Enjoyed a nice and relaxed seven nights in a nice part of the country.

The host were very approachable and very helpful, could probably do with wi-fi installing. Would go again

Brilliant little site not too big even though it was full it didn’t feel busy.

Great location to explore the local area, we used our own facilities due to the Covid restrictions but facilities on site did look nice.

We will definitely visit again.

Very friendly and accommodating, spacious pitch, a bit uneven, but you had the choice of where to pitch and how to pitch, not regimented.

They were out regularly to sanitise the taps.

Date of Visit: August 2018 Unit:  Touring Caravan
Reviewer: TheForgies 1 review from this member

Having read a lot of the mixed reviews, I threw caution to the wind and booked a week’s stay (Mon 13th - Mon 20th August 18). I will try to give an honest review and representation as my family and I saw the park when we visited and is totally unbiased with all opinions and points being my own.

I emailed the site to enquiries about availability at around 7pm fully expecting a reply sometime the following day. What I didn’t expect was an almost instant reply, given the time of day when all other sites would operate a “during site office working hours”

The response was very polite and said that the dates were very likely available but to call the office just to confirm. I did so immediately and to be honest, I fully expected to get an answering machine but my call was answered, the rates were explained, the dates were confirmed and deposit was paid all inside a mere 15 minutes after 7pm on a Friday night. I was well impressed and I got the feeling that the site owners/staff were very acommodating and pleased to help.

The deposit was the amount of one nights stay and being in high season, was just £23 for a pitch which would include an awning, electric hook up, a tourer or motorhome and upto 8 people.

Great value for money.

The directions to the site were simple and accurate. The route gets a little hilly and narrow once you turn off the A1 but it’s to be expected given the location and it caused no trouble and we quickly found the site.

The site is surprisingly spacious given its size and despite what I read in some of the reviews, it was extremely easy to find a level pitch. Yes there were a few undulations here and there but nothing concerning. We were spot on level without the need for our ramps or blocks, just simply adjusted steadies. To be fair, I’ve stayed in all manor of sites from basic fields to full on holiday parks and I’ve always had to use the ramps and/or blocks to level the van. So to reiterate; it’s very easy to find level pitches.

The pitches were all grass, which was neatly cut with no bald or muddy areas. I was shocked at the size of the pitches. They were some of the biggest I’ve ever had. Tourer, full awning with parking to the side (comfortably housed our large estate car) and STILL plenty space for sitting out, BBQ, playing games with kids etc.

We had a very very wet week but the drainage of the field was amazing and no standing water was seen despite 4-5 days of heavy rain.

Once pitched, the owner came across to us and introduced himself and welcomed us into his site, gave us a few details etc and left us to it. Really kind man who came across as someone who would find no trouble whatsoever in helping his guests. He didn’t hover or look over our shoulders as we set up at all. He explained that over the next couple of days, his daughter would drop by to check that you’re happy and be of help if needed and to collect the balance of your rates.

Now onto the facilities.

The electric hook up, while I don’t actually know the ampage, was very generous and more than easily run our 12v and 240 lighting, our tv, fridge, kettle and awning lighting while charging our devices, camera batteries and phones etc.

The site is situated next to a working farm so the facilities were in adapted out buildings etc. There is a small block with separate male and female, toilets, basins and showers. A small laundry area with coin operated washer and driers. Also a small washing up area. We washed most of our dishes in our van so only visited this on two occasions.

The female block has very clean loo’s and wash basins and separate shower cubicles, of which offered extremely hot showers (and cold ones if preferred!) with amazing water pressure. The cubicles were a little smaller than other sites but given the size of the site, these were very much adequate.

They were very hygienic while rustic, with a tiny little patch of damp spots around the top of one wall, but let’s not forget, this is a farm, with adapted outbuildings, there is always going to be little things like this but they don’t pose a problem unless you choose to make it one. You’re not in your bathroom at home or at a guest house, you are literally showering and performing your. Ablutions. In a field! Whichever way you tart it up it’s only ever gonna be just that!

At the later part of the evening when the majority of guests have already used the showers etc, there is an issue of water on the floor outside the shower cubicle which over the course of the evening has attracted a dirty puddle, but with 30+ pairs of feet treading in and out in a short space of time, what can we expect? This happens on most sites even those with the “super grand” facilities!

This said though, this could be kept on top of by the staff allocating a mop or two for guests to use. However, you can take a mop to the guest but you’re never gonna get all guests to mop! Maybe if guests helped out a little by wiping their feet before coming in, wearing shower shoes or just cleaning up after themselves.

There is a simple stand pipe for drinking water, a very basic (man hole and lid!) yet more than adequate chemical disposal point, how fancy does it need to be people?

After all you’re just filling it full of shhhoe shine! Enough said! There is a separate tap near the disposal for rinsing cassettes etc.

The site WiFi while it was available, I tried once to access it without avail so can’t comment too much. Who needs it anyway? Were meant to be chilling out with a bottle of wine etc not logging on and reminding us of the mundane that’s awaiting our return home! Just go for a walk, read a book, have a conversation!

The site has zero light pollution and no noise whatsoever leading to a quiet and peaceful night’s sleep. The resident wood pigeon is always around to coo a good morning though!

The park has ample area for kids to play, run around etc and is very safe. The park has an amazing family feel to it which makes it a winner in my book despite our son being an adult now, it’s still nice to hear families giggling and playing and seeing kids fly around having fun.

So in summoning up;

If you expect ultra modern facilities, speedy WiFi and no country sounds and smells, go to a Haven resort or a holiday park. Do your research, we actually live in Northumberland therefore we have the natural ability to expect and put up with rain on a very regular basis, so if it’s great weather and zero puddles, visit sites further south.

Let’s face it guy’s, the rates are awesome value for money and befit a small more basic site, let’s be honest, you don’t get the Royal Clarence Hotel if you pay for a Premier Inn.

Our local history here in Northumberland is second to none and the site is very close to Holy Island (Lindisfarne) for you Viking’s fans, Alnwick castle and Gardens for the fans of Harry Potter, Flodden battlefield, Berwick upon tweed, Bamburgh and a load more castles and stately homes than you could wave a medieval stick at.

There are beautiful restaurants (fish and chips at Neptune’s in Seahouses can not be missed!) Local flora and fauna with wildlife boat trips around the Farne Islands and Coquet Island a little further south, for spotting seals, porpoises, puffins and scores of sea birds (book boat trips at Billy Shiels boat trips office in Seahouses. Treat yourself to a sunset boat trip. You won’t regret it, I promise!)

There are quiet country pubs for a quiet drink or if you want big screen sports with pints, or a visit to a micro brewery, there is that too.

Great location for crossing the border and visiting the borders towns with markets, antiques and haggis!

We plan on returning for a couple of long weekends next month, we liked it that much.

Don’t trust everything you read. If you’re after a pleasant base for walking, visiting local attractions or just a few days in the countryside, while staying on an informal, relaxed and honest little site, give this place a try.

All in all a lovely, simple, laid back and friendly week away with value for money rates. Definitely up there on our “visit again” list. Thank you to all at Elford Caravan Park

Overall 9/10

We stayed just one night (cost £20 including EHU) following a trip to Farne Islands, the site is good and clean facilities. The owners very friendly but the field is a 'rolling' one. Difficult to get anywhere near level. Access to facilities would be difficult if you are disabled.

The site was quiet and the best bit was twice seeing a stoat.

Once again just have to say another fabulous Holiday at Elford Caravan Park! (This was our 6th visit).

The park has been Family owned for many years and they are helpful not only with advice regarding best days-out locations, but always available on site for any concerns we may have had throughout our stay.

The amenities are regularly cleaned and hot water is always available from the on site showers!

Perfect location within 2 miles of both Seahouses and Bamburgh Castle!

Looking forward to returning again next Summer!

Kind regards,

Jason.

Excellent site. Excellent facilities. Very helpful owners. Lots of interesting places to visit in the area. Just wish we didn't live so far away, here in Leicester.

This is not an all singing dancing site. Peaceful, calm, at least when we were there.

Fab fish and chips at Lewis chip shop, Seahouses, also lovely senior meals at Bean/Beal Barn Beal. (ask the owner)

A lovely site on a working farm.

Very pleasant owners and family running the Caravan Site.

Very clean toilets and shower facilities.

My basic type of site, if you want hard standings / lighting around the park go somewhere else.

These places are rare and hard to find nowadays.

My wife and dog and myself had a great relaxing time on site and will definitely be back.

There is plenty to do and see in the surrounding areas including good sea angling near by.

Highly recommended.

I went home relaxed.
