Just spent 4 nights at the Waterloo Inn, site is in a lovely location. Toilets and showers need updating but you can live with this.
1 member of staff needs to improve her customer service skills, 3 other couples visited alongside us, all agreed that they would not be returning due to lack of friendliness of this person.
All agreed that this was a shame as site was in good location.
Lots to do in area especially if you like walking.

We were not impressed at all by site. The site was very unkept - long grass, tall weeds everywhere. There were no views at all from campsite. The Waterloo is a pub with food but same as campsite pub is very tired and could do with a bit of TLC. Toilets are the pub ones, which are situated outside the pub therefore used by all and sundry (this campsite is on a walking trail), thank goodness we can use our own facilities. Toilets and showers are open all day for everybody to use even if you do not use the pub! They are only closed out of pub hours.
A lot of uncut trees around site therefore when rains it sounds like ping pong balls on caravan. We booked for a 7 nights and only stayed 4, we left and found a much nicer site for last 3 nights. The landlady did not seem at all bothered about our concern.

We stayed Saturday and Sunday night bank holiday weekend. This is a superb little camp / caravan site and only charged 12. 50 per night for a 4 man tent. You get what you pay for the toilets were clean and the showers were too. There is a pot washing facility which was also clean.
The pub is lovely and although we didn't have any food, what we saw were generous portions and smelt lovely. The beer isn't over priced and the pool table was free.
The owner and staff were friendly and very helpful. Yes the cockerels do crow from very early in the morning - but you expect this if you are out in the country.
Will definitely return - superb weekend. There is a garage down the road which sold hot pies, bread etc and there is a village about 2 miles down the road.
Excellent location for Stanton moor and ashbourne, bakewell etc.

I was very impressed when booking in as although they were very busy at the weekend and the camping area was full they allowed us to book a caravan pitch and camp on the grass where the awning would be.
When we arrived I was so glad we had that done so as the camping area was tiny and very cramped with all the tents pitched there, if we had of taken our main tent we would never of fitted on the area.
The toilets were damp but clean (only 1 toilet in the men's and 2 in ladies). The Showers are small and old but again clean although only 1 has the shower head attached to the wall with the other hanging so you have to hold if you wish to use.
The main complaint and a real problem which no one else seems to have commented on are the 3 cockerels and 5 hens which are allowed to roam the site at all times and as the pub generator switched off around 12.45 am'ish the cockerels commenced their calls from 2 am. Yes all 3 as one stopped the next took its turn, suffice to say we were up and gone by 9am

Stayed here in January (even though it says on here that it's only open in the summer!)
The pub is lovely and the food is gorgeous and very reasonable. It's in a perfect location for walkers and the views are beautiful.
However, the campsite itself was a bit of a let-down.
There's a track around the campsite, and areas of hardstanding. Unfortunately there's nothing to connect the track to the hardstanding areas, and we had to drive over grass which was very boggy and sticky and we got stuck. Thankfully another motorhomer was throwing away some carpet which we could use to get un-stuck.
Also the shower block absolutely stank, there was mould everywhere and it didn't look as if it had been cleaned for a while.
If you can go in the summer when the ground is firm, and shower in your van, then by all means go, but I think charging £15 for what is really no more than a CL, I think is perhaps a bit unreasonable.
Great shame, because the pub itself is super.

Had a weekend here mid August. Didn't really check out the toilets or shower as used the van. We ate in the pub one night and I have to say that the food was good. Very generous portions and fantastic home cooked chips.
Lovely walking country. We did a 6 mole stroll along Biggin Dale, Beresford Dale and Hartington.
I was pleased to see that the cheese shop had reopened, try the lime and chilli cheddar, but beware, it has a kick.
The site was gently sloping and tents were pitched amongst the vans.
We will use the site again.

Seasonal touring caravans pitched along the outer edges of the site. Spaces for touring caravans/tents along outer edges and in the centre of the field which is gently sloping to flat with electric hookups. One male and two female toilets situated in the pub outer buildings (open 24 hrs). Two male/female showers basic but adequate. An 'out of the way area', ideal for a relaxing break but plenty to do and see if willing to travel a bit. Lovely area of the British Countryside.
Mine hosts make you feel very welcome and offer excellent food at affordable prices and will accommodate with food not on the menu where possible. Definitely worth another visit.

Wow what a brilliant little site. The site is situated behind the pub and is lovely, clean and well cared for. The showers are pretty basic but again clean with lovely hot water at no extra cost. The toilets are actually in the pub but this does not cause any problems as you are given a code to use when the pub is shut. The owners are really friendly and nothing seems to be any trouble to them always happy to help. The Rooster and chickens are a great attraction especially for the kids, as they wonder around the site. The pub food is excellent along with the range of many different Ales on offer too.
We will definitely be returning to this site and would recommend to anyone.
Well done Waterloo Inn !

Booked this place for a weekend after seeing it when had a drink while cycling on the trail, a while ago. Site is small, made up of a few tent pitches and a few more caravan hardstands with hook ups, plus a few statics.
We were with another couple and were put on two caravan pitches with hook up as there were no tent pitches left. Was charged the caravan rate (£15 per night, although we never used the electricity).
Toilets and showers are basic but clean and there is a pot washing area as well(although there was no hot tap working, but we got hot water from the ladies no prob)
Location is great. 5 mins from tissington trail and lovely walks. Food in pub is fab. Better than your average pub food. Also loved the hens!
Definitely would recommend this site.
PS the YHA at Hartington has a great restaurant/bistro for when the pub is full.

This site is situated behind the Waterloo Public House on the main road in the quiet Derbyshire village. The site is mainly made up of static caravans with room for about six tourers as well as a good area for tents.
It is a clean and well care for site with only two showers for the men and two for the ladies and each pair are housed together with very little privacy. This was fine when we visited in April, but I can imagine it’s a problem in the busy season.
From this site there are many walks and trails, but the big attraction for me was the pub. This was a family run business including help from the grandchildren and very tame chickens which made the stay all the more special.
This real ale pub offers some splendid ales including Black Sheep. The food is excellent and well-presented and I am told it is all local produce, and that the steak I had was from a local butcher, and I can honestly say that it was one of the nicest pub meals I have had for ages and reasonably priced. The whole experience made it a “must return”.
