Just returned from a lovely 3 day break at Strid Wood. The Wardens are so welcoming and helpful and never seem to stop working. They keep the place spotless.
Set the sat nav and must say the message ‘you have reached your destination’ was a bit premature as the site is another 2 miles further on. No mobile phone signal (bliss) but the wifi works a treat.
Bit disappointed with Bolton Abbey Estate though. Paid £7 to park up and asked if the dog could go anywhere. Yes he could but not in any shops/cafes etc. The Devonshire Pub/hotel and spa won’t let dogs in the bar area so when we ate out we went to the Bull at Broughton where the food was magnificent.
The site has easy access, and is adjacent to Strid Wood where you can walk for miles.
The pitches are excellent. Wide and have electricity hook up. You need a tv cable as the signal is poor and is still analogue (April 2013). The recycle area/ water points etc are easily accessible.
We will definitely go again and can see why its one of the most popular sites on the circuit.

This was our first visit to the Dales. We have had many lovely holidays in Yorkshire so expectations were high.
The drive over from Lancashire was straight forward, watch out for the narrow arch on the approach to Bolton Abbey. Obviously wide enough to get through but at first glance it’s a bit scary.
The warden we met on arrival was very nice, our daughter was staying over for one night and she was allowed to park her car on the pitch alongside ours.
The site is set on 3 levels, we choose the pitch next to the toilet block as my husband has problems with mobility. There was a slight negative though, the noise from the fan but only noticeable at night.
We have stopped on some pretty sites, this was not one of them. Don’t get me wrong, its well maintained, all hard standing pitches with very good drainage ( we had a lot of rain) It just seemed tired. Toilet block up to the usual CC standards.
There is a dog walk, all grass so didn't use it much. There isn't any need as the country walks are accessible just next to the site entrance
You usually get one or 2 drivers on site who have no concern about others around them, here the majority totally disregarded the site speed limit.
The Bluebell tearooms is situated just outside the site, they sell lovely cakes and were just starting to offer full meals, the weekend we were leaving. Behind the tearooms is access to several walks, short and long. On our first day we spotted a deer, relaxing in the bushes, never to be seen again unfortunately. The weather wasn't on our side, and rather than feel sorry for ourselves we decided to get the waterproofs on both us and dogs and get walking. Fantastic even for us novices.
I love my smart phone so was deeply depressed when I discovered there is no phone signal and I wasn't prepared to pay the CC WiFi prices. Got my fix on our walks to the Cavendish Pavillion or when out and about. Visited Grassington, fabulous sweet shop (Chocolace) especial if you like Liquorice. Then to Kettlewell, weather was wicked, cold, wet and snow on the hills. Called in the Bluebell Inn, had a very nice lunch and quick internet fix (free wifi)
We will definitely visit this site again hopefully choosing a time when the weather will be good to us.

This was our first visit to Strid Wood and what a little gem of a site it was. We first had to negotiate the arch at Bolton Priory - ht 10ft 9ins x wth 9ft 6ins which was a little daunting as our motorhome is 10th but it was done with ease.
The wardens were very friendly and helpful and the reception also sells the basics of milk and bread etc. The hardstanding pitches were a good size and tv changes over to digital this month.
There is an addition of ducks wandering around the site - very friendly and not afraid to venture up to you at all. The facilities were as expected at caravan club sites very clean and could not be faulted in any way.
The walks around the estate and the river were excellent - just don't forget to take your camera as round every corner is a lovely view. Walks along the river to Bolton Abbey are well worth doing. You might even get to see some deer!
We had a different walk for each of the 3 days we were there. There was no play area for children but the ducks would keep them occupied! It would be more likely they would be out walking or visiting places with parents.
Skipton is about 8 miles away and is well worth a visit especially on Market day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) but it does get very busy.
The Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream Palour - signposted from the A59 has some fantastic flavours of ice cream to try and a brilliant play area for young children.
All in all this is a site that I would certainly recommend and we shall be visiting again very soon

Just come back from 3 nights at Strid Wood. Had a wonderful time, there's so much to do in the area.
The site is very clean, tidy and well run. Pitches are all hardstanding and you need rock pegs. Toilets are accessed by a key, which can be a bit annoying when you forget to take it with you. The site has barriers to let you in and out. There is a small shop in reception selling the essentials and a payphone which you will need to phone home as there's no mobile phone signal. They haven't gone digital yet so if you want TV you need to use analogue. They do have aerial hook ups but no good for my freeview dongle on the laptop.
With it being a Caravan Club site there's the no ball games rule, but my kids played badminton on our pitch. I did see some other people playing boule too, which would have been really good on the gravel hardstanding.
The adjacent woodland is full of all sorts of wildlife, I was lucky to see a deer twice when taking the dogs for a walk in the mornings. There's lots of footpaths taking you up to Bolton Abbey and in the surrounding area.

Just returned from a long weekend visit here - our second in recent years! I won't bother repeating all the previous comments - it's just a fabulous site! Will be one of our favourites when planning for future years. Only down side was no connectivity for any mobile phone networks - some would see this as a bonus I'm sure but I like to keep in touch with young daughter and elderly Mum whilst away! Short drive to Skipton which is also a lovely market town with a really good 'old type' market on Saturday. We had fabulous fish and chip meal on Saturday night at Bizzies, adjacent to one of the main car parks - restaurant is just behind the chip shop. Well worth a visit.

This is a lovely site set amongst trees. We have stayed here twice in the last year, the facilities are of the usual high standard you would expect from the Caravan Club and the Wardens were really nice and helpful. We really like the location, it is so peaceful and perfect for just getting up, enjoying eggs and bacon before setting off for a lovely walk around the Bolton Abbey Estate. If you're going out in the car, turning right from the site will take you to a lovely village, about 10 minutes away with a nice pub and lovely grassed area by the riverside, very pretty. The town of Skipton is also close by and well worth a visit.

On the approach to the site, when you get onto the B6160, and are passing through the village you will come to the arch way that presents no problem to pass through as long as you lower your speed and take care, (check it out on Google Earth). We used this site for our first weekend away to check out the caravan, the pitches are large and flat. The warden was very helpful, with a friendly manner. There is a small shop on site for milk, bread, etc. The toilet / shower blocks are very clean, to the C.C. Spec. There are lots of walks immediately of the site, we took our little dog for a long walk to Bolton Abbey, with good weather it's a great walk. If you go on Bolton Abbey website you can download a map of the trails. And don't forget to take your camera.
We called at the Cavendish Pavillion restaurant for lunch, and I was disappointed with my meal, So much so that I took it back and on which they refunded my money. All in all, a great place to visit, we will be going back to check out the surrounding area, as we would have liked to visit Skipton.

Top notch Caravan Club site and great location. Big pitches, good toilet block and wash facilities. Wi-Fi connection available – but cost steep (£ 5.00 for 5 hrs. As part of the new Caravan Club facilities). Friendly and helpful warden. Good walking in area. Shop on site only has basic provisions and no newspapers. Definitely recommend this 5* site and will be back.

Just back from 5 nights at this site. Not long enough! Lovely site with excellent shower block etc. Lots of great walks from site. Bolton Abbey is a must as is Grassington.
Agree with all previous reviews. Pitches are large and flat with plenty of room for car, caravan and full awning. Weather was great when we were there which obviously helps.
We spent late afternoons sitting in sun enjoying our surroundings. Arch at Bolton Abbey is tight but taken slowly is not an issue. Will definitely return.

I will be short and sweet. I can only agree with previous comments. The site is a credit to its keepers. We stayed for 4 nights and would have stopped longer had I not been going to work the next day.
Kids loved it (age 3 and 5), very safe for them. Even though there is no play area, they still found loads to do. Most of the time chasing ducks. The walks, directly from the site are breathtaking, bluebells and wild garlic in abundance. The facilities are immaculate.
Needless to say we will be returning very soon.
