I only stayed for the one night to see what it was like but because of the time of year I stopped on the grass next to the caravan pitches. These are right by the road which made the little traffic there was very loud and the light by the pitches was a little annoying through the canvas but this wouldn't happen if you got to pitch in the tent field.

This was pleasant enough with new clean facilities. Plenty of canoes to explore with a small lake in the middle of the site to give them a try. This was not lit at night though so wondered about the safety of children. The views are of countryside countryside and more countryside!

The owners were friendly and helpful and they let you hire fire pans to use if a campfire is what you're after.

My downside is that I like to walk but for me there was no where to go without driving but certainly seemed a well looked after site and I like the fact that it's welcoming any time of year.

Absolutely lovely site! Lovely clean facilities, boiling hot water for washup and in showers. We will definitely be returning again, we had a lovely peaceful break, lovely site. The only criticism site could benefit from a little shop selling essentials. Keep up the good work. If your looking for a site to just chill out and take it easy then this is the site for you. If your up for lively entertainment, then this isn't the site for you. We had a 13 yr old, 10yr old and an 8 month old and all agreed was a lovely break from the city humdrum.

Just returned from a weekend at this very nice site, we found the site facilities top class, very clean and well maintained, however on the down side there was only one WC in each toilet which must mean a wait when the site is busy.

The approach to the site was some what tight if towing a caravan, we found the best way to approach the site location was from the Pontrilas end.

After all said and done this should be rated as a very quiet, clean and well maintained site the owners welcome was friendly and helpful. The local area is not well served by shops etc. However the Fountain Pub ( 2 miles away) served us first class food at a very reasonable price.

Positives: very clean site, peaceful and facilities kept clean, kayak hire available on their lake. 2 mile walk to a nice pub The Fountain Inn - lovely Sunday lunch! Campsite owners helpful and happy. Didn't over book so loads of space.

Negatives: slight sloping field for the tents, only 1 loo in the ladies and 1 in the gents, 2 showers in each.

Stayed here for three nights with relatives who were staying in their caravan. Very tidy and peaceful site with lovely rural views. Access for larger / longer caravans is tricky due to narrow lanes and if approaching from Ross direction as a lot would, the gateway is a hairpin turn, so might take some jiggery pokery !

Hardstanding pitches for caravans are made up of very uneven gravel - some of it quite large stones.Could really do with finer gravel for the hardstandings as it's very uneven underfoot and could easily damage awning flooring.

Its a real get away from it all site, so little for children to do, but Ross is a nice place to visit as is Monmouth. No nearby shop but the pub which is about a mile and a half away serves lovely food at reasonable prices and has a beer garden. I understand the shop sells basics, but we did not use it so cannot comment further on this.

The facilities although exceptionally well maintained, clean and new, struggled to cope with the volume of people. Loo roll ran out at peak times and there were queues out of the door for the one loo on more than one occasion ! The light switch in the loo is on a timer, so be sure to press the button on the wall as you go in otherwise you will be plunged into darkness half way through your ablutions (nobody told us about this and for the first few times we sat in total darkness not knowing there was a button to press to operate the loo light and extractor fan).
Although there is another disabled loo to use, there is no lock on the door, so useless if you're not with a partner who can mind the door ! The owner was mopping the floor at one point and did snap at me somewhat to use the disabled loo while the floor dried, and this was when I discovered no lock on the door, so had to cross my legs for a while ! There is one tiny sink, so awkward if you come out of the loo to find someone cleaning their teeth and cosy if there are more than about three people in the building !

The showers are hot and spacious, (though no doors only curtains) but the building itself is not, there is nowhere really to hang clothes. We went in there when both showers were being used and so there were clothes and bags everywhere to step over.

For caravanners with their own facilities this won't be an issue, but for tenters such as ourselves this did pose problems.

This is a new site, so the owners are still getting to grips with it it would appear, but organisation is a little lacking. We were told different prices at various times, we were logged down to leave a day before we had agreed, so a good job there was no double booking ! we were told £2 for day visitors when enquiring via e-mail but then charged £5 for relatives to visit for about an hour ! ( proprietors didn't seem to know their own pricing schedule - )

We would like to visit again, but perhaps next year to see if the organisation is better and maybe either more loos or at least a lock on the disabled loo for use in busier times. There are lots of new trees planted on site and the added attraction of the lake and canoe shop. There seems to be no organised canoe hire as such but just a facility for buyers to try out canoes (every conceivable type of canoe and kayak is on sale and the place would be absolutely ideal for people wishing to purchase and try one out, while making use of the camp site for a few days, or longer).
The river wye is not too far away and a popular spot for canoeists. Ideally a half hourly, hourly or even daily rate for canoe hire would be a good feature of the site.

Firepits can be hired we understand at reasonable rates and the owners daughter will come round on the quad to deliver them then pick them up the following morning.Beware though, she zips round at a great rate of knots at times !.

Overall a very nice site with potential. We like the peacefulness and the fact that no music is allowed etc, which makes for a quiet and gentle site which seems to attract same campers. We will return again in the future.

We stayed here midweek just after the August Bank Holiday (we wanted to miss the crowds).

The facilities were all brand new and immaculate - hot water, lovely showers, a washing up area and plenty of room. There is one male, one female and one disabled toilet but 4 showers in total.

The site has a large pond/lake which is used for testing out canoes and kayaks that are sold on the site. If you do have small children this may be a problem as the lake had steep sides and no fencing around - our teenagers loved this and we hired a couple of canoes for a very reasonable fee for them.

Because the weather had been bad we camped on one of the caravan pitches which was great, tents are usually sited in the lower field, which was huge although a little sloping in places.

There is no shop on site, but a lovely village stores (check opening times) in nearby St Weonards.

The owners are very accommodating and want to keep the site immaculate, there are the usual camp rules but we liked the 'no music' rule, so it was very quiet.

In all a highly recommended site - very well managed and very reasonable prices.

Possibly the nicest and cleanest showers I've used. Which at the end of a days cycling was much appreciated!

The owners we friendly and made sure that we were happy with the pitch and were on hand to give information about walks in the area.

There was loads of space to pitch the tent and as an added bonus we could rent a fire pit. You can buy wood locally and it was good quality dry wood. They even made sure that we had a newspaper, kindling and matches.

There's a small fridge with some limited supplies in there (milk, chocolate and excellent free range eggs). But there's not enough to put a meal together and the local shops are far away and close early (12ish) so you've been warned!

Lovely place, nice and quite, I'd recommend it as a get away from it all place. They also have an amazing number of canoes for sale which I believe you can test drive on the lake in the campsite.

Our first trip so didn't know what to expect. We were really happy with the site. It is on a slope but we pitched at the bottom so no rolling out of bed!
The loo & showers were spotless & the owners really friendly & helpful. They have big plans for the site & we would like to come back from time to time to see how they are getting on. It's a bit out of the way so you need to make sure you've got everything you need. Also there is a small lake so keep an eye on the little ones. As yet there's not much for the kids to do but the ones we saw there seemed to be having fun flying kites etc. We would definitely go again.

Stayed for 2 nights in May. It's a very quiet site in a very rural location. We were very impressed with the showers/toilet block - very new and clean.

There is a slope in the field, but the field is very large, so easy to find a good pitch.

Some wildfowl is attracted by the man-made lake used by the onsite canoe/kayak school, so we enjoyed the quacking of ducks & honking of overflying geese whilst sat by the tent. Otherwise, the only sound is the bleating of sheep from surrounding fields.

We would revisit the site again.

We spent a rainy late May bank holiday at Burhope Farm. The site was well marked from both main roads and the site itself was well maintained.

The site had about a dozen hard pitches separated by grass for caravans / tents and a field for those just camping and not needing electricity. The facilities consisted of a toilet / shower block. 2 female showers and 2 male showers. There were three toilets in total, 1 male, 1 female, and 1 disabled. Toilet paper was hit or miss, so make sure you bring your own. The showers were brand new, with endless hot water. There was a large sink for washing up, but this was outside and exposed to the elements.

The owners keep a good stock of milk, drinks, sausages, etc. So if you forget anything they will sell to you on the site. They also rent firebowls and wood for use on the site, which was a popular choice given their reasonable rental rates. BBQs are allowed, so long as they are kept off the ground. Also, be warned that the field for camping is down a hill. This is fine, but it can be tricky to get up the slope in very wet conditions.

Overall, this is a peaceful campsite with keen owners. They have just recently taken over the site and I'm sure that over time it will become an excellent site ideally placed for the Black Mountains and canoeing down the Wye Valley. There is in fact a canoe store on site.
