We spent the weekend here and really enjoyed our stay. The owners are very friendly and helpful and the site is well kept. We like to park up and then take the dogs for a long walk with a pub stop along the way but this wasn't really possible unless we'd followed the long, straight path alongside the base down into Upper Heyford. The footpath access is limited from this site but we did walk through some woods nearby which eventually link to Kirtlington.
We drove to the station carpark at Lower Heyford (to ensure room to park our van) and enjoyed a walk along the canal. There is a bistro at the wharf and a pub in the village. Overall we think this site is better suited to those with a car because it's easier to drive out to local places of interest. There is a bus service into Bicester stopping outside the site.
You can stay late on your day of departure for £5 extra which we felt was good value as we virtually had the place to ourselves.
Once you are away from the area of the old military base the scenery is beautiful. Access from the M40 is good and road noise is not a problem. The only noise problem we had was from someone playing electric guitar (badly) on the adjoining park home site on saturday afternoon!

Stayed at Heyford Leys for the Spring bank holiday. I had booked many months in advance so I was disappointed to be placed in the hard standing pitches. This was a gravelled area at the entrance to the grassed park, which looked lovely from afar
The plus side was we were near the toilets but it did feel like we were parked up waiting to get into the real event
Toilets are basic but kept clean and showers are in a separate block and only 2 of them in the ladies so I did wait most mornings for availability.
The lady who met us was extremely friendly and helpful and kindly printed us details of the P&R to Oxford. We used Water Eaton as Pear Tree closed earlier in the afternoon.
The campsite isn't near any shops, pubs or takeaways, so you need to drive or cook in.
Would we go back again? Yes if we had a pitch in the park and not in the hardstanding area.

One of the nicest site I have stay upon, quite friendly welcome, shown to pitch, etc
Even though a little off the beaten track, stopped for 1 night on the way back from Weymouth, slept like a log, shower block are basic and above average well kept, very roomy, not knocking your elbows,
Minor gripe - no where to put or hang your shower gel
Well laid out no too cramped but you have to share with tents!

Spent three nights here over the Easter weekend. Lovely site, we were the only tent in the field although there were plenty of caravans. Considering prior to our visit there had been a fair amount of rain and including our first night the ground was soft but not at all boggy.
Toilet block was always clean and never had to wait for the showers or the washing up sink.
It is a lovely site, it is next to the old and disused RAF site which is looking a bit worse for wear in places. It is ideally situated for exploring and Oxford isn't far, we used the Park and Ride which cost us £4 for a family. There is a little shop just 2 mins walk from the site or there is a large Tescos at Bicester which is about a 10 minute drive.
Overall we would thoroughly recommend this site and we will definitely go back another time.

What a lovely, quiet, secluded, basic site. Not for those looking for loads to do around but perfect for us as it was healf way for us to meet our friends from up North. We were in the bottom field which was great. Only 6 tents, huge pitches, which I think is fully booked, and loads of room for the kids to play.
Small bridge and stream there for playing pooh sticks and small pond for the patient fishermen.
I loved the view of the open corn fields from the toilet block! Never saw anyone else in the loos and no queque for the shower. They were always clean though.
Lower Heyford nearby is a must with its lovely canal walk from the station to the small bridge which you can open for the barges to go through. A big hit for the boys.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely, peaceful site.
Pitches were well spaced and the site owner was very helpful in assisting us to our pitch.
The shower and toilet blocks were clean and well maintained but only had two showers for each male and female. Luckily the site wasn’t too busy so we didn’t have to queue for showers but fear that this may not be the case when the site is full. The showers themselves were very spacious but there are no curtains to separate the dry area which did become rather wet whilst showering.
There is a small pool on the site ideal for an afternoon’s fishing although be warned it is very weedy and, unless you’re very accurate, the odd float or two maybe lost. That being said the fish are in good condition and there seems to be plenty of them
In the village of Upper Heyford, only a couple of minutes by car, we found The Barley Mow. The staff and customers were very friendly and offered us some great local advice. The food was superb and reasonably priced and the beer was also reasonably priced. It was in this pub that we learned about the “Aunt Sally League”, a game local to Oxford involving 6 wooden sticks and a dolls head, and has to be seen to be believed. Matches are on Wednesday nights at 8.30 p.M. So if you get chance please go and take a look. It was certainly an eye opener for us !
We spent a wonderful day in Oxford and found the “Park and Ride” system was superb. Parking was free and a “2 to go” ticket (return for 2 adults) cost only £4.00.
We were very lucky with the weather so our grass pitch was ideal for lounging in the sunshine in the tranquil setting of this site and we would recommend this site for anyone who wants to get away from it all for some peaceful chill out time.

Just back from a lovely few days at this site.
The site is small, but pitches large which is so refreshing these days. The toilets and shower blocks(free and lovely and warm) are very clean and well looked after. Plenty of space in the showers for changing etc so your clothes are kept dry. There is a freezer for campers use.
Locally it is quite depressing to see the airbase looking neglected and boarded up but if you drive onwards to the villages of Upper Heyford and Lower Heyford you will be met by beautiful Cotswold villages. The Bell in Lower Heyford is a good spot for a drink as is Kizzies close to the train station. Here you can get enormous breakfasts and baguettes etc overlooking the canal. Both these spots are worth a visit.
All in all, we had a lovely few days at Heyford Leys and will return. This is camping as is should be!

This site is so welcome when travelling the length of the motorway system. We used it going south and on our return north. It is only 5 to 10 minutes from the M40. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. As we were just passing through we stayed on a hard standing area with about 4 electric points. There is also a grassed area if you prefer although we aren't able to comment on this as we didn't use it. There are one or two people staying there who set off for work fairly early in the morning but we didn't experience any problems with this. Very peaceful, surrounded by fields and trees. The toilets and showers were very clean at all times. We would definitely stay there again.

Heyford Leys is situated next to an army base that is now disused. It is very quiet and peaceful and away from any traffic nose. Once on the camping fields you would not have any idea that you are next to an old army base. The site has hard standings and two camping fields, one with electric hook ups. Situated at the end of the site is a small pond where campers can fish free of charge. We are only amateurs but had lots of bites and caught many fish, all of which we returned to the pond.
The toilets and showers were clean and basic. The only criticism was the lack of soap in the toilets. There is a freezer for the use of campers and an undercover washing up area. The site owners and Dave the helper were all very friendly as were the other campers. There are no children's play facilities on the site however there is a park for young and older children within a five minute walk.
The canal is only a short distance away and we hired a canal boat for the day. It was great fun and we had an excellent day for our first experience on the water. There is a shop close to the site which sells the essentials and the town of Bicester is a ten minute drive away where we can recommend the Wah Hong chinese take away which is situated in the market square.
This is a great little site and we will be visiting again in the future.

To Find Site:- From junction 10 of the M40 take B430 towards Middleton Stoney. After about a mile and a half turn right at campsite sign, also signed for The Heyfords. The campsite is immediately of the left, just past the traffic calming as you enter Upper Heyford.
Heyford Leys was originally a CL type site but has, over the years, developed into a small campsite. The owners give you a very warm welcome. It would be a handy overnight stop off the M40, however you are asked to phone ahead rather than just turn up, particularly at weekends. It is perhaps best suited for weekends rather than long stays. The site is sandwiched between a Park Home site on one side and, across a field, what used to be the US Air Force base on the other. It has around 25 pitches, 5 of which are on hardstanding. The grass pitches are open from Easter but the hardstanding pitches are open all year. They are all of a generous size with electric points nearby. The toilet block, whilst perfectly clean, is functional rather than luxurious but does have very large shower cubicles. There appears to be no low level waste disposal so it could be difficult to empty the Wastemaster type containers. There are no children's play facilities. The central area of the site seems to be taken up by some permanent caravans occupied by workman during the week. Full payment is required on booking. The site will accept Rallies. During our stay, beginning of April we were the only touring unit on site which was a bit surprising as other sites we have been this year have been fairly full. This might be to do with the pricing structure of one price all year, £14 including electrics, which makes it reasonable value in the main season but a bit expensive in the off season.
The Oxford Canal is not far from the site and you can while away time watching the boats go through the lock at Upper Heyford, for the fit a reasonable walk from the site. Lower Heyford Wharf is also interesting and there is a handy cafe where you enjoy a coffee and watch the boats. There are pubs in both Upper and Lower Heyford. The City of Oxford is not so far away and the Park and Ride facilities are well signed from all directions. Closer is Bicester where there are supermarkets and of course the Bicester Village Outlet Shopping Centre.
