Just got back from 2 weeks here. Read previous reviews prior to going, however have to disagree with most.

Toilet Blocks are in need of updating, as mentioned in other reviews only 6 ladies showers available and only 2 work, the rest are a dribble of water. They were not clean and we often had a 15 minute wait to shower on a morning, eventually we showered in our caravan.

The pitches are very tight and wardens don't pitch well, as we were told to pitch how we pleased, which meant that although we pitched as sensibly as we could, we had a tent looking out onto the side of our van. This can't have been pleasant for the tent either.

There is a pool which is clean and sometimes has a life guard on.

Play areas are good depending on where you are pitched as we could here the children on the football pitch til gone 10.30pm on an evening. We also have children, so am not opposed to children having fun, but at the expense of people trying to relax on an evening without hearing screams and shouts so late on.

There is a fishing lake on site, charged at £6 per day, but you can fish for free on the river Yar which runs through the site and has some big fish to catch. Kept my husband and kids happy many an evening.

This site cost for 2 adults and 2 children (7 & 12) £390 for 2 weeks. High season is £32.50 per day.

On a last point, Island lovely lots to do, beach at Yaverland accepts dogs and is stunning. Car parking on beach side.

Sandown a bit disappointing seemed run down. Recommend the Island but not Sandown or definitely not Adgestone site.

Adgestone C&CC site is situated on the east of the island just outside Sandown. First impressions are just how tighty packed the site is - they've really squeezed as many pitches in as they can. Explore further away from the main road through the site and things feel more secluded and spacious, but where we were put, backing on to the younger kids playground, it felt very busy and crowded. Parents of young kids should try to get a pitch away from the road through the site as the 5mph limit seems totally ignored by many, and the road sees a near-constant stream of traffic.

Washing facilities-wise, this site is just not up to Club standards. The shower/loo blocks are very outdated, but are reasonably clean. The showers in particular though are a real let down with little more than a dribble of water sometimes.

The site has 2 good playgrounds and an excellent outdoor heated pool, as well as a shop and takeaway, and there is wifi to purchase vouchers for with signal near the site entrance. As an added bonus there's also a BT Openzone signal in that area, so if you're an iPhone user, or have BT broadband at home, you'll be able to login to this for free.

VERY IMPORTANT - do not follow satnav to get to this site as it will send you up a tiny lane which is not suitable for caravan or motorhome. We were very lucky not to get stuck, and acquired a few scratches as a result of this mistake.

Within a 15m walk or short cycle ride of the site is a local Spar, and a little further on is Sandown Station from where trains run to Ryde and also connect to the island's steam railway. A little further again and you're at the beach, all very do-able by bike (though there are some hills en route).

Despite initial reservations, we actually quite liked this site, and it is certainly very family-friendly, with the pool a great feature. However, the C&CC really need to seriously update the shower and loo facilities, or reduce the price to reflect their state.

We have just returned from this site having had a fabulous time.

The facilities as detailed by other reviewers are indeed dated and in need of renewal by the club but are kept very clean. The block away from reception gives greater room for dressing otherwise expect to get very wet clothes! For the price of the site and the fact it is a CCC you expect better quality facilities but it didn't detract. Note this is a big site and there are few showers so plan your time carefully.

Laundry £3.50 per wash by token.

There are two play areas for different age groups and plenty of open space.

Swimming pool super and well kept but towards the end of our break it was packed and this went on until gone 8pm the noise of which could be heard all over the site.

The shop and take way not over priced and adequate if you need more Morrison’s is only a 5 minute drive away or Sandown for Sainsbury’s.

Site is almost on the Sandown to Newport cycle route so bikes are a must for exploring – it took us about 15 minutes to get to the seafront (up hill) at Sandown.

Pitching on site is a little strange and we ended up being blocked in by tents and had to seek assistance to get off the pitch to avoid damaging any fellow campers!

Worth visiting – Needles (take the tesco vouchers for the saver tickets), Osborne House, Godshill Model Village to name a few.

Over all if you can cope with dated facilities an excellent spot with very helpful and considerate wardens.

Just came back from this site and thought I would write a review while it is still fresh in my mind.

Site is great- has lots to offer- heated swimming pool especially was great for children. The site also offers a few little games like Giant Jenga and Chess for older campers. Although the site is quite large- you wouldn't know it as it is sectioned off into smaller areas which makes the site very peaceful.

Toilet block was very clean- however it could do with being updated as a little dated. When we arrived the site was not full- I can imagine the facilities getting very crowded in the height of summer due to the shortage of showers- ladies only has 2 showers in one block and 4 in the other. The Site did have several fantastic Family rooms which offered a large space for families to shower and change as well as a separate baby change area- so great for families.

Along side the pool is a toddler play area, shop and cafe. Cafe and shop were not open often while we were there- shop-mainly morning and cafe wed-fri-sat evening however both were great. Otherside of the site is a large play area for older children and a ball field and fishing lake.

There is a large Morrisons about 2 miles down the road in Lake and an even larger Tesco's at Ryde- a few miles on. Sandown beach is great for a day out when the weathers nice- and I can highly recommend a trip to Blackgang Chine for families with younger children ( best attraction on the island) Best pub on the island is by far the Taverners at Godshill- best food we have had in ages- all fresh and local- with an excellent garden area for children. Godshill is also a really pretty little village with great shops.

Would use this site again and would highly recommend.

It was lovely, well maintained and the staff friendly and extremely helpful.

The toilet/shower block is quite old but very clean and functional.

The playground was large and included a small football field.

The pool is heated and was popular with my children.

There is a Tesco Extra and a Morrisons nearby and the site shop had a good selection of products.

The Island has many beautiful attractions, too many to see in just one week.

Ventnor and Shanklin are well worth a visit. The beach at Sandown was suitable for children and had a small section allowing dogs.

This is the sort of site I like. It is quiet and relaxing, there is plenty of space for everyone and lots of greenery.

We can't wait to return next year if I can figure out the ferry charges.

Well worth a visit if, like us, you prefer sites with no clubhouses.

Arrived at site early, before 12, but staff very friendly put us on hold & parked up. Got us to pitch luckily within 45mins. Happily helped us site my Coleman popup camper then left us to get on with the rest. Good size pitch as my camper was 22foot long plus awning with 2 tall annexes.

Slightly sloping but OK. Shop OK had most things but a Morrisons just down the road. Had to be early for the showers, shower heads a bit low for over 6 footers like me. Swimming pool was OK. Dish washing area good but don't get caught in the rush hour ;-) Must say staff worked hard keeping things clean all round the site. Playfield good for kids playing football etc. Wardens quick to stop anything developing out of control as far as kids if left too much to their own devices.

We had good weather the time we spent there 10 days in all. Access near site was tight but adds to its charm. Been coming to the Island since my children were small but always varied our accommodation (static caravan, chalet, camping)

Eating out can be expensive for a large family but I feel Sandown was the best place for a range of budgets & tastes, the supermarkets usually offer reasonable food at a reasonable price during the day, but don't offer this evening time.

Still find some things expensive, so had to vary what to visit but have seen almost everything on the island over the years. Will still keep coming back. I think the ferries are expensive if you have only one week. If you get the good weather the island is a great place to explore especially beaches like Bembridge. Overall would return to Adgestone & the Island.

Just returned after 9 nights here with my partner and 5 children ages 8-15. On the plus side, the pool, takeaway and shop are good, with shops a short drive and in good proximity to Sandown, Shanklin and Lake, and not far from a lot of attractions.
The park is generally well looked after and is quiet at night, except around the large play area. The fishing lake seems popular and there is a nice walk along a small river. There is also close access to a cycle way to take you to Sandown or Newport.
On the downside for a site this size (270 pitches) there are not enough toilet and shower facilities. 6 showers and 8 toilet cubicles for each sex and three family rooms split between 2 blocks proved inadequate on most days.

Overall we did enjoy the stay here but may not return here at busier times

Very pleased with this site, in order to get the best deal on ferry crossings it meant we arrived on the Island about 9am, which we thought would lead to us kicking our heels for a few hours before we could get pitched but a quick phone call to the site saw us set up and ready to get on with our holiday by 10am

We liked the site layout and although some of the amenities could do with updating the friendliness and helpfulness of the wardens more than made up for any other shortcomings

Have booked again for Aug 2010

We spent a lovely holiday at this pretty and well maintained site.

I was impressed with the amount of hanging baskets and flower pots around which made the site look really pretty and welcoming.

The toilet blocks had been freshly painted in bright colours and were spotless all the time we were there. The family shower rooms are a great idea if you want lots of room.

We were blessed with gorgeous weather whilst there and made good use of the swimming pool which is in a lovely sheltered area. It is an outside pool but is heated and is surrounded by lovely garden areas with sun loungers.

The only down side we found was the location - its a bit of walk into Sandown and to the nearest bus stop, but as we had a car it was not too much of a problem. Also, the approach road is quite narrow and has speed bumps.

Overall a lovely holiday on a lovely site - I would happily return and recommend it.

Just had a 10 day break here with the family (2 adults 3 kids and a dog). Owners friendly on arrival and shown to a nice good sized pitch. Site has some lovely pitches but its a bit big for my liking with some queues in the morning for the showers and toilets. These were well passed their best and I was a bit surprised by the old fashioned black plastic cisterns and toilet seats. The toilet blocks as said before are well past their best and the shower cubicles small for someone my height (6'2') and not enough room for your towel and clean clothes.
The roads did get muddy when the heavy rain fell so a lot of mud got bought into the awning. Chemical disposal point was a bit crude and not lit at night making aiming tricky.

The childrens play area gets overrun with flirting teenagers just sitting on the swings and climbing frames which is fine unless your children are younger. Ours couldn't get near the play equipment.

The pool and surrounding area is nice but as the water is only kept at 24 C dont expect any young kids to stay in there for more than 5 minutes before they come out blue!

We enjoyed our stay but compared with Sites we have used already this year we found it expensive and outdated so would not bother returning.
