there are fans on the chicken shed, but they only run when the temperature rises but you can only hear them because it is so peaceful on the site and they are certainly not of a loud nature. As it turns out we have someone on the campsite who happens to be a noise control officer and having read the review we asked his opinion. What he told us is that it is very faint and the campsite is so peacefully quiet that it is a slight background noise but he went on to say that you can hear the sheep in neighbouring fields more than the quiet fan.
You have to bear in mind this is a countryside campsite, if the sound of countryside noises bothers you, why would you come to a very rural campsite.
The comments on the floodlight are the first we have ever had, and unfair. Any light is piercingly bright if you look straight at it, the reason it is there is to light up our lake for safety reasons, she would have been quick to point out how dangerous a unlit lake is at night if it was not there. The washing up facility light had bulb gone and we had not been made aware of this, at no point did she, or anyone else come and tell us so how were we to know it is faulty. We do check them periodically but not every day. |

We had a lovely week here, it is a campsite we can thoroughly recommend. Our first ever trip in our classic caravan the site was easy to find with good access. The facilities are excellent and always clean, owners most friendly and helpful. There are plenty of local shops for everything you might need, not in walking distance but that is why the site is nice and quiet. There is so much to do in the area, we would recommend Hereford, Tintern, canoeing on the Wye, Forest of Dean, Ludlow and stargazing every night with amazing dark skies! We will definitely be returning to this nice site.

We have had a touring caravan permanently sited on Burhope since March 2011. We go down most weekends to escape the rat race, and always return home relaxed and ready for another week at work! We find it a peaceful site and never too busy.
There is a lake so children need supervising at all times. Its well kept and although tractors are up and down the lanes it really isnt a problem and after all this is in the country, with working farms.
No local shops but the eggs from the farm are lovely. £5 for two half dozen. We go into Hereford to the Deli Lounge Indian and have tried a few but this is the best. 20 % off takeaway/collection.
The 'Fountain Inn' pub about 2. 5 miles away does food but does not give very big portions. In hereford there is a brilliant shopping centre with a market on saturdays. Asda, Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons all around 10 miles from the site.
There is a Londis local shop about 5 miles away near a pub called 'the Tump' which we have yet to try. My husband showers in the toilet block and finds it spotless despite campers using it. We are both 50+ and find we want the quieter relaxing sites and this certainly has the desired effect.
If you want night life and club house this is not for you. There is a NHS walk in centre right next to Asda should you have any problems and need medical attention.
My sister in law used it last week and was very impressed with the service she received. We are looking forward to going down for a week in October.

This is a great spot. If you have kids don't be put off by the proximity of the pitches to the lake. There is loads of space to pitch up away from the lake side if you are concerned and plenty of space for games.
Toilet and showers are clean but limited in numbers so expect to queue. Hook up is available and for £3 per night you can also hire a fire pit, which is a bonus and is delivered to your pitch.
The lake is great and our son loved playing with his boat. If you are patient you will also get to see some big fish.
Access roads are tight and friends of ours with a caravan said they might be deterred due to this.
Ross on Wye is lovely and easily within a 30 minute drive. Garaway common hill is also worth a visit and on a clear day the views are spectacular from the top.
We had a great time and will be back soon. Quite surprised at some of the previous negative reviews, but maybe we were just lucky?

This is a friendly peaceful campsite with excellent facilities and scenic views. The owners and staff were very helpful and polite, the toilets & showers were immaculate.
We would definitely visit and recommend to anyone.
Plenty of places to visit in the area and some lovely country pubs around. The staff at the campsite were very good at recommending local places to visit and give directions.
Disregard any negative reviews as we could not fault it in anyway, the main road beside the campsite was very quiet.

POSITIVES
- the beautiful location
- the lake and fish
- very friendly lady owner
- clean toilets
- good washing up area
NEGATIVES
- no local shops(needed car every time we wanted something)
- 1 toilet for each sex
- two showers with no space to get dressed after
- noisy machinery working 24/7
Overall we did enjoy are stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful, but because of the awkward showering arrangement I didn't feel comfortable. Would visit again but wouldn't do more than a weekend.
