We spent a lovely couple of days at Ranksborough Hall. The managers of the site were so friendly and helpful; when we ran out of gas, they searched for a local dealer and telephoned them to ask them to stay open for a few extra minutes so that we could reach them before closing time. The toilet and shower block was spotlessly clean and the site is beautifully cared for and decorated with hanging baskets.

Our family came to stay on this park in June, we were welcomed by friendly wardens and quickly shown to our pitch. The grounds were immaculate and the site in general was very pretty, the shower and toilet blocks were very clean and well kept. Location was excellent and there was lots to do in the area for both children and adults. There is no doubt we will be returning very shortly to this beautiful part of England!

Recently spent 9 days on this site, first impressions, the driveway to site: beautiful, toilets:very good facilities, , friendly service:fair, now for the site, unkept:
Poor roadway full of pot holes, no grass cutting all the time we were there very long and when wet (as it was a couple of days we were there) it was dreadfully. The on line booking forms were not checked by office staff therefore prices were argued over between the warden the office and myself, a case of the right hand doesn't no what left hand is doing. Only one waste water and elson point and even that broke at the end.
One thing is for sure we will never use this site ever again.

Management response: Please note this site has been in new ownership from late 2014.
My wife and I personally live on Louisa Alice and have worked tiresomely through the winter months to bring the surroundings up to the standard we have always set throughout our near 20 years as camp site owners.
The previous owners were a larger group that unfortunately didn't have the time to invest, and as such certain reviews reflect that.
Please don't be put off by this, as we have worked tremendously hard for you to enjoy your experience at the newly opened Louisa Alice Camp Site. |

I stayed at this site for 3 nights again, having stayed here the same time last year, due to it being so close to Rutland Water. I found the site to be well-kept and the facilities were very good. The caravan pitches are around the outside of a circular one-way road, and I was given a choice of where to camp within the grassy centre.
There is free unlimited hot water for washing up (sinks outside toilet block) and also for sinks and showers. As mentioned in previous reviews, the showers are very high up so it is almost impossible to shower without getting your hair wet, and there is also no temperature control as it is a push button, although these are only very minor minuses. A problem I found last year was that if several people were showering at the same time, the water pressure couldn't cope, and the shower was reduced to a trickle down the wall. I went for a shower early in the morning this time, and was usually the only one there, so this problem did not occur and has maybe been fixed.
There are no facilities for children, which for me is a big plus! I found this to be a very quiet site with a friendly warden, although it was a bit pricey as I had to pay for 2 people and a tent even though I was on my own, so for that reason my rating is a bit low.

Just returned from 3 nights here, not the most tidy site but grass mown and toilet, shower and washing up area very clean.
Poor signage for the site, went straight past, when we did find it thought we were entering someone's private drive.
Unfortunately the showers are very small and even the smallest in our group struggled and no separate private area for a good wash (as some of us were too big for the showers.
The area is great with good food at the local pub within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful, don't think we will be visiting again, sorry.

We booked this site the night before on spec as we were visiting relations nearby. I told the lady we would be there around 7 pm, she said no problem, reception closed at 5 but she lived on the site.
When we arrived, we were a bit confused, as when you come up the drive there are various areas of residences, then eventually we found the touring park opposite the old Hall. The barrier was down, but we couldn't find anyone to let us in. Luckily some people were just nearby and they gave us the codes for the barrier and toilet. The warden caught up with us in the morning and apologised for being out.
The site is flat and circular, the road has marked pitches off each side, each with a patch of grass, and a gravel section, plus EHU. The centre area is freely available for picnics, and there was a small tent pitched on there too. Everywhere was clean, the grass was short. It was very peaceful and quiet.
The toilet block is near the entrance, nice and clean, warm and spacious. The shower cubicle had a door to stop the water splashing your things, but only a curtain to stop anyone taking them. The shower spray was very high up so it was difficult to shower without wetting your hair. Water was nice and hot though.
Washing up was under cover outside. All other facilities were in that area. There is a disabled facility too.
We didn't investigate the reception office, which seems to be the sales office for the residences, or the door marked 'shop'.
Nearby is Oakham, a pretty town, and Rutland Water where we cycled.
The site was moderately priced for the sort of facilities we prefer.

We called and booked a few days in advance. When we arrived they knew nothing of our booking. Something to do with the Hall sometimes taking bookings and so do the wardens.
The wardens were very polite and helpful even though they weren't expecting us.
We were pitched in amongst the caravans, which we thought was a bit odd, but after a walk around the field we were quote glad as the rest of the field was very patchy and not as previous reviewers had commented.
When we arrived after a hot and sticky drive, we found the toilet/shower block had the heating on. It's Aug and we felt this was a complete waste of energy / money and way too hot. After a couple of people had had their showers in the morning it was very uncomfortable to enter the building.
The luxurious shower block was OK, with 3 showers and 3 toilets. We found that only one person at a time could shower as all power was lost and you were left with just a trickle. This was the same in the mens as for the ladies.
Apart from all that we had a very enjoyable weekend.

Booked this camp site by phone and explained that I would not arrive until 9pm. Having struggled to actually find the camp-site which was not that well signed and arriving at 9. 30pm. I was surprised to find Lin & Mick The wardens waiting for me to let me in. They were very nice people and fully understood why I was late.
The actual camp site was very well managed and toilets and showers very clean. Would recommend this site to anyone. Price for tent in my opinion was dear but did not mind paying on this occasion.

Thought we would test out a new tent and somewhere fairly local so chose Rankborough Hall.
We were very pleasantly surprised, lovely drive up to Hall and site was very well kept. A credit to the wardens.
Facilities were spotless, great for campers with few gadgets as outdoor sinks and hot water was a bonus for such a small site.
Langham is also a picture postcard village and Rutland water is also only 6 miles away.
Thoroughly recommend it. For families with active (noisy!) children I'd advise to check on their child policy though, no ball games etc. The site is private and surrounded by trees, so expect natural wildlife sounds, this is the great outdoors.
We'll be back.

We arrived unannounced Saturday morning and were welcomed by the friendly wardens.
This small, quiet campsite was a clean, well managed venue for a relaxing time in a beautiful setting.
The toilet/shower blocks were very clean and accessible.
There isn't a children's playground but children were welcome.
The only thing that we felt this campsite was slightly missing was that there was no shop and so you needed to go off-site for supplies.
We will definitely return and would recommend this campsite to anyone.
