Just back from a very relaxing week here. A nice, small site which is very well-run by two very friendly wardens. Very informal setup - a few electric hookups (new this year) which presumably need booking, should this be your kind of thing - it's not mine. Camping is tucked right into the dunes at Morfa Bychan, which has a fantastic, large beach - though local council allow cars to pay to park on it, which I found odd on my first visit a few years back.

Site is kept very clean, as are (small) toilets, showers and washup. At busy periods you'll queue, and at other times you might be the only camper on the site. If you like to shower a lot, you might choose to come outside school holidays - luckily for my kids, I don't mind the sea. No freezeblock service, but I filled our cold box 1/2 full of water which kept milk fresh. Spar is a 5 min cycle / 15 min walk, and it's large as it serves some big static van parks a bit further along the coast.

Beach got a bit messy after a busy, hot Sunday - lots of litter - but full marks to Gwynedd council who had men out 8am, and beach really clean by 11am.

Given this site is not a long way from a large-ish town and it's close to the biggest beach around, the friendly hands-on approach the wardens take to keeping the lid on and making sure families and (less commonly) groups of kids all rub along OK is a big plus. It manages to feel not too unlike a small, remote site - whilst being close to the beach for your kids (ours are 4 and 7).

No playground, but lots of kids and parents throwing balls etc at each other! This was our third visit, we'll go again, and we met several other families who go regularly.

Current rates for a tent: £7 per night adults, kids free (there may be other charges for vans / boats etc of which I am unaware). Highly recommended.

Just back from visiting this site for 2 nights.

Pitched against the dunes so only a minute walk to the beach via the sites access path.

The beach between two access roads is 'no dogs' from 1st May to end Sept but there is still a good length of beach running alongside the site to exercise the dogs.

Spent our time throwing balls on the beach for our 2 dogs. Loads more caves just round the corner towards Criccieth - watch the tide.

Site is very clean, the wardens very helpful and facilities spotless. Didn't inspect the playground.

Will be back again in Sept for some fishing.

One of the wardens fishes so has some good local knowledge.

Shopping with a motorhome can be difficult - found a Lidl with a plenty of space to park. Go into Porthmadog, turn left and left again at roundabout out on the A497. Lidl on right.

I camped here in August 2010. Very nice wardens. Facilities basic. When registering with the warden you are given a yale key for the toilets and showers plus a cardboard ticket to tie to your tent. There is a deposit for the key. Number of showers insufficient for size of site. Could do with more regular cleaning. Location great. 30 seconds walk to a lovely beach. The bar down the road at Black Rock Sands site can get a bit rough. Porthmadog nearby has a Tesco and a Lidl. Site was overrun with rabbits.

Fantastic location, we love it! Right next to beach. Not much around but that's how we like it.

No play area but you don't need one with the beach just behind you. Clean sand/sea fab pools for crabs on beach.

Very basic but clean shower/ toilets. Hot water all the time. They do need soap in toilets and better hooks for your towels/ clothes in shower area. Would return, may do before end of summer.

Castle chippy in criccith a must do! Eat in or on the beach.

Great site for camping, really enjoyed it when I went with the family last year, kids enjoyed it too even though there was nothing there for them. Beach just 2 minutes walk. Even though on the first night it was very windy and raining and our little tent leaked and nearly blew away, we sorted it out and glad we stayed the whole weekend. Shop just down the road about 20 minutes walking distance. Only a shower block, toilets and washing up block on site but that didn't bother us at all. Would definitely go again

The location is fantastic. No campfires allowed, even in a raised pit, but that's not a problem as they are allowed on the beach which is a stones throw away from the tent and a way better location for a fire anyway. On the Friday night, we had the place to ourselves after dark.

The beach itself is gorgeous, with white sand and was as clean as you could expect, given what a busy weekend it was down there because of the beautiful weather. The sea was warm enough to swim (even after dark) and the tide never comes right in giving 24/7 access.

Facilities are quite basic, but clean and functioning. The toilets were fine. I can't comment on the showers, as I didn't, just swam in the sea. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The ground was a little bumpy in parts, but as it wasn't that busy, we managed to find a secluded spot (behind the central mound of dune that runs through the middle of the field) that was very flat.

As described in other posts, spar and chippy (which I thought was rather good) just down the road and if you want a 'bar' you can take a walk down the road to the busier, Black Rock Sands site.

We usually like quiet, more remote sites. You'd never normally catch us in one with 'set pitches' and I really liked this spot and will definitely be going back very soon!

Does just what it said on the tin!

The wardens were very helpful and friendly.

The weather wasn't so good and the ground is quite sandy. I would recommend long pegs or dog screws to hold down an awning or tent during high winds.

Showers and toilets good, water pressure at the standpipes was very low at times making it slow to fill an aquaroll.

The chemical toilet disposal point was poor (just a 4' hole in the ground with no water to rinse the cassette out).

The beach is stunning and just a hop over the dunes.

We will definitely return.

A very basic campsite which is right next to the beach. No electric hook ups and no childrens play area. One toilet block which has 4 ladies toilets in, which were kept very clean, one wash room with two sinks for dishes, with constant hot water. One shower block separate for mens and ladies. A spar and a chippy down the road about 5 minutes in the car, but we found the chippy quite expensive and not very nice. If you are lucky enough to get nice weather this site is fine for a few days break as the beach and sea are fine. Dogs are allowed on this site but it was kept clean and no rubbish was left around.

But if weather is bad this site is very windy and sandy. We paid £8 per person and children were free.

Just got back from this campsite and although the facilities are very basic, the location is fantastic.

We arrived around 2pm without much cash (assumed they'd accept chip and pin) but this wasn't a problem. The owner told me to just go pitch my tent, advised me on the nearest cash point and said to book in later.

Pitching the tent was a bit of a problem. There are no defined pitch numbers unlike most sites we'd previously visited so it was a case of finding the best spot. As we'd arrived in one of the busier times of the year, a lot of the flat land was already taken meaning we were on very dodgy ground!

Once the tent was pitched it was time to explore the nearby area, the local Spar is a good 20 minute walk down the road or 5 minute drive. The cash machine in there does charge for withdrawals. There's a small beach shop next to that selling buckets and spades etc. The beach though is literally a stones throw away from the site and there's plenty of fun to be had for the kids. Once the tide is out, head over to the north part for some cracking rock pooling.

Back at the site we found the toilet blocks to be very basic but generally clean. Although there is no soap or dispenser unit so take your own for washing your hands afterwards nor are there any hand dryers or towels. This is the same for ladies block too.

My main problem with the site was the washing up block. This consisted of a double sink but only 1 plug. So whilst 2 people could use it at time, the lack of a second plug meant only 1 person could do their washing up. At busy times there was a 10-15 minute waiting time!

The shower blocks were pretty good, plenty of hot water and very clean. However there is nowhere to hang your towel, only a bench to put all your stuff which, when busy, can be annoying.

There is plenty to do around the area, lots of visitor attractions not to mention Mt Snowdon only a 30 minute drive from here. There's a tourist information centre in Porthmadog who were really helpful in giving us information about what to do in the area with our 4 year old.

In summary, the location is fantastic, and the surrounding landscape is beautiful. However the site itself did get extremely busy and at £20 a night was very expensive considering the site has only basic facilities.

Arrived quite late on a busy Friday night, after being quoted £16.50 per night on the phone were told on arrival £22.50!

The site was very busy, and noise ( but hay ho it's peak season you expect that!).

Great for the beach, but very basic in all other areas!

Toilets run out of loo roll towards the end of the night! and showers ( 3 for the ladies ~ were 70's school showers!) Showers opened at 7am, and the toilets were shut to be cleaned at 11.30am! The toilets are very basic if you don't do spiders don't look up when weeing! We have a baby of 1yrs old and struggled to shower her!

How close it is to the beach is amazing if you can put up with the dated basic facilities!

Shops are a good walk away ( good 30 mins) only pub open at night, sat night ~ Karoke 8.30pm, catch my drift !

But by pass that take your own wine & watch the sunset and wash / shower whe you come home!
