We stopped here for 2 nights, just to give the kids their first camping experience (4 and 6).
Considering the prices (very low), my expectations where quite low, but was very surprised on arrival to see a well established/tidy/clean site with plenty of essential facilities. It's a perfect place to use as a launch pad, as you aren't paying for swimming pools/bars and entertainment, it's a really pleasant/clean and well ordered campsite.
The pitch was good, everyone backed onto a hedge, and had plenty of room for our large 8 berth tent (7.5*3.7m), and the car easily fitted along side. EHU was free, and there are a lot of EHU pitches, so a nice mixture of tents/trailer tents and caravans/motorhomes. There was a slight slope to the pitch, but it was well drained even after heavy rain, and well maintained.
Facilities wise, the shower/toilet/laundry/food prep/washing up/family bathroom block was 30 seconds walk (ideal). The family bathrooms where great, and it was all very clean and tidy. There was a mop/bucket and signs to ask people to mop up after showers etc, which is good to help people contribute to keeping it clean. It was well lit, and access at night was easy. The campshop was quite small and to be honest I only popped in once at arrival to book in, and that was it!.
There is no park or other facilities for the kids, but there is plenty of space for them to run around and find stuff to do without annoying other people.
Location wise, the only thing you will notice is that it's a little walk to the nearest pub/shops etc, which are in Stoke Gabriel.
However, Paignton is very close (2 miles or so), and you have a Morrisons at Paignton Zoo that has cheap fuel and you can stock up on anything you want by car. Torbay as an area is very compact, Brixham / Paignton / Torquay are only minutes away so going out for the day / evening is not a problem.

We have been coming to higher well for many years now and we leave our touring caravan here now as we are really pleased with it
Its a lovely quiet site with it not having a bar and playground
The toilet facility are excellent and well looked after
And I think you will find it very hard to beat for money value
And the same people come and camp the same time every year so we all get to know each other which is nice too
The Ball's have a good little shop for essentials and the newspapers what ever one you want they can get.
Stoke Gabriel is a lovely village and the Parkers arms at the beginning of the lane is great and do very nice food
John Liz and Family are very polite and ready to help out when needed
And we will be going back for many years to come all being well.

We booked this camp site for a 6 night stay as a centre to explore Torquay and the Dartmouth area.
What a good site it was. We stayed in the far Non-EHU field. Although generally sloped we managed to get a flat area of the field. The pitch was very spacious (6 man tunnel tent) with firm ground, but not too firm for general pegs.
Facilities on site were very good. Clean toilets, free hot showers, washing up room with lava hot water and also a freezer at reception for replenishing ice packs.
If you get a clear night and like looking at the stars, then you will not be disappointed.
Although in the sticks, the local Sainsburys is a 5 minute drive away. The local pub is a 15 minute walk away.

Nice site, owners friendly and helpful. Needed a few more ladies loos when busy. Facilities otherwise good but needed a bit more cleaning, always a lot of water and grass on the floor and sometimes no loo roll. Nicely away from Paignton / Torquay but easy to get to them. Be aware that from Stoke Gabriel if you want to go west Totnes is a pain for traffic jams, never a time we didn't queue for ages, but it was August. Oh, and mice where we were on site, saw them sometimes and the little blighter's burrowed under the tent and chewed a 5cm hole in the footprint.

Once again a lovely weeks holiday at a simply stunning site. The owners are friendly and helpful. So much so that once our tent was pitched with due consideration to the ground the pitch next door said we were too close (over a 2m gap!)they offered to help us move it in the rain and got other people to pitch in too! Liz is a star! There rates are more than reasonable and they don't get funny over time dogs etc.
The toilets are nearly always clean and the showers warm most of the time. The only improvement? Well that would be a play area for the kids (but know this is an insurance nightmare) and a larger dog walking area as in previous visits.

VERY GOOD!
We stayed at the campsite for a week the staff were very friendly, and helpful. The pitch was very good and very big.
The facilities were always very clean, showers nice hot water and usually free to use.
There was a field over to the side of the campsite which I think was an overflow field for more tents but it was empty and my two boys had hours of fun flying kites, playing football etc in the field.
Will certainly be going again highly recommended!

Stayed a weekend here and found the owners helpful and very friendly. This site is in a lovely, peaceful location with a short walk through lanes to the village and creek. The site office/shop is lightly stocked but well enough to cover basic needs. The toilet blocks etc.Are very clean and tidy, as are the the field/pitches etc.
The only thing that spoilt our peace here was a loud family nearby with no consideration for other nearby. They were 'regulars' apparently, with friends next door, also in caravan/awning. He was one of those who loved the sound of his own voice and seemed to delight more in raising his voice and moaning to his wife/family then enjoying the peace that could have surrounded him had he been blessed with an ounce of thought for others.
We would love to return there because of it's quiet location, but hopefully to another pitch far from those who spoilt, what would have been a lovely peaceful weekend.

Stayed at Higher well campsite the week before Easter weekend. People were very nice, caretaker is brilliant, would help you out, we borrowed a heater and extension lead, 5 star for this man, excellent! Was reserved a pitch to which was very holey and not really suitable for a tent. But we caught the sun every morning (when it decided to come out that is! so nice for that). Showers weren't too good, just to get a warm(ish) shower that run properly I had to put the next shower on, weird but the water would just trickle out if I didn't do this. Failing that, just go in pairs. I'd give the showers a 5 out of 10 and that's only because it was cold. The washrooms, toilet, dishwashing facilities are a perfect 10, clean and very modern. Launderette facilities are brilliant and very reasonable prices. The fields aren't all flat so be careful when reserving a pitch, they tend to put you in the worst areas first. If I go again which I probably shall, I'll be choosing a pitch which is on the top of the field, this is the probably the flattest area, but you have to walk a little bit to the showers and loo. Campsite is in a lovely area and only about 20 minutes away from Torquay. It is next to a road which if your pitched on between 16 to around 20 is a little noisy due to the idoits in their boy racer cars! You always get them! Please be careful when taking the roads to campsite they are a little narrow and windy, but I recommend this campsite even though the showers are cold, it a great site and you never know they might have had enough complaints to fix the showers by now.

We have been camping in various types of unit on this lovely site for years. However, we sold our beloved VW van about 6 weeks ago, so decided to book a static here for a week. We have stayed in their statics in the past but they only had a new (2007) van available which we booked. Quite a coincidence, as OH's elderly parents, with his sister and 2 children, 2 and 6 stayed in the very same van 3 weeks before us! they did however warn us about the bed situation ( read on about this) after we'd booked!
On first sight a lovely van, clean, and obviously very modern looking, it had everything in it - fridge, microwave, large gas oven, grill, 4 rings. I have to say the grill was absolutely useless, it took about 20 minutes to grill 2 rashers of bacon!
But.Our main problem was the beds. The double bed, which is in a separate bedroom was absolutely tiny.OH's family did say they had major problems with this and they are very short and not big people. So much so the father-in-law had to wedge a suitcase up the side of the bed otherwise he would not have been able to lay in it. The other bedroom with the 2 (again TINY) single beds were the same, just big enough for very young children. My nephew who is a very small skinny 16 year old had to jam these beds together. Eldest son had to sleep in the lounge area, as he was just too big for them. As usual we walked down to Stoke Gabriel, (the dog loves this walk) about 25 minutes, to the 2 pubs, The Church House Inn and The Castle. We have a joke in the family because the Church House has had the same menu for years, not bad food and reasonably priced. The Castles food is better, but a little bit dearer. Tip! take a torch for on the way back and its slightly uphill.
We watched them build the new toilet block on this site a few years ago, which is very nice, but maybe because its the end of the season, it was showing signs of wear and tear, OH, son and nephew had to use the shower block as the shower in the van was too small!.Although as usual they said the block was very clean as always. Would I stay in one of the 2007 statics again. 'fraid not, everything in it - beds- shower etc is far too small.
Actually OH is talking about buying another VW!

We were looking for a small, friendly campsite to take our boys aged 2 and 3 camping for the first time and found the perfect spot. The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming, we could choose our own pitch and the facilities were marvellous. The showers were free, there were two large family bathrooms, a launderette, a spacious dishwashing area and a small, well-stocked shop with a freezer for our ice blocks, what more could you ask for. The only downside was that the toilets could have done with more frequent cleaning towards the end of our stay when the site got busier with the August Bank Holiday weekend coming up.
Despite almost continuous rain throughout our stay, the ground drained excellently, so no splashing through the mud in wellies on the way to the loo.
Overall, the atmosphere of Higher Well Farm is calm, friendly and quiet. There is no playground but families were perfectly happy to provide their own entertainment. The campsite has beautiful views over rolling countryside and is the perfect location to explore the area around Torbay, with Paignton, Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingswear and Brixham just a few minutes' drive away. Stoke Gabriel itself is also worth a visit, don't miss the shop where you can buy the cider made on Higher Well Farm. If you are looking for a small, welcoming, relaxing campsite, this place is for you. We, including our toddlers, are already talking of going back next year.
