We booked a week at Treloan based on the positive reviews on this site as they seemed to describe our sort of campsite and we weren't disappointed.
However, I can see that the set up wouldn't be for everyone, but what campsite would?!
We loved the views and close proximity to the coastal path. The beaches described as being within walking distance aren't much to write home about and are often inaccessible at high tide but there are lovely beaches close by; Towan beach is very quiet even in August.
We did think there could be more showers but didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes and usually less than that. The toilets and showers were always clean and tidy.
The children loved listening for the morning bell to signal feeding time for the various animals. The various arts and crafts workshops are a lovely idea too. There is a relaxed atmosphere here and I can see why families choose to return year after year. However if we were looking for a more peaceful break without the grandchildren we would probably look elsewhere. Saying that, it was lovely to see the children enjoying playing freely around the site. Although many were up and about quite late, the whole site quietened down by 10pm and everyone respected each other's space.
The site owners were helpful and friendly; they lent us an electric cable extension as ours wouldn't quite reach.
There is a great general store and butchers in nearby Portscatho, there are no big supermarkets in the vicinity.
A lovely spot away from the more commercialised areas of Cornwall. We will return!

The site is in a great location. We received a very warm welcome and it seems the owners are trying to upgrade the site.
However for us the toilet blocks and washing up areas were basic and not well looked after. Two very small showers for the whole site and they didn't seem to be cleaned throughout the day. Food left in plug holes in the washing up area ( which was actually outside under a plastic cover).
The site clearly attracts families and we were unlucky as surrounded by young families with children who were noisy and left to cry! That is probably outside the control of the site but it did spoil the camping for us.
All in all not a great site experience but a great location and a lovely walk into Portscatho and its two little pubs.

We were disappointed by this campsite. It’s not in a bad spot, being only a very short walk to the coast path and some secluded bays (though most seemed to disappear at low tide), and only about a 10 min walk into nearby Portscatho for a shop and a pub.
However, we felt that a lot more could be made of it – some simple things such as having a few signposts for the way down to the coast path (you have to go through a couple of fields and although it’s not far a signpost or two would make all the difference), and having a map of the campsite /list of facilities / list of nearby attractions up in the reception window.
Instead you have to pay £5 for a booklet about the campsite and nearby area (admittedly the proceeds go towards the non-profit-making art business that they are running, but we felt that it wouldn’t hurt to have a map of the campsite up in the reception window).
We would also have found it useful for there to be a designated dog walking area – instead we used one of the fields between the campsite and coast path but there was no designated poo bin which would have been helpful.
The shower block wasn’t all that clean and the external door (at least to the ladies’) didn’t shut, making it cooler than it needed to be (we were there during a particularly cold spell). One of the toilets was tricky to flush and another smelt very unpleasant as though it was leaking.
It wasn’t particularly busy when we were there, although it got busier the last weekend, and our definite impression was that the facilities would be under pressure when the campsite was full – I’d expect queues for the showers and toilets and toilets running out of loo roll etc.
There were no rules (other than to keep dogs on a lead) which is unusual, although it didn’t seem to be a problem (it was pretty quiet and peaceful during all of our stay) – but whether that would also be the case in peak season, I’m not sure.
We felt it was quite expensive for what it is.

We have thought long and hard about leaving a review of this site as our view is, you find a gem and you keep it to yourself. However, on this occasion we feel that we owe it to the site owners to shout about it.
We know that everyone's requirements are slightly different when choosing campsites but our's are;
Location, views, relaxed atmosphere, clean facilities, uncommercialised.
In every aspect Treloan scores 10 out of 10 !
The campsite is within easy walking distance of portscatho, a small Cornish village, with pub, shop, restaurant and beach yet is situated overlooking the sea with direct private access to several small coves and beaches via the coastal footpath. We just wish we had a dog as they just love it !
Toilet/shower facilities were spotless when we were there.
The owner's were very helpful, relaxed and easy going. They offered us extra ice packs if we had needed them.
There is just something about this site that is special that cannot be put into words, we met a couple who had been coming to the campsite since they were children who had in turn brought their own children. We think that says it all.

Down to earth campsite! Views are great but if you like a bit of luxury then this site is not for you.
Toilet block had 2 showers which had no heating and no facility to dry your hands and could be cleaner, but as I said it's very down to earth and for £15 a night over priced (£18.80 including extras).
Only 2 hardstandings, electric hook up is a extra £2.30 a night and dogs are a £1 but there are no dog walking fields or pooh bins !
Walks from the site are excellent. There seemed to be a lot of old caravans on site that people were living in.
As I mentioned great views of the sea but wouldn't go back !

My review back in 2005 ended 'a gem of a site like this surely deserves more money to be spent on it'. Now back again for the first time, we found the site transformed, and still improving - they're planning a laundry room next, apparently. There are now some levelled pitches with hard-standing, otherwise there's a wide expanse of well-kept grass sloping gently towards the wide sea views. A short path from the site leads you straight onto the Coast Path, with superb walking and beaches in both directions.
The facilities are not Caravan-Club standard, but spotlessly clean while we were there, and quite arty in their way. Unusually, the showers are individual small wet-rooms, with ample space. There's recycling, and chemical-toilet disposal, but no grey-water dropping point for motorhomes.
Curiously, the postcode (and hence the map link on this website) leads to a position well south of the actual site. In fact it's just a short walk into Gerrans and Portscatho for pubs, restaurant, post office and a small supermarket.

Words failed me when we arrived at this site. Due to it being as pricey as any 5* site we had previously stayed at, we were expecting pretty reasonable facilities, but we were appalled. After we had set up the caravan we left for an hour or two for something to eat. By the time we got back someone had pitched their campervan and tent so close to us that we did not have any room to put up our awning.
Then, the toilets. I would not have expected anything so poor on a building site. I cannot comment on the showers - after experiencing the toilets, we used the shower in our caravan.
Although we were expected to keep our dogs on leads (we have 2), the owners dog was left to roam free, which was not very pleasant for our two - watching a free dog running around.
However, the one positive note was the location - it was wonderful to take the dogs straight out for their daily constitutional. Unfortunately though this did not make up for the state of the facilities.
All in all, we had a fairly uncomfortable stay and will not be returning. Such as shame for such a prime location.

Pleased to report that we had a lovely week at this campsite and will definitely be going back! Great location on the Roseland, beautiful sea views and direct access from the site on to the coastal path which leads into Portscatho and miles of lovely beaches nearby.
I understand that the site was taken over by the current owner Debs about two years ago and a lot of the facilities have been improved since. The site is level/slightly sloping and features two toilet/shower blocks, covered washing up sinks and a freezer for your ice packs. Free, ample hot water and they actively encourage you to recycle your waste cardboard, paper, cans, etc. We used the toilet block near the office and found the facilities clean and the family washrooms handy.
There are quite a lot of seasonal pitches on the site, and most campers we spoke to were return visitors. Other campers were mainly young families with children under the age of 10 or couples but we did go the first week in July, out of school holidays.
The owners were very friendly, helpful and always around on-site. Debs called for the children on a daily basis to help her feed the chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs on site. This is camping as it used to be, good clean facilities but no long list of rules and regulations, no wifi (barely even a mobile signal) or games room etc to amuse older children.
Its a 10 min walk down the coastal path into Portscatho, which is your typical picture postcard Cornish fishing village and has a pub “Plume of Feathers” which serves food, the Harbour Club, butchers, cafe/restaurant (which was never open), post office and village shop, the latter stocks all the basics and more, together with a cashpoint and is open 7am-7pm;
we had a very enjoyable afternoon in the Harbour Club (50p membership per day/£5 p.A) watching the England -v- Germany match. The site is also within stumbling distance of the Royal Standard pub in Gerrans situated at the top of the hill, which has a nice sunny beer garden and I would highly recommend this pub for the food and friendly welcome.
The site is in an ideal location if all you want to do is explore the Roseland and the unspoilt beaches. However it is a bit too far off the beaten track if you plan to explore wider Cornwall.
The pace of life is more relaxed here than the popular resorts of the north coast, the roads a lot narrower and it takes a good 20mins to get back to the A390 to access the rest of Cornwall.

Lovely site and beautiful location. Access to coastal walk to beaches and Portscathough which has great deli. Facilities basic but adequate and clean.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere on site, no rules but no need for rules as everyone just seems to get along nicely.
This is encouraged by the owner who rings a bell to take the kids on site to feed the animals in the morning and occasional evenings round the campfire.
Came back after 2 weeks here feeling completely relaxed and will definitely be back.

This was our 1st visit to the site and on arrival was met by the owners who were very welcoming and seemed to love what they do and their campsite. The views from the site and most pitches are breath taking across the sea.
We had lots of space around us and the tents / caravans were given a big space. The kids loved running around on the fields and especially going to feed the chickens / rabbits / guinea pigs and collecting the eggs with the owner every morning.
The facilities were clean and we didn't have to wait to use family shower rooms which were fantastic with our 2 small children. The local area had some lovely small beaches and coastal walks. We loved this place and will be back next year.
