On first impressions I wasn't sure what to expect, however we were greeted by a friendly man who was very helpful. We had a friend joining us later, were given flexability to park where we wanted.
The toilets & showers were basic & clean to start with, although could do with maybe more on site for busier periods, & cleaning more often.
We would of liked to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday night, but would of had to pay entrance on top, maybe not charge people to go to clubhouse if they are eating a meal?
This place is a nice friendly basic campsite, having a security presence is a good thing to avoid any trouble, there is also a car boot on a Sunday morning.

Stayed at Great Birchwood over the August Bank Holiday weekend, previous reports have noted the close proximity of Lidl and McDonalds, and the ease of access to Lytham and Blackpool, which are plus points, I noted their negative points, but I thought I'd see for myself, and it all went downhill from there! Arrived at dusk on Friday, having previously been told to report in at the bar if the office was closed. Directed by the lady at the bar to a guy by the DJ box who looked at our booking invoice and told me to drive past the play area where I'd see some tents and tag on to the end of the row! (Last contact with the site staff all weekend).
No formal pitch numbering, and not being allowed to park alongside the pitch, unlike most of the sites we've stayed at all over Europe, and had to lug all the camping gear from the access road, as the parking area was filled with cars randomly parked, seemingly by a passing hurricane ie all over the place. Eventually managed to get slightly closer and parked so not to block in anyone else.
As a fisherman I had been interested in the pond, but put off with the £10 per day price to fish a muddy puddle which needed an injection of extra water, and was full of ducks and soggy bread, with little kids throwing sticks and rocks in all the day, so didn't indulge!
I only found one pot washing sink for the whole site, (which was packed), located 500yds away from our tent, outside the toilets, by the bar, and causing large queues for washing-up after meals. The old toilet block was smelly, as the extractor was U/S and dark, with no lighting in the cubicle area, and no toilet paper or soap in the dispensers in either block for most of the weekend, hand dryers inoperative, broken lock on shower cubicle door in new block, new block main door to the gents (and ladies for that matter) would benefit from a hydraulic door closer as it opens with a view from the joint access steps straight on to the urinals, which mentally scarred my daughter when a Large Cowboy spun around before 'Holstering his Six Gun'. Yes there is a 'please close the door' sign but it does not seem to happen (plus didn't seem to be a working cleaning schedule, as the loos looked the same when we went as when we arrived, dirty).
We would have liked to try the Steakhouse but objected to the £5 per person charge to enter just to have a meal. I understand the charge for people who fill up the car park from the local area for the Country Music and Line Dancing, but surely that should be waived for people who are paying to use the facilities ie campers and caravanners? Especially if just going in for a meal.
I made the mistake of leaving the parking space to drive to Lytham and Blackpool on Saturday and Sunday and had to park on the main square, only to be blocked in by the car boot sale that had sprung up in the early hours, luckily escaped by moving the telegraph pole boundary! Same thing happened on Monday morning as the parking area was rammed on Sunday night unsurprisingly. Should have parked up on Friday then used buses!. The whole thing in reverse to pack up on Monday, wait till a space was vacated, to avoid the hike to the main car park with all the gear. Probably be a better experience for a caravan or motorhome. Still, not be bothered by that all again, as as we'll not be going back, think we'll stick to Yorkshire!

First time at this site and will be the last I'm afraid.
The showers didn't work and along with the toilets were in a pretty shabby state.
The bar/cabaret/restaurant was probably the best thing about this place as the steaks were quite good and certainly value for money. The line dancers are good for a laugh and the singer was ok. Charging £5 a head for admission is a bit much though as you will be buying their food and drink all night and don't forget the pitch fee has already been paid.
Not the prettiest of places either, nuff said.

Having read other reviews I was apprehensive. In my opinion rightly so! We were booked for 4 nights but packed up after 3. Bank holiday weekend, really really busy and packed in with tents, caravans etc. I'm sure not the legal requirement between units met! £5 fee to go into club to eat, we decided not to bother! Facilities really poor, toilets need a lick of paint oh and lights would be a bonus too, site in general could do with a HUGE clear out. Rubbish overflowing. Only today was there soap in the ladies toilet! Nothing at all to do with the site I know but came home with horrendous bites on my legs n arms. Kids on the site seemed to enjoy themselves but not a great deal of space for them to play given the amount of units pitched. Would not visit again for sure!

I had never been camping before so this was my first trip. I had emailed the site and they said there should be places available as I was arriving on the Sunday. When I arrived it was pretty busy and I was not sure where I was going, I headed for the main house but nobody was there so I was directed to the main ranch where food is served. There I found the owner who was actually serving and she came away to sort me out! I paid for one night and someone else (family) showed me where I could pitch. It is a family business you see. I loved the place, there was live entertainment for 3 hours, Johnson guy doing Kenny Rogers covers, and a large group of line dancers dancing too. This was all free to watch. I could not stop too long because my daughter wanted to go and play outside, she saw the swings and slides area. I nipped into Lythmn St Annes early evening. And because I loved it so much I decided to stay another night, but early morning I could not find anyone to pay so I headed for Blackpool for the day and was back at 4 to pay for my next night. I did notice someone had unzipped my tent, when I know I had zipped it right up when I left! not happy that someone touched my property. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would go again without hesitation. The weather was superb which was an added bonus. Even though it rained heavily for the two nights. The showers and toilets were blocked but one of the family were there to unblock them, the showers were hot. They could do with more of a clean hourly. And beware of coming down the metal steps, one guy slipped and bruised his arm.
The site has a lot of potential. I for one will and would go back.

Spent Bank Holiday weekend at this site, very helpful and friendly site, directed to our pitch on arrival, it was a nice quiet spot which suited our needs as we didn't, t have kids with us.
Kids on the site seemed to be having a brilliant time playing on the camping field.
Enjoyed the steak and ribs from the chuck wagon in San Antone on the site well worth a visit, good entertainment Line dancers brilliant, The breakfast is good too at a reasonable price.
Great location for Lytham St Anne's enjoyed the Promenade even went the Cinema and had fish and chips on the prom.
Great Birchwood is a good place for Caravans, tents and tourers will bring the family next time we visit, hopefully soon as there seems to be lots of family stuff to do.

We stayed over the August Bank Holiday in a tent, with friends in their caravan, and their daughter and her friends in another tent.
Not so good bits:
Our friends arrived first and on booking in had to listen to the moans and groans of the person checking them in, apparantly annoyed that someone had allowed us to book tents and caravans together. When we arrived later, we were told to ring our frinds to find out where they were, as the receptionist had 'no idea'. We saw little of the owner(s) during the stay; a man came and asked us to make sure we moved our car (we were still unpacking!) even though most other campers kept theirs on the field next to their tents.
The site is generally shabby, tatty, very untidy and grubby. It needs a good clean, a landscape and a few licks of paint. It has a large section which seems to be residential, mostly used by people into the whole country and western thing. The site was busy with visitors there just for the club and events going on there, so lots of comings and goings. I think the site is mostly about the clubouse events and the residents than other campers, to be fair. There is a car boot sale on the car park every Sunday morning.
The site was very busy, with caravans being placed very close together. The caravan bits felt very cramped. Tents were close together but not on top of each other.
The fields for tents were very, very boggy. There's an unfenced pond in the middle of the camping bit which would make me a bit wary if I was there with small kids. There's no dedicated dog walking area.
There are toilets and showers attached to the clubhouse and a newer block more centrally placed. I didn't see either block being cleaned during the weekend, although the newer block was the cleaner of the two. The showers in there are free and good and hot. There was no soap in the dispenser by the sinks over the whole weekend. There are two pot washes - one under cover and one not. The cover - a bit like a bus stop shelter - was filthy with muck and cobwebs, but the water was hot and plentiful.
We didn't go into the clubhouse during our stay, but there was entertainment every night and two afternoons. The evening entertainment went on til around midnight but wasn't overly noisy.
Good points, then.
Great for kids - they could roam the site and played all day.
Very laid back. No mithering from anyone, and the other campers were all very friendly.
Security very visible and actually living in a cabin on site. The security guy came and said hello on his rounds with his dogs at night.
The children's play area looked good, and was at one end of the site, so you could choose to camp well away from it if you chose. Nice to see lots of kids playing outdoors instead of stuck on xboxes and moaning about being bored.
Campfires allowed!
Quieten down time was 1am. That's not to say the site was rowdy - far from it, but it meant we four could sit around our fires and talk until the early hours without fear of disturbing anyone. I guess the clubhouse being open late means that people will be up and about, and there will be some noise anyway, so to ask campers to be quiet after, say, 11pm, would be a bit hypocritical.
Location - close to shops for supplies (by car). Cycle rides which are well signposted. Lytham and St Anne's close by (both great places), and Blackpool a bit further.
Oh - £17. 50 per night including hook up seemed fine, but we were pitched too far from a hook up and had to borrow an extension from our friends. Lucky they had one, as the site passed us around when we enquired about borrowing one.
So, generally ok if you camp in a part that's away from the clubouse and the grotty bits, great for kida and well located. I may go back because of the campfires and its location, IF I read that it's had a cleanup.

We went here with our family (2 adu and 3 children). I don't think this site is very family friendly, there was a deep pond right next to the park which has seen better days.
The toilets were the best and in the new shower block the showers were falling apart.
The bar was a country and western bar, for which non-campers were coming and going all day and night, the music went on very late into the morning and you have to pay £5 per adult to go in.
When we did go in the bar on sunday afternoon for my step dads 50th, they shut the bar by 7 saying they'd had a busy weekend. The bar staff weren't very friendly or helpful.
This site is more of a residential site, not very safe and secure for us
Sorry to say we will not be returning back.

Ok, so it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing site and maybe the facilities are not as pristine as they could be, but, if you have a sense of humour you will have a great time!
Friday night we ate in the restaurant, it was quiet, maybe only another 6 or so diners, but the food was very good. The waitress and in fact all the staff were lovely. A few regulars were in line dancing and they happily taught us a few moves. Saturday there was a band playing and the bar was packed. Again we had a great night and were made to feel very welcome by the regulars.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and would most definitely return for another hoedown.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay over the Easter period in our caravan, 2 adults and 2 dogs, awning and electric hook-up.
My main problem was our electric hook-up. On a electric stand for 3 hook-ups, they stuck an adaptor on and placed a further 3 hook-ups, totaling 6. The site couldn't handle this and we constantly had power failures. This went on for 24 hours. When another camper went to complain, he came back shrugging his shoulders, saying he had got no-where, and had been told to 'flick the trip switch back' each time. After a further hour of constant power failure, I went to complain. The response I got was that it was the problem of other campers using TV's, heaters etc, and there was nothing they would do about it. I was then told that I could have a refund and leave, but this was not possible as they had let too many caravans onto the site, and we were literally jammed in, we couldn't have left if we wanted to!
Caravan after caravan kept arriving, and these were placed on bits of waste land, or two caravans to a pitch (half on the concrete, half of the van on the pebbles). We were stacked in like Caravans are on a sales pitch.
Lastly, the facilities, or lack of them. For the ladies on the site, we had one shower and three toilets, not good when you consider the number of people on the site. They had tried to rectify this problem by placing three unisex portacabins outside. To say that these would not have been out of place at a festival tells you everything you need to know about these cold showers.
I will however end on a positive note. The meals in the club are amazing, and excellent value for money. We would actually go back for something to eat, just not stay, and if you like Country and Western music, the entertainment is fantastic. Slight downside is, after paying to stay on the site, then purchasing a meal, we were then required to pay £5 each for the privilege of staying in the club. Should this fee not just have been for people coming in off the street???
This site has so much potential, it really wouldn't take much effort to bring it up to the standards that people expect.
