We stayed here over the Silverstone weekend, very quiet site. Quite a few there for the F1. Clean toilets and showers. The buttons don't stay depressed for too long but not a problem. Really friendly people who own the site nd were always ready to talk. Would visit again, also after the bad rain this year they were not water logged.

What a lovley site. The way I feel camping should be. The owners friendly, helpful and chatty. Came around every morning to see if everything ok. Not alot of facilitys but two nice size fields where kids and adults alike played and relaxed together. Lovely base for Oxford and surrounding areas. Think they have changed things as showers were free. (and great) Will go back.

Stayed for 3 blisteringly hot nights before work dragged me back. This was a trip down memory lane for me, as I was stationed at the adjacent airbase in the 70's. Kevin the site owner was one of the kids that used to play football in the field next to our barracks! Things have changed since some of the postings. The toilet/shower block is very good, scrubbed daily, and never more than a 2 minute walk wherever you're pitched. Free showers. The pitches are all flat and grassy. Small enough that it shouldn't ever feel crowded, plenty of space between pitches. Two close by pubs, Barley Mow in Upper Heyford village and Horse and Groom in Caulcott (quite literally across the field from Heyford Leys, but no footpath). Best place for food is the Bell in Lower Heyford, very friendly, service is great. VG pub grub. Tesco's in Bicester, less than 10 minute drive. What else, lovely stay, will be back next year.

We spent a very pleasant weekend at this modest but comfortable site. The owners were very friendly when we phoned up to book, and sent a receipt and tourist information about the area in the post. The site is flat and grassy with a (fenced-off) fishing pond at the lower end near the tent area, and a shallow stream runs down one side, which delighted the small boys in our party! There was a pile of rubble in the field opposite, which didn't do much for the view, but it didn't bother us too much. The loo block, while not palatial, had lots of hot water and was freshly painted. There were even flowers in the ladies. This campsite is near the old airbase which seems largely deserted, but we drove down to the nearby canal for a walk, which was very pretty.

August 2005 I visited with my family and found a small and very friendly site. It was clean, very well maintained and relaxed. Contrary to previous comments, the shower block is of a very high standard - two male and two female - and on a small site it was plenty. I would recommend this site and would happily visit again.

July 2005 Lovely campsite - and very friendly owner! Very laid back atmosphere.
The facilities were very good -new shower and toilet block which were kept very clean.
The 3 legged cat is still there and has two friends.
Would definitely stay again - probably for longer than the weekend.
Excellent location for getting to the Bicester shopping outlet - if thats you thing. Certainly was mine and my nieces!

October 2004 Laura's right, Heyford Leys was indeed an American Airbase. I was stationed there from 1972 to 1976, if fact a lived in billets that are in the adjacent bit of land (the bit with the trees that follow the fence).
I think the Three Horseshoes is closed now (there are some memories there!), and yes the long haul up camp Road from the village is spooky ... the ghosts of GI's who staggered back from the pub I should imagine.
Lovely canalside walks can be be picked up in Heyford village, and the train station at Lower Heyford is still in operation.
Lots of wonderful memories of the place.
By the way, the shower block Laura describes is BETTER than we had inthe 70's!!

August 2003 This campsite is very pretty and relaxed, the owner is very friendly and helpful. The pitches are very large and well spaced out.
The toilet blocks could definately do with a face lift, although they were clean and loo roll was provided. The shower/laundry block, however, left alot to be desired. 20p charge for a shower, and only 2 available. Once the long queue had gone down, you entered one of the shower rooms, and the floor was soaking wet, with only a dirty window sill to put your things on so they (hopefully) didnt get wet.
The website says that in the immediate area there are two pubs. This didn't seem strictly true. A good 20 minute walk gets you to a pub in the village, and we never found the other one!! The campsite is situated on the edge of what seems to be a derilict American Air Base, and it is very spooky walking back up the hill to the campsite from the pub on a dark night, and there are not footpaths all the way.
All in all, we found this campsite slightly over priced at £8 per night.
Look out for the adorable 3 legged cat, and give her a stroke from me when you see her!!
