We have just returned from a very pleasant weekend staying at this site for the first time. The driveway down to the site is impressive, on arriving at the site the manager opened the barrier for us, it was not obvious where the reception was! The site is obviously a 'work in progress', both managers were very friendly. The shower block is in need of some TLC but as this site is under new ownership I imagine this is on the 'to do' list! The nearby pub 'The Wheatsheaf' was lovely for a drink-the food was also very good, bar staff were very friendly. Nearby Rutland Water is well worth a visit! We will return to this site later in the year as it was in a lovely area, very friendly staff who are obviously working very hard to bring the site up to a very good standard.

What a great weekend had by all! we stayed at Louisa Alice campsite for 4 days and had a great time. The site was lovely and the facilities were clean and well maintained. There is lots to do in the surrounding villages. The staff are always on site and very helpful. We will definitely be returning and I will be recommending this site to all my friends and family.

Lovely site in very pleasant grounds. We read the previous reviews before travelling and were worried as this was our first time out with our 'new to us trailer tent'. The site is a work in progress and it was clear the current management had done a lot already. There intermittent issues with the power supply for the 3 days we were there, but to their credit the people running the site had assured us they had an electrician booked and offered us a free night as compensation. The small road around the site was due to be tarmaced this week with will make a big difference as the current surface is messy and uneven. The toilets were always clean and tidy and the people running the site couldn't have been more helpful when we discovered our tent wasn't fully waterproof. The site doesn't have a park for the kids but that didn't matter as with being a smaller site the kids soon mixed and made their own entertainment. Being a smaller site we never had to worry about the kids wandering too far. No shop on site but again there are supermarkets within 10mins drive. We'll definitely go back soon

Thanks for an enjoyable stay. There is lots of work to be done at this site. However We did enjoy our stay here. The current Wardens are slowly bringing this site into tip top conditions. The road on the site was very muddy but this was due to the tarmac not being laid last week due to heavy rain full. The hook ups kept on overloading but if campers reduce there needs (not pluging in the deep fat chip fryer in ) we would all be able to share the power that was available.
Would we go back to this site. OH YES WE WOULD. Thanks for a lovely time.

Please note this site has been in new ownership from late 2014.
My wife and I personally live on Louisa Alice and have worked tiresomely through the winter months to bring the surroundings up to the standard we have always set throughout our near 20 years as camp site owners.
The previous owners were a larger group that unfortunately didn't have the time to invest, and as such certain reviews reflect that.
Please don't be put off by this, as we have worked tremendously hard for you to enjoy your experience at the newly opened Louisa Alice Camp Site.

I booked the site for the 2nd May bank holiday and was very pleased. My husband read the reviews after I had booked it and was quite put off by what people had to say. Our experience was very positive. My sister's family and young children camped with us in their tent and we had our camper. The site was lovely. It was a smaller site than the majority of ones we had been to but as it's only 2 miles from Oakham and there's a supermarket nearby, we didn't miss having more amenities. It had a lovely picnic area in the middle which was sheltered but trees. The shower block always had plenty of toilet roll and was clean with 3 showers in the ladies which did not get massively busy. The lawn was mown and the and standing pitches did the job! The staff were friendly. I would definitely recommend the site and we would go again.

We booked this site because every other site we tried in the area was fully booked.
When we arrived the drive up from the road was too narrow for a car coming the other way to pass the caravan indeed it would have been difficult for two small cars to pass each other. There was plenty of room to make the road wider if they wished. We found the signs inadequate and had to guess where the reception was, There was a keep let sign low to the ground and a car was parked in front of it making it impossible to see, we did not even see the sign until a couple of days later as a car was parked in front of it every day. We went to the right of the sign and then found the turn into the site very difficult to negotiate.
Once onto the site we could see that the grass had not been cut, the road around the site was little more than compressed earth with many potholes, the pitches were the same earth and many were sloping side to side and back to front. The only place to empty grey water was directly under the drinking water tap and this drain was blocked causing dirty water to accumulate on the surface leaving a black slime around the drain.
There was no toilet paper in the toilets for three days and the toilets were not cleaned for several days, the ladies washroom had a waste bin overflowing with paper towels and these were also on the floor, it was three days before they were removed.
When we arrived, apart from a few permanently sited caravans ( one of which looked derelict ) there were only 2 other pitches occupied, the last two days we were the only ones on the the site and remember this is at a time when all the other sites in the area were fully booked.
We will not be going there again.

Our group of 5 tents stayed at this site over the August bank holiday period. We had all paid for EHU and asked to be grouped together. At some point during the booking process (took a few weeks) the people taking bookings for the site changed (as did the prices)
Anyway we duly arrived and set up our pitches as directed and that was the last time we saw anyone from the 'management'
Throughout the whole 5 days of our stay no one cleaned the toilets. At times there was no toilet paper or soap. The urinals overflowed and the WC got blocked. The showers are a joke as the water pump must be broken and so any more than one person showering and the pressure shuts off leaving water dribbling out of the fixed shower head. So 0/10 for the loo block. Moans via a telephone number to the management did push them into putting loo rolls into the toilets and soap but still no one cleaned the place.
On a side issue there is only one rubbish bin so when that was full bags of rubbish had to be thrown into the bin area and left out in the sun exposed to foxes and the many dozens of wasps that were about the site. One of our party was stung 3 times also one of our parties Westy dog was stung too. There were lots and I mean lots of the vile creatures.
Local pub is rather good and the locals all seemed very friendly folk.
Could be a great site but the owner (who ever that is) needs to get off their bottom and sort some issues out. Pronto. Wont be going there again though.

A very relaxed site. We were given a warm welcome and chose our own spot to pitch our tent. Shower, toilet, washing up and chemical toilet waste facilities are more than adequate for the size of the site. The overall standard of cleanliness was good.
The Noel Arms, within walking distance in Langham village serves good pub food at reasonable prices. This is a site to which we would certainly return.

When I originally tried to view the web site I was met with error messages stating that Ranksborough were having technical issues. Little did I know that those issues were also to include the running of the campsite.
We were met on site by a member of staff who informed me on arrival that the camp site was fully booked and that they had to turn some people away. This lead me to believe that this was a very popular venue and we were in for a wonderful time. Oops that was a mistake on my behalf, as immediately upon using the toilet and shower facilities we were not able to wash our hands due to the lack of either a bar of soap or liquid soap. Also, there was a problem with the water pressure, on each occasion I had a shower, I was able to soak my body but trying to rinse off was practically impossible, as due to multiple use age of the showers led to you having to wait for the water pressure to return, this could be anything from 3 to 5 mins, not good if you have a small child in the shower as was the case with our group. The cleanliness was definitely also an issue. However as this was day one we thought that maybe the staff were due to visit the facilities and clean the area and replace the missing items as they went through the building. This was not the case as the soap was nowhere to be found. Unfortunately other items failed to appear, toilet tissue was also in short supply so short in fact that we were not able to find any by day 2 and in fact our group decided in the interests of hygiene we would provide our own toilet paper and liquid soap so an unexpected visit to the local shops was required. A call was made to the site manager who was later found to be sweeping (not mopping, in fact I never saw anyone mop out the shower blocks throughout our stay) out the toilets and replacing the above items. One of our group who challenge her re the poor facilities, was advised that the cleaners had let them down ( surely it is the managements job to check to make sure the facilities were in order?) upon challenging the management my friend was told that the management did not want any complaints. Well tough we are complaining, not only was the lack of hygiene extremely poor, the facilities for waste disposal was also poor. There was only one medium sized commercial refuse bin and a green wheelie bin. We arrived on Friday the 23rd and by late Saturday 24th the bins were full to over flowing! Not only did it seem that the refuse was to be kept in a cramped area but also the tents. We had booked 5 EHU pitches, but the areas we were provided with were anything but adequate, the land was very uneven, making it difficult to pitch our tents, other tents were slotted into any available space whether there was enough room or not. During our visit we never saw any staff on the grounds at anytime. At other campsites we have visited, we have always had passing visits from staff or groundsmen/women checking to make sure that all was well and asking if anyone needed anything. You are very much left to your own devices, which is fine if the site is well looked after and tended to but at Ranksborough again this is not the case. It is such a shame that the management are not taking more time to make every effort to make sure that visitors are comfortable, this could be a very good campsite, but due to the lack of care from the management we will definitely not be visiting Ranksborough
