Although we only stayed for one night it was one of the best nights camping we've ever had. Beautiful site and tents in a walled garden. Plenty of space between tents and lovely helpful staff for whatever questions or queries you had. We took our little dog and it was super to have so many walks and areas to take her too. The kids were kept happy with the playground equipment and plenty space for them to play tennis. Toilet and shower facilities were clean, tidy and hot water a plenty. We will definitely be back and very soon. Hopefully for a little longer next time. All in all well done Haughton House. It was a pleasure to camp with you.

Just back from a 2 night stay at Haughton and had a fabby time. I've been going to this site with friends, regularly, for about 10 years but the cleanliness of the toilets last year were really bad so only went once, but this weekend - back on form and things were brilliant! The toilets and shower facilities were soooo clean, they really have had a total deep clean and are also cleaned daily. There is now a free hairdryer. Clean cloths available at each sink so guests can also clean up after themselves to help.
The park itself is also so tidy and clean, I can see some changes. The park is in a great location, 15 min walk into Alford with all the village facilities, forest walks, the river, great kids play area all on site. It wasn't busy, we were the only campers, a few tourers and the statics, which is a shame as I remember the days of rounders and games in the walled garden and the making of new friends. Hopefully now that under new management it will get busier again.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this site and cant wait till we return. The owners are excellent, so friendly and made us feel so welcome. Thank you both, gold stars all round!

We have stayed here several times both in the tent and caravan. The kids love it as there is lots for them to do-as long as the weather is good!
Not much for the kids if its wet, although the village has a swimming pool. No shop on site and its about a 20 minute walk from the village which has a range of shops.
The pitches are spacious. Toilets are basic but have everything you need and are cleaned daily.
Showers are free but with those push buttons which are a bit annoying, however there is always lots of hot water.
The site itself is large and has lots of woodland walks.

Just back from a weekend at this site and I could not recommend it enough! I think others have covered it pretty well. New owners are doing a great job. The facilities look a bit dated but are clean and fully functioning - what more do you need?
The highlight for me was location. Right in the middle of a country park, we had a great time exploring all the trails through the woods on foot and on bikes. The couple were so helpful, even lending me a bike lock as we forgot ours. My 9 year old loved that he could safely cycle round and round the site! We will be back to explore the surrounding area a bit more next year.
Our only minor issue was campers in neighbouring tents who don't seem to be aware of campsite etiquette. Loud chat and car doors banging til midnight and then another family with very noisy children at 6:30am. TBH we encounter this sort of thing pretty much every time we camp and whilst it's irritating and a little frustrating there is little the site owners can do.
Brilliant site!

We have recently decided to purchase a touring caravan our children are 11, 4 an 2 years old.
Our first trip was out to Huntly Castle Caravan Park (which is beautiful and well worth a visit) we were impressed to hear that they have recently taken over Haughton House Caravan Park and decided to head there in July.
The entrance to the park is beautiful with well maintained grassy areas and flower beds. The House itself is still an impressive looking building although it is requiring a lot of work to give it a new lease of life.
The caravan park itself it clean and tidy and was showing signs that there is work underway to make improvements. The putting green is well kept and at £2 for adults and £1 for kids its a great way to entertain the kids for a while. A toilet block is closed and currently being upgraded.
I had read very negative reviews about the state of the open block but I did not see any of this and always found them clean and tidy. I think there may be parents letting their children use the toilets on their own and the children are not flushing after they are finished.
The showers a a bit hot for the wee ones but there is a sink they can get a wash in. My only niggle is that it is cold and the wee heater doesn't do much but I'm sure this will be different once the upgrades are done.
The staff were very friendly and took time to speak to us on arrival and would wave if they were out and about. They are open to any suggestions and ideas for the park that would make staying there even better. I was told there is a 10 year plan for the park, so I cant wait to see the changes happening and restoring the park to its former glory. I would also take what the static residents say with a pinch of salt, I believe some are not happy with the changes.
The washing machines and dryers are fantastic value and I was able to wash and dry our clothes for £2. 50! I stayed without a car and it was no problem getting in and out of the park and into Alford.
The Alford Valley Railway runs back and forth from the park to the village daily. If you are there longer than a week and annual pass at £30 is best value a weekly pass is £15.
The Transport Museum is fantastic and there is always something on for the kids to do during the holiday. We are heading back again this month for another week and I will see if there has been progress over the last month.
We enjoyed our stay and with the three kids there is something for all of them. And at under £100 for the week we cant complain!

Please note, that this site is now under new management, and consequently the facilities have been improved a great deal. Negative comments regarding facilities in reviews prior to 2012 are therefore out of date. Specifically, the toilet and shower blocks have all been given a deep clean and are cleaned thoroughly, at least once a day. The wardens are also much more accessible. Please also note that The site has been renamed - it's old name was Haughton Caravan Park, but it is now Haughton House Holiday Park.

I have stayed here a number of times in the past and had no complaints. The site itself is large with a mix of statics, tourers, tents and flats in the main house block.
Facilities are good and if you have a dog there is plenty of scope to keep them happy and the area itself is ideal as a base for touring around, especially the castles which are all around.
Although it was quiet when we were there, my big disappointment was that unlike on past stays, the toilets were not cleaned at all during our 4 night stay.
Maybe things will improve when it gets busy.

I've just returned from a 2 night stay from 29th April to 1st May, at this large council run park near Aberdeen. We phoned in advance on Friday to be told that there were plenty of pitches available. There were 3 of us, myself, my husband and our 6 year old son, staying in a small 3 person dome tent.
On arrival I was very impressed. The site is set in a beautiful woodland park in the grounds of a former mansion house close to the river. We were told we could camp in one of 3 tent areas so chose the walled garden next to the playground which my son loved. There were lots of children about and the site is ideal for little ones. Lots of adventures to be had climbing trees etc The staff in reception were friendly and helpful but as others have said there is no warden presence on the park itself.
Some groups of people were up till the small hours talking in very loud voices which didn't really bother me but might some. We were told by another camper that a large group had been up drinking and partying till 3 am the night before. However, they were quiet for the remainder of the weekend. There were the usual inconsiderate folk about who left litter lying everywhere, left their car engines running etc.
The ladies toilets were a disgrace. I had to go in and out of each cubicle in turn to find a half clean toilet. They were either blocked, full of poo or had paper, used tights and sweet wrappers all over the floor. There were traces of poo on the cubicle walls. My husband assures me that the mens loos were perfectly clean. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that children were using the toilets unattended despite the door having a key pad entry. I didn't use the showers but heard other people saying how they wouldn't use the showers without having their crocs on ! The fault here lies with other campers I think rather than the site itself.
Apart from the toilet issue I found the site to be pleasant and would certainly go back. The village is a 5-10 minute walk away and there are good amenities here. Swimming pool, take aways, chemist, banks, museum of transportation, narrow gauge railway. The little train will take you to and from the village from the park and costs £15 for a family for 7 days. There's enough on the park and village to keep you occupied for a couple of days but any longer than that and you would perhaps need to travel a bit further for things to do. There is no longer a shop on site as advertised but there is a putting green (£1 per person), and table tennis and pool tables indoors for rainy days. However, when we were there these rooms were full of kids despite the signs saying they should be accompanied by an adult.
All in all a very cheap weekend as we were only charged as having a 2 man tent and paid a total £19 for the 2 nights. What a bargain. The setting is quite pretty and all in all the facilities are adequate.

First time at this park and will go again. BUT! there are a few problems with this being a council run site. I believe in value for money and and I agree you get it here.
Lets start with the positives.
Grounds are fantastic and well kept. You can walk to the town where there is a fab butchers, a large Co-op shop, Museum, swimming pool and train. There is plenty to do regardless of the weather. The camp site grounds were clean and litter free. Great place to take dogs and they also have provided enclosed areas for your dog to run wild. The river is very close too and dogs can gain access to nice shallow water. The river is a safe distance away so don't worry about young children getting too close.
The walled garden is a great play area for rounders and family games and there are so many places for the kids to play including the large house where there is a games room with activities should they need time inside when the weather is not so good.
Pitches are varied in size some rather small where there is hook-ups. The better area is without hook-ups at the front of the house and in the walled garden part of the house. Pitches are flat and pegs go in easy which is amazing considering there are so many trees. Well shielded from the wind and rain at the hook-up section but is it is shaded form the sun quite a bit.
Plenty of drinking water ontap and water is always close to where you are.
The warden was really nice and helpful.
The locals are really nice and friendly.
A family site for all ages of children. Busy during the weekend but was not during the easter holidays
Good large washing area for plates with plenty of hot water, they are round the back of the toilet blocks.
This site allows you stay longer on your leaving day if there is no other booking for your pitch. You can stay till 4pm
OK, so now the 'Not so good.'
No space to put your car if you have a family sized tent. Its quite a squeeze in some pitches and just not possible in others.
They charge for your dog to stay too ! ( this I have no idea why)
2 sets of travellers were staying at this camp site. The local residents ( static caravan owners) said this is quite normal and the only way they get them off site last year was to shut down the toilet blocks and the laundry room to make them leave. One set of travellers at the exit were very noisy and the police came one night as the noise was ongoing till 2 am. The other travellers were very pleasant.
The house has quite clean toilets and showers and a laundry room. I tried to get washing done for 4 days but could not due to the travellers working in shifts to get all their washing done. I got up at 6am one day to get a washing machine but could not get the items dried before I went home 3 days later. Shame there was only 2 tumble dryers. Washing machines are cheap at £1 per wash.
The 2 Toilet blocks are old and although the toilets themselves are cleaned daily the floors remained littered with toilet roll throughout the week. Friday was the main clean for the blocks but showers were not cleaned and the heaters did not work and it was often colder than outside. Make sure you don't look at the window ledges as you will find hair, cobwebs, dust and other non descriptive things up there. No place for plugs in the blocks so you have to use the silly '20p for 30 seconds' hair dryer they provided.
So to sum it up, I guess if you know what to expect then you can't be disappointed right?. I was well informed about this camp site before I went with my family but I have stayed in much nicer, cleaner campsites but none other has given my family the space and freedom to roam and play. I do think the good weather had a large part to play in our weeks stay as we were able to use the grounds.

We have just arrived home from a magic overnight stay at Haughton. (despite the fact it rained and was a bit on the chilly side!)
On arrival we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the site, the beautiful setting in a woodland area and general good upkeep.
We had a few pitch options and chose the walled garden which was right next to a play area which was very handy as we have a 4year old son, also only a minute from a clean toilet / shower block, which also has dish wash facility.
Tapped drinking water right next to our tent and clean bin area. Large grass area for our son to run about, though I guess would be busier in summer.
Lots to do for our son-places for him to cycle his bicycle, two large play areas, friends to play with, woodland walks, putting, pool and ping pong tables too although we didn't try those this time!
Also a little diesel train that takes you to Alford, which houses Transport Museum, which often does 'Family fun' days-great as son and husband are motor mad. We got to ride round the track on an old Snowplough, fire engine and a wee train, and there was also a bouncy castle next to the play area.
Alford also has hotel, a few restaurants, take aways and shops, a dry ski slope and swimming pool.
I had not been to this site since I was a child and we feel it exceeded our expectations, great for kids, we really had a lovely time and our son is exhausted from all the fun!
Will be back very soon!
