Having never been camping before I was very nervous about the whole camping experience (I like my home comforts) and was worried what the showers, toilets etc would be like.
I needn't have worried with visiting this campsite. Toilets and showers were very clean and always checked.
The owners were very helpful with giving our group information about where we could go and what we could do locally, you will to use a car if you want to go anywhere though as you are in the peaceful countryside.
They accommodated our needs perfectly and there was plenty of space on site for us to pitch our tents.
Very friendly and helpful and kept in a lovely condition, would recommend and would go again!

A great site with good facilities, although there really are no local facilities like a local shop within walking distance so make sure that you bring enough food, otherwise the local villages are quite a drive.
The showering facilities were excellent, and although there are only two showers and one toilet there was very little queuing.
Despite it being a bank holiday the site was quiet.
We were made very welcome on arrival and shown around, but when hiring the fire pit and buying fuel later that day the service was less than satisfactory.
We were only staying a weekend and the weather was poor so we didn't have the opportunity to try the kayaking. Instead we found a local pub (the New Inn) which served food throughout the day, and drove over to Much Marcle to have a tour around the Westons Cider Mill- would definitely recommend, the cider tasting was brilliant!
Overall, I would recommend the campsite- it was brilliant value for money, and broke up the journey on to our next campsite!

Excellent camp site.
Facilities are top notch - toilet block is very modern and always clean - lovely hot water.
Lovely location and great lake to demo boats on.
Canoe and Kayak shop is amazing so much stock and the staff really can not do enough to help you.
Great service, great site, great prices.
Would highly recommend A******** to any one especially couples looking to have a nice quiet break away together.
Local people very friendly and on hand to offer directions as well as places to eat and visit.
Very pleased and will definitely be returning very soon.

So it's March 2011, and after 6 months of our tent being put away, it's been dragged out for its first outing of 2011. There was no rain scheduled and the weather was supposed to be sunnyish.
Tom's parents wanted to see us this weekend, which is always nice, but I didn't want to be stuck in Cardiff all weekend. So we agreed to find somewhere near Ross on Wye, about half way for all involved. After mooching through numerous websites and reviews, I gave Tom the choice of 2, but steered him towards the above.
If you ever think of going camping, the best website in the world is www.Ukcampsite.Co.Uk. It tells you just about all you need to know and has always come up pretty much accurate for us. So the location is great for us, its about an hour traveling for everyone. And more importantly is that they let you have fires, camp fires, not just random fires, that would be bad.
I'm not going to say anything that the ukcampsite.Co.Uk hasn't already, but I'll mention the things that matter to me. The site is small, I think there is 12 spots, although there may be another field for tents. However as it is March, and the weather dropped to 2 degrees at night, Tom and myself were the only fools in tents. These days I resign myself to the fact that at sometime during my stay I may need to shower so I take a towel, and the bathroom facilities were immaculate. However, my theory is that this site was not built by people who camp, I may be wrong, but it doesn't fit. There are 3 toilets, 1 female, 1 male and 1 disabled. In the female bathroom, there is the toilet, which has a lockable door, and then to the left there are 2 showers. Sounds good, only it isn't. The showers have a curtain rather than a door, and I'm not prepared for anyone to see my bits, unless I want them too. So for me, a shower was a big no no.
Also I fear that when the site is busy, that there just would not be enough toilets for everyone. During out stay 2 other caravans were occupied, it appears to be a site where the majority of the pitches were taken up by season holders, and the toilets were not an issue, but the fear of being in the shower when someone came in, was. Tom was braver and faced the showers so I will feedback his repsonse. Great, super hot showers, but no where to put your clothes, towel etc. I don't like things touching my stuff, I don't know why, but I just don't, so despite smelling strongly of campfire I could not bring myself to wash with anything but baby wipes. Classy I know.
Bearing in mind that we were the only campers out there this weekend (tent), when I spoke to the owners, I felt that I had to book, rather than just rock up on the day. Which annoyed me a bit, because if the weather had turned, then from what I gather we would have still been charged. Fine if it was peak season, but it wasn't.
Moneywise, it was £10 for the tent and the 2 of us, then another £3 for the fire pit each night and £5 for a bag of firewood. If we had wanted kindling it would have been another £2, but we had some already in the car from last year. I don't mind paying for the firewood, but I think I would have rather been charged £13 and had the fire pit included for free.
I guess that most campsites I have been to, are quite relaxed, and often you pay on your way out, or someone will come round in the morning, especially if on a small site, but this was a lot more formal then that. When asked what time we would be arriving, I was quite vague, not because I was being awkward, but because I didn't know. It depended on what time I could get out of work, what time Tom would finish Uni and how long it would take us to pack up the car. I was told that earlier would be better, as the owners had to be in all day and didn't want to be in all evening, realistically if they had said, camp in the field with the caravans and sort out money in the morning, I would have found this far more normal.
This was a lovely site, and really peaceful, except for the tractors that would go hurtling past at random times. But I still managed to get more sleep than I had in a long time. Phone signal was fleeting, so we would get the occasional text message several hours after they had been sent and emails would come through in the middle of the night, but these are things I like. I don't have to worry about friends phoning up because their boyfriends are not doing what they should do, I don't get woken up with surprise phone calls from friends, who are up before me and more importantly, I am not up all night on the computer, because I have found fun articles and random things that I must find out more about.
Would I go back, maybe, but its definitely not a no. It's not somewhere I could go for a long term trip, due to the shower problems and occasionally thinking that a car was going to hurtle off the road and run into me and my tent, especially when lying in bed half asleep. But yes for the incredible feeling of calm that I felt for the entirety of my trip.

Burhope campsite is close to good days out in Hereford and Abergavenny for those who drive. It is nicely secluded and picturesque. The price was EXTREMELY reasonable. The toilets and showers were clean with no spiders! The showers were always hot. Lovely big open space, enough room to play games without annoying other campers. We were able to choose our own pitch which was good. The Kayaking on the site was great fun. It’s a great campsite, brilliant for walking weekends – fantastic for families or friends.

Out of the way from any local amenities, car is essential, Nearest big town nine miles away, either Monmouth or Hereford.
The site is a working farm, early morning cars will be heard on the adjoining road. For a nice country road there are some speed merchants who drive past very fast, for the benefit of those who have to pitch next to the road.
The campsite was fairly quiet on the weekdays, however, come the Friday evening things get busy, the toilets are not the best, clean yes, enough no.
If you like a shower in the morning then 7am is not far from adequate time if your lucky. Hot water is on, no set times for showers etc.
Be advised, when it does get busy take your own loo roll and something to wipe the seats. Some people showed no respect for other campers.
There is a small pond if you like fishing, mirror carp about two years old, caught on sweet corn and fake maggots for those interested.
If you are in a tent and require EHU then make sure you have a good length of cable and check the plug in unit works before you pitch up.
There are some nice places to visit, like Puzzle wood. The caves at Clearwell were impressive.
A good itinerary is what you need to plan.
Finally if you intend to eat, make sure you take plenty of food, there are no local shops and unless you have a fridge its long life or powdered milk.

Very poor service level on what could be a nice site, the facilities are of a good standard, but only one toilet in each male and female block and only two showers so expect a wait.
Would not recommend this site, as the owners are rude and ended up being abusive verbally over there dogs behaviour i.E destroying my daughters ball when it got loose on the site.
The area is beautiful with plenty to see and do, the views from the site are wonderful its such a pity that the current owners let it down.

We have just returned from what is an ok site, which is a shame because with a little tweaking it could be a fantastic site!
It is a peaceful site and you can hire a fire pit for £3.00 per night. Logs though are a little expensive at £5.00 per bag. The site itself is reasonable, we had two adults in a tent for £10 and two adults and three children for £14. You can hire out Kayaks for £5.00 per hour which went down well with the children.
However cutting the grass would have made our stay much easier and more pleasurable. The grass was ankle height and even after two very hot and dry days the ground was still damp. The children struggled to play any games as any balls or frisbees were extremely hard to find if not caught.
Ladies have the use of one toilet and two showers which are kept very clean but one toilet can be a problem. There were five females in our party and there were also another seven family tents on site as well as touring caravans, so a toilet wait was frequent. The shower area is cramped and you have to stand in the shower basin to dry and dress if there are people using the two sinks as there is not enough space between the showers and sinks for two people to stand. There is also a lack of space to put towels, clothes etc, the only clothes hooks are positioned above the hand basins and when the basins are being used this is not possible. There is no set time for toilet cleaning and on our first day the block was closed for cleaning at 11.30am but on our second day it was 2.30pm, this was very inconvenient as we were about to go out and all wanted to use the toilet before our journey.
So how can they improve this site, well cutting grass would be a good start. Displaying times that the toilets will be closed would be helpful or maybe cleaning the disabled toilet last so that there is still a toilet accessible rather than close them all at the same time and it would not hurt to be a little more courteous with their customers both on the phone and in person.
I would go again for a night if I could not get on another site and it is a good location for visiting Ross on Wye or Monmouth.

Beautiful campsite, with a gorgeous location. Lots of space as not too busy when we were there. Small lake on site where you can try out their selection of demo kayaks.
When we went their tractor was broken, so grass was much too long, but sure this will be rectified soon.
There was only one toilet each for men & women but it was quite quiet when we went, There are 2 nice showers, but nowhere to put all your toiletries & clothes. There are also only 2 sinks

We have just spent 4 nights here and it was great. The site was quiet and toilet / shower blocks were clean and warm. We pitched on one of the caravan plots as they were quiet and as it had rain for a few days said the tent site may be a little damp. The tent pitches also have hook up but you must ask on booking. This section does fall away from the top section.
The lake in the middle is lovely and has 2 resident geese and 2 drake's.
Found the price reasonable at £14.50 a night with electric hook up.
Shop on site is mainly for canoe and kayak equipment but there is talk of stocking other items for the summer, possibly.
The site is full recyclable, which is nice to see as we do recycle at home. They are about 4 miles either way from main roads and it is only 20 mins to Ross on wye, a quaint market town and 30 mins from hereford, much bigger town with all major superstores.
The is the usual farm traffic but not too early and went on until 10pm ish. But not a problem. Found out day of leaving that you can hire out canoe or kayak by the hour but don't know prices.
Very nice peaceful break but could be busy in school holidays I would imagine. Hope to return.
