Lovely site, with the most friendly and helpful of wardens. As has already been said, excellent location for walks. Whatever your fitness level or experience. As an earlier reviewer has already said, try the Elm Tree at Embsay.
Can't wait to go again. A shining example for a caravan site, caravan club or otherwise.

Managed to get into this site as it's always booked up for weekends.
Smaller than I expected but well laid out with a central amenity block.
Excellent walks from the site, or even drives out into the coutryside. All usual CC standards.
No play area for the kids but there's a 'den' in the woods for them to enjoy.
I'll return again only if the 'wild' cockerals that roam the site have gone. 'Cockadoodledoo' every morning from 5 am. Takes it's toll !

A lovely little site amidst the exceptional scenery of Wharfedale. Not surprisingly full at weekends, with several million people living within an hour's drive, so book early or try for a few nights mid-week.
Plenty of walking of course, but even inexperienced walkers can venture up or down easy paths along the Wharfe up and down stream from the site.
Excepting the presumably one-off, very noisy wedding disco in a marquee 100 yards away on our final night, the site is very quiet at night once the traffic on the adjacent road has diminished.
Visit Harlow Carr RHS garden from here, and another lovely garden at Parcevall Hall nearby. Take the wonderful high road to Hawes and buy Wensleydale cheese from the creamery - stop at St Michael and All Angels church at Hubberholme on the way, which JB Priestley described as "one of the most pleasant places in the world"; and find your own favourite Dales pubs.
Good value and quality pub food nearby at the Elm Tree at Embsay - a little smoky but that will change after 1st July! The Devonshire Arms restaurant at Bolton Abbey will put a dent in your wallet though, as will Betty's legendary Cafes in Ilkley and Harrogate, whose cakes will do your BMI no good either.

A truly lovely location and site, booking early reqd for weekend stays, the amenities blocks can only be described as immaculate, its mainly a wooded site, the majority of pitches being on fairly level hard-standings, there is a very small shop for absolute basics but other than that no opportunities exist for provisions in the vicinity. There is however a couple of places that do food, The Priests House (booking reqd) The Cavendish Pavillion (ditto), the Devonshire Arms (again), but all are on the expensive side. The best advice is to take your own provisions leave the MH or car on site, walk and enjoy the fantastic surroundings, leave the driving to the daytrippers!

A truly lovely site. Book early or you will never get in! Well sheltered, immaculately kept, lots of wildlife, not too big, remarkably peaceful even when busy (which it usually is). The only thing we disliked was needing a key for the toilet block, but that's because the entrance is near a public car park and apparently some people are cheeky! We stayed here 5 nights and never moved the car, walking every day within the Bolton Abbey estate. You can buy (on site) a booklet of wonderful walks of varying lengths which will keep you happy for days, all starting just outside the site. We now need to go back to visit the area around, as the site is very well placed for the whole of the southern Dales.

If you are looking for peace and quiet and all you want to wake up to is the sound of the birds (even a woodpecker!) then this is the site for you, nature in abundance on your door step. It was Easter and it was full though you would never have known, as it was so quiet. The site has the usual good standard caravan club clean facilities and lovely hot showers. There is no shop and you will have to travel to Skipton which is 81/2 miles if you need anything, although there is a visitors centre next to the site that sell ice creams, teas e.t.c.
Pitches are (very) hard standings so take your rock pegs if you have an awning. There is a small dog walk only but the walks from the site are fantastic, most are wheelchair friendly, not too strenuous, and there are lots of picnic areas by the river.
There is no play area for children and it appeared that most of the people that stay here are mainly couples. We would visit again for sure, but it does get booked up very quickly at weekends so advanced booking is a must.

Stayed on Strid Wood for three nights. Absolutely beautiful site. The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean. Be careful of the barrier it does tend to come down a bit quick. Lot's of walks and places to go IE Skipton embassy, Steam Railway Grassington. You will enjoy it if you like walking

We visited this site in early August it was very well maintained and the toilets and showers were spotless. We found it very peaceful and pretty with some lovely walks down to the river. Will definitely be booking to go again very soon. Highly recommended.

December 2000 Brilliant, high standards from the Caravan Club. On the lovely Bolton Abbey estate, owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire(Chatsworth). Take your walking boots, this is walking country, with many from the site itself. A short stroll along the river Wharfe from the site will reward you with a cup of tea or a full meal at the cavendish pavillion. Excellent site.
