Had really high hopes of this site. weather fantastic and loved the pool. However, if you are in tent without electric you are a long way from toilets and the nearer of the 2 areas is right next to a cockerel that crowed really early in the morning. Consequently we were tiered and grumpy the whole holiday as we awoke predawn every day. Pitching on an ants nest didn't help. I asked is I could pitch a small gazebo and was told they couldn't guarantee it - depended on how full the site was - so we left at home without it only to find site 80% empty. We are trying a different site on the IOW this year

We were 2 families travelling with a caravan and an Outwell Montana 12 (what a beast it is too!). We asked for adjacent sites near the playing area which was duly accommodated. Pitches vary in size, but even the smallest could accommodate our Monty 12. Although we visited in peak-season, and the site was near-full, there was never any litter and the numerous staff were on hand throughout the day (all wearing the same red t-shirts). Washrooms are a little dated but scrupulously clean. Could do with a few more showers as queues do develop at times, but the name of the game is to get up early and beat the rush! There is a good timber playing area and adjacent is a large ball-field with basket ball hoops and goalposts. This tended to be a meeting area for teens early-evening, but they were never any trouble (just the normal laughter and singing!) and it was all perfectly quiet by 10.30pm. Pool was up and running again when we visited, although closed for cleaning one day (so we went to the beach!). Lots of free sun loungers and picnic tables with parasols by the pool or you can take your own chairs. Pool was a constant 25c and blissful as it was in the high 20's early 30's for both weeks we were there. Lots of flowers and palm trees. Felt like we were in the Mediterranean! In summary, this is one of the best sites I have visited to date - and I am very surprised at the lack of reviews and indeed the lack of it's listings in the islands camping/caravaning mags. Kids loved it so much we are planning on returning next summer.

In Mid/Low Season this site cannot be beaten in my humble opinion. It is simply superb and just how a site should be - a model for all sites to aspire to! Excellent area to be sited - only a few miles from the beach at Yaverland. Fishing on site. Swimming Pool - broken boiler when we visited - but it didn't matter as we were in a heatwave and the cold pool was heaven! Noise from aircraft could be an issue as they are very low - these are light aircraft running holidaymaker flights during the day only. I really do love this site and would recommend it to anyone!

July 2005 Just come back from 2 weeks on this site. The weather was glorious. The site was very quiet when we arrived and we were directed to a nice pitch and given precise and clear instrutions on how much area we had. The chap then explained that it was most important we were spot on, and in accordance with the 6m rule because as it got busier in the following week it would be very important we were sited correctly.
The site is HUGE! That said though it is particularly well screened off by conifers and fencing so when sat under your canopy it feels much smaller and cosier than it actually is. The far fields are lot less cosy than the ones near the entrance. The lower numbered pitches would appear to be the better ones in our opinion.
Site staff were friendly though we had little occasion to speak to them as there was not particularly anything to complain about.. which was good.
Two nice play areas for the children and the pool was very nice too. A dog walk area is provided but we never used it. A short walk through a gate at the site and you are into some fields with public footpaths that take you away from the site nicely.
We didn't use the onsite take away but it was open most evenings for an hour or so.
The onsite shop is reasonably stocked to pick up emergency needs.. but is very overpriced. The 24hr Tesco on the main road to Ryde is a far better and cheaper option. A selection of camping gear and gas etc is also available but can be found cheaper at some of the camping shops on the Island.
The only down side to the whole site was the number of showers. Ridiculously few of them considering the site has 200+ pitches. The site was probably about 60% full when we left and queues for showers were becoming common. (mens showers were 2 in one block and 4 in the other) The laundry was also very small and ended up with large gatherings of Mum's looking fed up having to stand around waiting for a machine to finish so they could get their washing in. One of the dryers was also broken and remained that way for the full two weeks we were there :o( Perhaps well planned service washes at a local launderette would be a better option if the site is very busy.
All in all though a good site that with a little more thought and attention to detail could be a brilliant site. Certainly not bad enough to put us off going again though.

April 2005 Of the four sites we've stayed at on the IoW, this is much the most pleasant. Everything said below remains true, but nobody's mentioned (nor does the Camping and Caravan Club's own guide mention!) one site's best features. It's right by the excellent walking and cycle track that extends, well surfaced and level, all the way between Sandown and Newport.

June 2004 We have just returned from a stay at this site. We are "tenters" with 2 young children (2yrs and 3.5yrs) and we all had an amazing time at this site. The facilities are superb. The shower, toilet blocks are spotlessly clean and there are special "family" shower rooms. There are 2 fantastic play areas for the kids as well as a large area for ball games etc. The swimming pool is gloriously warm and the wardens and staff are incredibly helpful. We would recommend this site to anyone!!!

April 2004 Just visited this site largely due to reviews on this site.
The site is well laid out, all grass pitches, lush green grass and great soil for easy pitching of our Diablo 600. At Easter it was fairly quiet but I would imagine it would get busy during the Summer. There are children's play areas all tastefully constructed from wood, no gaudy colours here, and a sweet little swimming pool that would be fun during the Summer although too cold for us at Easter! The site staff Ian and Karen Silk were great, friendly and helpful and obviously happy with their work, all too rare these days.
There are 2 shower blocks, only one open for us at Easter, the furthest one! But it was clean, the water was hot and no extra charge. The facilities didn’t appear to be heated so it was quite cold and uncomfortable to strip off and that horrible wet floor syndrome where you just cant get your feet dry! I have seen other sites use slats to great effect to create a dry area to stand after showering. One tip here is to walk down past the washing up facilities and laundry room and use the family showers, two large rooms with showers, toilets and sinks, much more user friendly.
A big plus for us was the Dog Walk area, a large garden type area where the dogs can run off lead and do their biz. The area is kept clean by dog owners, very much to their credit, and is floodlit at night. Be warned though the floodlights do create rather spooky shadows at night time ! In fact the Isle of White is probably the most dog friendly place I have been. Dogs are allowed on beaches, in pubs and cafes, there are dog bins everywhere (please do use them!). Some great dog walks are the Downs at Areton and Parkhurst Forest, of course the dog’s own favourite has to be Sandown beach, something about sand that makes them loopey! The only place that had no dog facilities was the Zoo! we waited for a cool day to leave the dogs in the car to see the White Tiger.
The Isle of White itself has tons to do and see, yes it is touristy in places but you can get anywhere on the island in half an hour so seek out the quieter areas in the beautiful lush green countryside. Favourite place has to be Ventnor, some lovely views along the coast day and night, try the great pub The Spyglass Inn at the end of the Esplanade. Really good food, reasonably priced, a pianist and plenty of noise, makes it one of the liveliest fun places to eat on the Island. The botanical gardens at Ventnor are lovely too.
Another great meal was at the Crab & Lobster Inn at Bembridge, tricky to find but well worth it for fish lovers. The New Inn at Shafleet also has a great reputation and is justly very busy, so be prepared to wait !
Will definitely go back to this CCC site, but perhaps during the quieter shoulder months as I imagine Summer will be very very busy indeed ! Highly recommended!

August 2003 Stopped here for 2 weeks. Excellent site, very clean and tidy, nice swimming pool (outdoor but heated). Had a large pitch and the 6m gap between tents and vans is strictly adhered to. Two play areas for kids, one 3-7yrs, other 7 and over. Our pitch was close to the latter and most kids went quiet or got dragged in at 10:00pm-ish. Shop onsite was good, although not as good as 4 years ago, there was more camping equipment then (still plenty now tho')and there's no off-licence now. The onsite takeaway was convenient but not fantastic, so only used it once. Some of the fields are sited a fair distance from the 2 shower/toilet blocks so some people had to walk a bit. The 3 family shower rooms were excellent (i've got 3 kids) for dunking the whole family after a day at the beach. Generally a very well organised site but quiet (no organised entertainment) and we liked it that way!

August Bank Holiday Weekend 2003 Spent four nights in August with three kids and had a very enjoyable time. Great outdoor swimming pool, kids play area and handy general shop. Met some friendly campers and enjoyed quiet evenings star spotting (the ones in the sky!). Kids had fun in the two play areas but missed the TV!!
