This site is truly a hidden gem. After looking at a map of the back roads you will discover it is handy for everywhere. Pitches are very generous, some are very, very slightly sloping. The toilets and showers, including family rooms are clean and warm. We arrived bank holiday weekend and hardly saw anyone else in the toilet block nevermind queued! The washing up facilities are indoors and there is a separate sink for cleaning fruit and veg. It is a lovely peaceful site which is well maintained with helpful, accessible staff.

The pitches are well spaced and planned, with plenty of room for your kids to play, without worrying about traffic. Stoke Gabriel is a pretty village, witha very well stocked shop, and a couple of pubss. The church inn is ideally placed on a very quiet cobbled street, you can look over the wall at the new and great (according to the kids 8, 7 and2) play area in the orchard next door.

The crabbing at the river shack is amazing to, great cider, coffees and cake. The site has a small but adequate shop where you can order a newspaper and they will freeze your ice packs. Its 15 mins walk to stoke gabriel(the pub and shop.

The site has apple trees, sheep and wild life, if your looking for play areas and a bar you wil be disappointed. , peace and quiet and you will love it. There is a laundrette on site that has 2 big washers and a drier, you can have 2 loads of washing done and dried for #8. 00.

This site is lovely if you want to relax, the vast number of repeat visitors you meet speak for it. We have stayed in a static here and that was good. The facilities for camper vans and caravans looked good

Nice campsite, lots of room, good facilities, no hookup charge, however being the end of season and after a lot of rain the site was pretty muddy, the tent needed a good clean up afterwards and the guy in the pitch next door needed the farm tractor to pull his motorhome out of a rut. Nonetheless nicely situated for local attractions, we did Kingswear, Agatha Christie, and Totnes from there, and an easy 20 minute stroll to the Castle pub in Stoke Gabriel for food and ale.

Excellent campsite. Huge plot and they don't charge for electric hook up. Very clean toilets and they are heated and plenty of hot water.

If you're looking for a pool and clubhouse then this isn't the site for you but if you want peace and quiet with beautiful countryside then this is it.

Go to the village of Stoke Gabriel, very pretty and go to Emma's there for a fab meal. Paignton is aprox 3 miles away and Torquay and Brixham about 6.

Just returned from a lovely weekend here.

Toilets and showers were very clean and very warm! Could have done with a few more but didn't have to wait long. The washing up area could do with being bigger too as quite often had to wait for this.

We had the unfortunate experience of our tent leaking whilst we endured terrible weather, we had to take it down and change it at a local tent shop and the owners were very helpful and gave us a sign so we could keep our pitch.

Owners are very friendly, site was very clean and people were friendly too. The best bit for me is that as we were on a non electric pitch we could arrive whenever and we could leave when we wanted to which meant we could make the most of our trip away and we could allow the tent to dry out fully before we packed up.

I will be going back year after year!

Higher well is a lovely site for a relaxing holiday, the toilet/shower facilities are well kept. Night time is peaceful, being school hols many children as well as dogs on site but no problems with noise. The site did not feel busy and you were not crowded in.

However site is somewhat secluded and I feel that you need transport to reach Paignton centre about 3 miles away (Morrisons being 2 mile+ according to satnav)

Stoke gabriel is a lovely village with 2 pubs but too far to walk for a lot of people with a steepish hill coming back.

The mobile fish and chip van on Saturday nights serves lovely food and saves cooking.

The site is situated near the lively resorts of Paignton and Torquay so lots to keep you entertained day and night.

Great site with a good location for touring. Found the staff to be very friendly

The site was spotless and the toilet /shower block wash up facilities clean and tidy at all times. No queueing for any of the above.

As far as I could see rubbish recycling is encouraged and with a price of £11 a night with hook up takes some beating

Had a very enjoyable week even though the weather wasn't the greatest but there was no surface water, drained really well

The only slight negative was the site was on a bit of a slope, but apart from that great value worth every penny

Lovely quiet site in between two excellent pub/restaurants.

Facilities are second to none and pitch availability is usually not a problem, especially if you're not requiring the hook-up.

Great access to Paignton and Torquay, in fact Paignton is only half hour walk away which makes it great for a night out without taxi or driving problems.

There is a small on site shop which is stocked with all the essentials but with a couple of pubs within 10 minute walk away why bother cooking for yourself?

Just returned from our second stay. We LOVE this site. It is relaxing, peaceful and chilled. We have two boys 10 and 6. There is no entertainment or play area but one huge games field. This site is perfect for those who want a quiet site, that is relaxing. There was huge field for dog walking. The toilets were clean, tidy and the max I had to queue for a shower was 5 mins. We have already booked for next year!

The location was fab, mins from mcdonalds, morrisons, sainsburys and Paignton zoo. There are cider farms close by.

Stayed in August this year on elec hook up pitch in a tourer. Site was easy to find following instructions from Exeter provided by the site owners. Very windy and small narrow country lanes once you turn off main Aroad, can be a pain when its busy rush hour etc. Follow the directions given or you will come unstuck as some of the roads are just not suitable for tourers

Pitches are numbered and I was told to pitch van in middle of number. When I arrived at pitch there was rubbish still from previous caravan there and dog poo, I was tired after all night drive so didn't want to make a fuss. The pitches are spacious but what I found was some people took advantage of this and spread their van and equipment over a larger space leaving you with not much room left hence the saying (give a inch and take a mile).

There's no playground facilities for youngsters and you are expected to make your children go down to the ball field to play games which is some distance away. I was told by the proprietor when I arrived at reception that children were not allowed to play games on site except for in the field although not one person adhered to this and the field was empty and there were cricket balls and footballs bouncing of my car and van every five minutes from adults as well.

The launderette was £2.50 a wash but use liquid as powder doesn't come off clothes the driers are 20p seven minutes and ironing facilities there as well.

The dog field was large and most people seemed to clean up after their dog. The shop was only small but had a few papers and some sweets and milk bread etc but there is a Sainsburys 5 10 mins up road and petrol as well.

The only down side which I have not seen mentioned so far is the toilet facilities. Two blocks, one down by reception, two male toilets two female and one in the middle of all the fields consisting of three male toilets, four wash basins, four showers and four urinals which were constantly in use it was like Picadilly station. Most of the time I would have to walk all the way to the reception to use others

My wife and daughter told me the female block was the same, and also despite being closed as well between 11 am and 2 pm often for cleaning.

This is a cheap site for Devon area and within easy reach of Paignton Torbay and other attractions but you pay for what you get as the saying goes

What a brilliant campsite. We stayed for four nights in the non-EHU field which, although it didn't have marked pitches, had plenty of room. Most of the field was gently sloping, but not enough to cause problems. The campsite is for couples and families only and although there wasn't a children's play area, ours found plenty to do. The facilities on the site were some of the best we have seen. There were the usual toilets and showers, washing up facilities and four family bathrooms with toilet, shower and sink all of which were spotlessly clean. The staff were very helpful and the booking process was very easy. The pitch price is very reasonable with no additional charge for EHU, gazebo's or ice block freezing. This is an excellent base to explore the Paignton/Dartmouth area with a Morrison's and Sainsbury's within a five mile radius. We will definitely be going back soon.
