We decided that we would go camping this past weekend and risk the rain. So we booked this place and I think we got the last pitch! When we arrived the owner asked if the woods would be ok for us and we were like Great as I only thought it was a field we would be in! What a great surprise as we were able to camp in the woods that surrounded the owners fields. Each pitch was cleared out, we stayed in the Pink Corner and had an area designated for our fire. There were a few more couples that arrived who stayed in the woodland area but the pitches were spread far enough apart for you to feel like you were the only ones there. It was nice to know there were others around though as it does get very dark in there quickly.
The owners were a lovely couple, very friendly and helpful. We bought firewood from them (£5 a bag) as well as eggs in the morning. The toilet block is just two toilets, only cold water in the taps and no showers except for solar ones which are hung up in the trees. The site is eco friendly so recycling everything is encouraged by the owners.
Lenham and Headcorn are two villages near by. We stopped in Headcorn and there was a great butchers and a Sainsbury local to stock up on the necessities. Pluckley is also close which is supposed to be the most haunted village in England!
We got back to the camp site and set up everything then went for a walk through the woods which lead onto some really nice walking paths.
This place was great for a little break and the experience of being able to camp in the woods was excellent. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend it if you do go there and manage to get a pitch in the woods.

Myself, my 3 year old daughter and 2 dogs set off from Whitstable on Friday evening for an enjoyable scenic 30 min driver to Welsummer, when we got there we instantly knew we would have a wonderful time. The site has a rustic charm which reminds me of the campsites that I spent my childhood at many years ago. We were met by Med who kindly pointed out our pitch. We had a great pitch with loads of space (not like other sites when they pack them in). We paid for the pitch which was very reasonable and as well as a couple of few bags of firewood. To be able to light a fire in the evenings was so lovely and the smell of burning firewood and cooking food made it an adorable evening. All the other campers on the site were really friendly and there was a great mixed groups of younger children which my daughter played with. We set off for a walk in the morning with the dogs through the woods which have a couple of excellent pitches and discovered the apple orchards which was wonderful, the site is so quiet and peaceful and it has an excellent vibe about it. After our we bought some tasty free-range organic eggs freshly laid by the sites hens and settled down for breakfast, the rest of the days was just spent chatting to the other campers and lazing about. I would love to tell people about this site but would also like to keep it to myself because it is so wonderful and a great little hideaway from the weeks stresses. I really like what the owners are doing about the environment and its a great start to education the younger children etc. A possible solar powered hot shower would be a benefit for the longer stay. We can't wait to get back there xx

We were looking for a nice and small campsite around Faversham area, and we found Welsummer!
The campsite is lovely, for tents only. It's really quiet, there are 3 areas, 2 fields and the 'woodland'.
We went for the field, and booked a pitch with an allocated campfire. That was probably what we enjoyed the most.
The owners are really friendly, and have a little shop where you can buy hot drinks, breakfast, the wood for the campfire, and all of these for really small price.
They also have on offer organic products direct from the garden.
The facilities, apart from that, cover all the basic. Toilets block are clean, however there is no hot water (and no shower) at the moment.
The owners plan to build showers (eco-friendly) with hot water soon.
The surroundings are really nice, fantastic countryside with foot paths to walk around.
Faversahm has a market 3 days a week, and Leeds castle is wonderful. The owner recommended the visit, which was worth it.
We had a great time, and look forward to escape again from the city and go back!

This site is for tents only, there are several small fields and the tents are pitched round the edges so there is plenty of room in the middle for children to play. We spent an idyllic Saturday and Sunday lazing in the sun and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The owners are very welcoming and sell hot and cold drinks, freshly baked bread, free range eggs etc.
It is a basic campsite - there is cold water only, no showers and only 2 toilets (bathroom was however clean and well supplied). But for a weekend it was perfect, it was mainly families with young children and - oh I nearly forgot - you can light your own campfire! We weren't organised enough to do that, but plenty of people did and our children quite happily sat round next door's campfire for a while. The owners sell the wood.
There are shops and pubs a few miles down the road. Not far from Leeds Castle.
We will definitely be going back!

This is a great little camp site, very quiet and set in a lovely little spot, its about 15 mins from the Leeds Castle turning M20. There are a lot of lovely villages nearby, Lenham has a good range of pubs and shops and is not that far from Wellsummer. We were greeted on arrival and shown our pitches, site rules were explained and after that we were left to get on with it, although advice is freely available.
Facilities are at the moment pretty basic, there is a toilet block and washing facilities but no showers. I believe the owners are looking into providing solar showers. The ethos of the camp is geared toward eco friendliness. Personally I had a great time at Wellsummer it was great to be able to have the open camp fire.
There are plenty of walkways nearby in fact you can walk to Leeds castle from Wellsummer camp if your feeling brave. All in all a great camping experience.

We searched everywhere for a pitch on the Sunday of the later May bank holiday but alas everywhere was full. However, Welsummer said they had room, so we thought we would have a go (but didn't expect much given it was the only site with pitches free).
The site was easy to find, and as soon as we had driven up the path Med came out to greet us and show us our pitch. We were a large group with 3 cars, 1 large and 2 smaller tents. Med gave us a very large pitch complete with campfire circle - the cost was £40.
The pitch was flat, although rutted in places. Med brought us a few wheelbarrows full of logs (at £2.50 per barrow it is very well priced). We explored the facilities - the toilets are clean and at present have cold water only for the basins. However, Med confirmed his plans to plumb in hot water and install showers by the middle of this summer. They also had a small room with a fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, toaster and various home produced foods on offer (including eggs). Med made us all breakfast as well!
What an absolutely fantastic campsite - we will definitely go back! A gem in the heart of Kent.

We had a lovely time at Wellsummer! The site is small and tidy, with flat pitches. The family who run it are very friendly and helpful including the children! It is quiet apart from the birdsong which was lovely first thing in the morning. At present there is a clean toilet block with 2 toilets and washing facilities but there is no hot water or showers, although the owners are organising these facilities. Campfires are allowed and you can buy logs on site. The owners will cook you breakfast (their own chickens' eggs) and sell tea, coffe, OJ etc. There is a beautiful little wood to explore, great for kiddies, which was full of bluebells on our visit.
Locally there are many little country pubs and Maidstone is a 20 minute drive away (swimming pool at Mote Park useful for a shower!). Leeds Castle is also a short drive from the site.
Looking forward to going back ~ even without hot water!
