This was not our first choice of campsite, but as usual I left everything to the last minute and couldn't get in the sites I had selected! I went back to the ukcampsite and basically read reviews for sites in Devon. I telephoned on Friday evening and asked if they had any vacancies from Sunday onwards for a week for two tents together and stipulated that I must be near to toilets as I have a kidney problem and have to get up during the night. Bearing in mind that this was the week leading up to the bank holiday we were lucky to get in at all. I found the owner extremely chatty and helpful, and he gave us his web site address and promised to reserve the pitches for us. We didn't arrive till late Sunday afternoon, and true to his word two pitches had 'reserved' notices and a stones throw from the facilities. I say pitches, but there were no marked pitches - so loads of room. Lots of people on this site, but very quiet. Facilities excellent - plenty of showers, never had to queue, spotlessly clean, and large cubicles, plus three large family rooms. Shop tiny but had basics - bread, milk etc, newspapers and fruit/eggs from the farm. Brilliant carvery at the end of the road- very reasonably priced and a family quiz on Tuesdays. Felt like you were miles from anywhere yet Paignton just a couple of miles. Kids will love crabbing at Stoke Gabriel. All in all, really reccomend this site.

Lovely quiet site. Great shower block, with family rooms. Really friendly greeting on arrival. Only downside was that we were quite a walk from the loo's. Best way in from the A385 is to turn right at Collaton St Mary at the Parker's Arms pub - you can't miss the sign to the park then. Excellent traditional cider from Yalberton on the way there!

We have just come back from this campsite and we have had a lovely week. The welcome was wonderful, so friendly and so keen to help. Lovely little shop with large spacious freezer for block freezing. The pitches were a lovely size and we were left to choose where we wanted to go. The shower, toilets and individual handbasin cubicles were lovely and modern and spacious and lovely family bathrooms too. Sinks for washing up in the same block were modern and nice. Lots of drinking water taps. Lots of space for the kids to play. Only complaint - and it wasnt at the campsite was some inconsiderate campers - one lot in a caravan who seemed to put their pair of golden retrievers out really early and leave them to bark which was very annoying and other inconsiderate campers who passed our tent late at night and were not exactly quiet. A lovely campsite which we would visit again without doubt though be warned if you are not a confident trailer, caravan puller the roads are very narrow with lots of bends. Another point to mention is that it is almost impossible to park in Torquay with a roof box on - we had to find a road space up a hill behind the town - saying that TOrquay is well worth a visit to see the boats, crabbing at the harbour and the coastal zoo.

June 2005 Just returned from a lovely week here and can certainly recommend this site. You get the impression you are in the middle of nowhere yet you are only five minutes away from Paington with its many attractions etc. Toilets were clean and liked the idea of mopping up the floor of the shower after having a your shower. Will defineately be staying here again.

August 2004 We orginally only came to this site for a few days, but we enjoyed it so much we stayed for an extra week, its such a friendly site, with a superb shower block. There are some lovely walks in the area with some nice friendly pubs, which serve excellent food. Can not wait to come back next year, keep up the good work Higherwell Farm.

24th july onwards Very central for Torquay-Paignton etc. Excellent shower facilities-family room hairdryers etc. Owners could have been a little more friendly-this was a bit of a let down-stay away from long term caravans as they seem to not like campers!! Ecellent price for facilities £8.80 per night -dogs free.
