We stayed here for 2 nights in August 2010. Nice flat site with plenty of space and close to local village. Loads of play areas for kids and walks for the dog.
Facilities were average at best, toilets a bit dated and could have been cleaner but for 2 nights they were fine.
For scenery and location there were no grumbles at all and we would probably go back if in the area.
The shop contained only basic items and did not really carry much camping gear and was not licensed to sell alcohol but that was not a problem as local shops were nearby for the bottle of wine to have with tea.

Just spent another quick weekend on this site, been here a few times before. Lovely location in a wooded country park next to a river, plenty of walks but the shine is going off this site for us.
Booking these Grampian Council sites online is hit and miss, trying to book eventually using telephone. No problem, pitch booked through the week but on arrival (and waiting in line to book in and pay) found someone else had decided to use our pitch and we were moved 'automatically' to a smaller pitch which we could not use due to our van size. Site warden told us that this was our fault as we had not specified 'fixed' pitch when booking!
Toilets are semi-clean and could do with some updating to match site fees as paint flaking off walls and roof mounted vents covered in dust and fluff although showers are hot enough, free and normally not too busy.
The biggest problem with this site is the apparent lack of warden control, no wardens seen patrolling site during our stay which manifests itself as poor control over visitor etiquette, there are people using this site that have no ideas about acceptable protocol, multiple noisy dogs appear mandatory, loud music at night, noisy children, multiple cars & visitors are all acceptable to the wardens here.
If you like to have something to complain about we recommend a visit here soon although most tenters seemed happy enough.

We have just come back from a long weekend away. We managed to pick our own pitch quite close to the toilet block and play park as we have 4 children. There is plenty to do, and the children were never fed up. There is plenty of walks and wildlife to see as both of our springers enjoyed.
The past few times we have been there we had to leave the park to go to the local shops for any supplies but this year they have now opened a site shop which was basic but fine.
The toilet/shower blocks are clean but very dated, there is only 2 showers in one of the blocks but I never had to wait and there was plenty of hot water.
In the village is the transport museum which was excellent and it has its own t-room as well, not far from that is the Alford railway where you can take the train back to the park. We ate at the Alford bistro and could not fault is with excellent food and service.
I would say that it is not overpriced and good value for money - it is run by Aberdeenshire council.

This was our second visit to this site, the wardens were friendly and helpful. The site is situated in a beautiful country park and there are two play areas for the children as well as games room in the house where there are pool and ping pong tables available as well as an out side putting green and games to board games to rent for the children.
The toilets are situated under the main house and are entered by key code there is plenty of hot water and the showers are large and clean there are plenty toilets though they could do with an upgrade but the main thing is they were clean and fresh.
Pets are welcome on the site with plenty of dog walks. Because we had a dog we had to set up in front of the big house, but we knew from a earlier visit that this is the noisy area where the group bookings are put, so we set up to the side of the house which was nice and quiet.
We discovered Alford Dry Ski Slope on this visit where they have tube sessions available and boy was that fun though you have to phone ahead to book a session. We also had a trip on the little train which runs from the park to Alford
We will return to this site again. The only down side to this site is that there is no Warden on duty at night and there was a static caravan full of teenagers who sang and carried on through the night but we were far enough away from them to not be bothered too much by the noise

Spent 4 nights hear, lovely site set in a beautiful country park. Beautiful walks, loads of play areas, golf course, miniature railway, Transport museum all within a few miles of the park.
Site is set in woods so satellite reception is a hit or miss. Warden was very friendly. Toilets were clean but could do with a bit of modernizing.
Probably wouldn't come back here again as kids were bored after 4 nights as there did not seem to be many kids there of their age group, but would still recommend to anyone to try.

Campsite well maintained. Toilets were clean and the dish washing facilities were good the site wardens were friendly and easy going. Our son enjoyed the games room and putting as well as the little diesel train that takes you to Alford. He spent hours in the 2 on site play parks. Their were plenty of dog walks within the country park. The only thing that spoiled our stay was the group of noisy neighbours in the cluster of tents next to ours. We would definitely return as there was plenty to keep our son and the dog occupied.

I found this website so useful in my search for a campsite, that I wanted to contribute too. Just returned from a fabulous long weekend at Haughton Park, which we booked after reading reviews here. Was not disappointed. Of course the weather helped but the campsite was superb and from young to old we all had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
Superb sites for tent, we were opposite the big house as we had a dog, but I would actually have chosen this site anyway. Set admist mature trees with wide open spaces. Did not feel at all cramped in. Site staff were helpful and were happy to freeze iceblocks each day for us.
There was an endless supply of very hot water and although site was pretty busy we didn't once have to queue to use facilities. Toilets dated yes, but very clean and fresh. Superb laundry available at a very modest £1 per load. Plenty of fresh water stances. Lots of people there having good times, but all was quiet by 10.30pm at night and sleep was undisturbed.
The park itself was a superb location for a family holiday.Excellent play parks dotted around, a trim track, 18 hole putting course, table tennis, pool tables (50p a go), pond dipping, woodland walks, riverside walk - extremely pretty and perfect for an evening stroll, lots of information on the notice board and ideas of things to do etc etc No shop on site but only 2 minutes drive or 10 minute walk to village. Butchers, bakers, small shops, little Co-Op etc all available.
We used the local swimming pool which was enjoyed by all. In Alford, there is a Transport museum and dry ski slope as well as the pool and a lovely little train runs all day from the camp site to Alford to add more fun for the kids. Further afield so much to do, whisky distilleries galore, or even the Granite City itself! We really can't fault our weekend, and as a first time camping family in many a year it has got us back in the mood and certainly set the standard for future trips. Cannot recommend Haughton Park enough! And very cheap too as council run! Enjoy.

Wonderful site good dish washing toilet/shower facilities. 2 nice play area for the children and a big field for ball games etc. Our son enjoyed the putting area. The dog enjoyed the walks through the country park.
The little train which runs from the country park to the town was fun for the kids.
The wardens were friendly and laid back the down side was that they were no overnight wardens which meant we were pitched next to a noisy cluster of campers out for a weekend gathering till all hour of the morning and there were a couple of cars that used the road and car park as a race track !
We will go back but will pitch a bit further away from the car park in front of the big house :)

Spent one night at Haughton Park, our first time camping. We've been to the park for picnics before, it is fantastic which is why we wanted to come here first.
Pitched in the walled garden, lovely location really close to children's play area, so 5 year old had lots of fun. Noisy neighbours kept us awake but couldn't dampen the enjoyment of the evening. Neighbours on other side complained to management next day though.
Toilets were in good order, although other facilities seemed a bit limited, but Alford is close enough, with plenty of shops to get any shopping needed.
Will definitely go back once we've tried a few other places. Will try the narrow gauge railway next time.

Spent a long weekend on this wonderful site. Wardens were very helpful and friendly and nothing was any problem to them. We got to pick any area of park and had a very secluded spot. Toilet and washing facilities are a bit dated but kept extremely clean and water was piping hot no matter what time of day. Alford is only a 5min walk or a nice train ride from park to motor museum, which is well worth a visit. Lots for younger kids to do with many play parks, putting, pool, table tennis etc. There were 6 of us in 3 tents and all were of the opinion we would be back again very soon !.
