This was our 3rd visit this year, and our longest at 8 nights. Once again it was wonderful, whenever we go there the weather is always just right! Even when Welsummer is busy it never feels over crowded, and as we always pitch in the same place in the woods it is very private. We had our hammock swinging in the trees and our colourful lanterns and felt at home at once!

The girls love it there, it's so good for them to get away from the television! They don't even miss it! In the evening we enjoyed going to the orchard and watching the bats, not for everyone but we love it. My youngest daughter made a lot of friends all of whom were lovely.

As usual Med & Laura were lovely, kind and very helpful and now the hot is fixed in the shower I had my first ever hot shower there! We truly recommend this place if you are after a bit of peace and tranquillity :)

 What a fabulous site.

The owners gave us a warm welcome and a choice of pitch. They were very friendly and checked to make sure we had every thing we needed.

The fire pits are great and with one per pitch you're guaranteed a real campfire if you so wish.

A very quiet site with space for children to play.

There was a blackboard with daily offers or ideas for trips out.

You can also buy fresh free range eggs on site (if available).

The showers were powered by a wood burning stove which even after a day out walking were still warm enough.

Toilets and showers were basic but clean.

Compared to other sites I thought it was a little expensive for 2 nights but we enjoyed our stay.

A great site and will definitely revisit

Our stay at welsummer was fantastic! My husband myself and our 3 children and their 2 friends, made I know! We stayed in the woods, great atmosphere lovely and rustic. Having a campfire makes it that bit more special!
Toilet facilities are adequate, and the showers are a blessing, when your camping these things are a luxury! You really couldn't ask for more friendly, helpful people to be running a campsite, Med and his wife are so lovely.
They have a shop on site selling tea, coffee, lolly's, sweets, logs ext! All the children made some lovely friends with other campers, I really cant think of 1 downfall!

A truly beautiful campsite in beautiful surroundings. No sky glow, so star watching is fantastic. The campfires are a great feature, we used ours for cooking as well as keeping us warm in the evening.

Laura was lovely and really helpful. The communal fridge was great as was the freezer which you were allowed to freeze your ice packs in.

The facilities are not great. Very basic and the hot water is hit and miss, but great for basic camping. Only 2 toilets and 2 showers, 1 each for men and ladies, in the same building. The facilities would struggle on busy weekends, (I feel) but as it was fairly quiet when we were there, it was not too bad.

My husband felt they could have been cleaned better, ie, cobwebs cleared, mirror above the sink polished etc. I was happy though as I know Laura cleaned them every day.

The dish-washing facilities were very basic. No roof, which was fine for us as we had no rain but I think if it were wet you would feel fairly miserable. Who likes washing up anyway, but in the rain?

Other than that I would highly recommend this camp site, We camped in the first field near the facilities and had a great time. My children made full use of the paddling pool and toys supplied. The woods were lovely, and camping in the woods would be great, but for smaller tents only.

There are some gorgeous walks in the Kent countryside and the local pub, The Pepperbox, has a fantastic menu. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced, well worth the walk.(Don't drive as you will miss out on some beautiful views on the way!)

The site is quiet, beautiful and friendly.

We absolutely loved Welsummer, it was our first camping trip with children. We stayed for 2 nights, 4 adults and 3 children under 5.

Because of the safe set up of the site the children happily ran and explored freely. You are able to unload the car but have to park away from the camping area. Most of the people staying here had children and they all had a great time mixing and having fun together, really easy to relax having them in eye view at all times.

Being able to have a campfire was a real plus point and added to the atmosphere of this fantastic site.

Toilets and showers were clean. A bit hit and miss on the hot water but a wood burner is used to heat the water so loved the ethos together with the recycling area.

No play area for the children but I see this as a plus point, they played and explored with each making up their own games.

Along one side of the fields are the woods, where you can also camp, we had great adventures with our torches going on bear hunts, you then pop out into an orchard, a 20 minute walk will get you to the Pub for refreshments and food.

Only met Med he was friendly and helpful.

You can buy limited supplies from them and logs for £3 a bag.

Wouldn't hesitate recommending and look forwarding forward to visiting again next year

Campsite that is 'Eco friendly' generally means no facilities and with Welsummer that is the case. Never mind the fact that its 'camping', the facilities were inadequate, and the showers are mostly cold water. Same with the sole Butler sink that is the washing up facility, this is just not adequate for an entire campsite. The two toilets are passable however many won't like the plywood divider between the mens and ladies.

Pitches are OK but not remarkable although they do benefit from having a fire pit and logs are cheap from the site shop.

Now the one big upside - some pitches are located in the woods and these are terrific to the point that all else can be forgiven. Here you will have a true back to nature experience and this is the only reason you would go to this site so be sure to insist on one.

There is a growing trend towards back to basics camping but site operators need to strike the right balance. Unfortunately, this one falls short in some areas but with a little expenditure it could be the place to go.

What a fabulous find such a beautiful site.

Owners very friendly and helpful and made our stay very homely.

Pitches not huge with a large tent (Gelet cyclone 6) if you want to use the fire pit a smaller tent option would be better for the weekend. Fire pits such a lovely idea and when they were all lit across the site in the evening the mood was very mellow. Quiet and friendly site. People were pitches in the woods which looked good fun but we pitched in the field and there was an additional field for the children to play in which was a fantastic idea for football and frizbees.

Blackboard offering french toast with cranberries and full english breakfast is a fabulous idea. Also the fact you can buy sausages, bacon, free range eggs and milk etc from the shop is great.

Our children 5 and 8 loved playing in the woods and orchards and this allowed them freedom from us whilst still not being far away. They made such lovely friends on our visit they did not want to go home.

Toilet facilities quite sufficient but the showers were cold when we attempted them but may have just been bad timing on our part and as the earlier review says for a few nights which children want to wash anyway.

Very close to Leeds castle which made a good day out for the children.

We have just got back from our first night camping, We choose Welsummer as it was local and allowed camp fires which turned out to be amazing. We were not disappointed at all with the campsite it was everything we expected and more,

The campsite was lovely, very friendly, and excellent for children too. I have a 5 year old and 4 year old and they loved exploring the woodland as well as playing in the small sandpit near the office area. The owners where really friendly and helpful too.

We have already booked another stay there later in the month.

Good points: pleasant site, flat field surrounded by trees. Camp fire pits. Owner takes recycling and sells eggs, logs, chutney and makes fridge and freezer available to campers. Eco-friendly. Owners lend small laminated maps showing walks from site and to good local pubs.

Negatives: too many kids for us. Facilities very basic (showers often cold or go cold (or off!) when someone turns a hot tap on somewhere).

A lovely lovely site, I agree with most of what has been written before. I'd like to keep it a secret! Small, very friendly, lovely helpful owners. Good for families. Med's egg and bacon sarnies were fab! Nice local walks. The firepits or course are a great bonus.

Not a site if you want loads of activities, or mod cons, or to have a big party. The facilities are basic, but clean.

Note that the local pub The Pepper Box don't allow children inside, and don't take bookings for outside.

We went to the The Windmill in Hollingbourne instead which was a short drive away and was nice. They were very accommodating of our large group of 5 families, although seemed a bit overwhelmed by us at first, but soon relaxed when they realised we were not going to cause a riot. The food there was good, and they have a small playarea in the garden.

Remember to take cash with you as we had difficulty finding a local free cashpoint, and the campsite prefer cash payment.

All in all a lovely memorable weekend. The children had such a wonderful time and talked about it for a long time afterwards. We hope to return again this summer.
