We have just returned from five glorious days at the Awelfryn Caravan Park in Anglesey. It was our first experience with any form of camping as we have only just bought a motor home. The site was just perfect, not too big, and from the onset Chris and her husband could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Although it was not 5* it was very homely, the toilets and showers spotless. Everywhere was neat and tidy. The area is just beautiful with some fabulous views and walks. There was a shop a short walk away as well and a pub and café. The beach was within walking distance and was a nice as any Cornish beach! We will be returning again and would highly recommend this site, and thank you Chris for making it so perfect. Pat & John xx

We've been searching for our perfect holiday family campsite for a few years now and on the recommendation of a friend we booked an electric hookup pitch at Awelfryn for 3 nights. This is our perfect campsite! The kids (ages 13, 10 and 9) had plenty of space to run about and play in the middle of the camping field and soon made friends with other kids on the site. On arrival we went to Reception and Chris (who is lovely and friendly and helpful) gave us details of our allocated pitch and told us about the weekly hog roast & entertainment at the White Lodge Caravan site - their other site mainly for touring caravans (20 min walk/5 min drive away) - what a great night! We returned for a full Welsh breakfast the following morning at the Marram Grass Cafe before heading home. What lovely, friendly staff and with both indoor and outdoor seating strewn with grape vines and great menu, this is a hidden gem. There are absolutely stunning views of Snowdonia from Awelfryn and the kids loved sitting up in the viewing area and counting the mountains! The toilets and showers (20p's needed for showers) are a convenient stroll from all tents on this perfectly sized site and are charmingly rustic and most importantly they are very CLEAN! The showers are really spacious and with modern shower units you have great temperature control! Also the showers are a great size for supervising the kids getting showered without getting soaked yourself, with door hook, shelf for toiletries, stool and bin - best equipped showers on a campsite! Newborough Beach - 5 mins drive/20 min walk (clean and well looked after) with it's £3 parking fee, is money well spent, as we spent all our time there - flying kites, body-boarding, rock pooling (when the tide is out), dog walking - turn left for dog zone on beach - and playing in the sand dunes. Newborough village (2 mins drive away) has a lovely chippy (The Codmother), corner shop (which sells everything!) and super little pub (White Lion) with beer garden. Everywhere is dog friendly and we'll definitely be back next year and the bonus is the little on site cottage that my parents can stay in! In fact, we are going back for the weekend in the on site cottage in October for my birthday (too cold to camp in Oct) as we can't wait until next year to go back to Awelfryn!

Just back from a 3 night stay at Awelfryn, a camp site and area we had never visited before.
The site is close to the forest with the expansive beach on the opposite side of it. If taking a dog, head straight for the car park (£3 entry fee)as dogs are only allowed to the left of it. The facilities there are excellent and there are signposted nature trails and exercise routes with obstacles for kids along the route. It is also spotless.
We stayed in the smaller field close to the viewing point/picnic area which has stunning views of Snowdonia and the Menai Straights. The toilets were close at hand and cleaned several times per day. Showers were hot and require a 20p coin. The grass was also kept short and with the plots level, they were ideal for camping on.
The manager, is very helpful and was a great host. She ensured everything was well run and nothing was ever too much trouble. We went purely on the recommendations from this site and were not disappointed. We all loved it and are sure to return soon.
The fish and chip shop in Newborough (The Codmother) serves great food and the large cod are enormous. It is literally a 5 minute drive from the site.

We stayed on this site in a cute one bedroom chalet (also sofa bed in lounge area) for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. Comfy beds, nice hot shower and kitchen with microwave, fridge and hob(what more do you need!) The site is clean and well maintained with fab views of the welsh mountain range(snowdon included)and is also a five minute walk from newborough forest. A great walk through the forest leads to newborough sands and continue on to
The light house for some stunning scenery and the best little coves I've ever seen.
Highly recommend the Marram Grass(bistro/bar on White lodge caravan park about 15-20mins walk)the food is excellent and the hog roast night(Wednesday) is very popular-meat is beautiful with the tastiest apple sauce I've ever had. Also recommend their seafood platter(sharing)and the melt in the mouth welsh lamb off the main menu.
Thanks to Chris and Kev(site managers)for making us feel so welcome and hope to return very soon.

We stayed at this site at the end of May, unfortunately we didn't have the weather on our visit but the field stayed in good condition. None of the pitches seemed to suffer with the water it had put down. Pitches are to be set up specifically to help with privacy to other campers. Facilities was basic but always very clean, and surprisingly there was only 2 showers we never had the que! 20p for hot water for washing up and for shower timers, so make sure you take plenty. In the area there is a small town a short walk away (5-10 mins) there is a chippy, cafe, post office, shop and dog friendly pub. Newborough forest is also a short walk from the site, which you get to the beach through about an 40mins walk. Site owner/manager Chris was very polite and helpful, even let me use her jump leads after my car battery died.
Overall though a very nice site and trip, despite the rubbish weather. Would definitely go again.

We chose this site because it was the closest one we could find that would let us easily explore Newborough Forest and Llandwyn beach with the dog. The village of Newborough is also very close and has the usual pub, corner shop, chip shop etc. All very handy. Now the site itself is very basic. It is basically just a field and toilet/shower block with CDP and drinking water. The toilet cubicles are extremely small, I struggled to turn around inside, but they are clean. No hot running water in the toilets too. Hot water is available for washing dishes around the side of the toilet block.
Showers require 20p to operate, you get a few minutes with each 20p. I thought that was a bit off considering the price of such a basic pitch. They are in larger rooms which is helpful if you are taking kids up with you too.
The rules for the site state that dogs must be kept restrained at all times which we did. However there where a few dogs that were allowed to run around and one terrier that seemed to be roaming around on its own.
When we arrived at the site for the weekend the bins and recycling where full to bursting. They were not emptied while we were there and rubbish was beginning to build up around the bins. Surely the bins should have been emptied before the weekend camping rush? We did our best to fit some in but ended up taking our rubbish with us and finding another bin. Not the best beginning for a long journey back.
The major plus point for this site is the views. They are tremendous. From the viewing platform in the top field looks out across Snowdonia. It really is stunning.

The current owners were still on site and very nice people. The site is perfect for being near to Newborough to give great exercise for our German Shepherd. Local shops for all your needs in the village. Great Variety of attractions on Anglesey and further afield. The facilities are basic, minimal showers 20p chemical disposal not good. The site has busy and quiet times we have enjoyed both. Minimal rules but the site is free from litter and everyone well behaved.

Just returned from 2 nights camping at the site, found the site in a perfect location new owners are looking after site well. The facilities although limited were clean and tidy, site is situated close to the forest and beach and walking distance to the village where there are local shops, take-away and pub, which is dog friendly
Small site with what looks like plenty of electric hook ups, and was constantly busy, sometimes feel like you are very close, but as long as everyone uses the 11pm ssshhhhh rule its ok
Look forward to returning at the next opportunity

A great little site with all the basic amenities. The site was full when I visited, with a good mixture of tents, caravans and motor homes. Although there is no site shop, there is a shop in the nearby village. It’s ideal for trips to the beach, through Newborough forest. The utility block is small and basic with only 2 showers and a small pot wash area, both with coin operated hot water. Despite its size, I didn’t experience and queues. Looks like the owners have sold up. Hope the new owners are as friendly as the current ones.
