My Family and I have just returned from a camping trip to Welsummer.
We had one large tent two small tents 5 adults one small dog.
We had two nights Friday and Saturday.
First to arrive on an almost empty field was great, had a choice of plot although some were booked.
We had two plots and was charged £76.
As the evening went on the camp site got very full and cramped, I could hear the man in the next tent snoring they were that close.
There was hundreds of young children running around with balls screaming most of the time.
The log fires had nice pits and logs on sale were only £3, we were told they were from fallen trees, but I don't think so as they were green and looked like they came from cut down trees.
The toilets were very disappointed, only two in the same block one for men one for woman, we were asked not to flush urine and only to flush poo, this made me feel sick having to look at other campers wee in the toilet.
There was only one sink for adults and one small one for children.
Two showers with cold water, the water was meant to be hot if you went early, but we never found any. I braved a cold shower on the Saturday afternoon, after putting shampoo on my hair the water then stopped flowing altogether as some one used a tap, this made the shower stop.
Only one sink out side for washing dishes, always campers waiting in turn to use it and some being very greedy not letting others get a look in.
For the amount of campers there should be more toilets sinks and showers, and it would be good if it was cleaned now and again, to remove a few cobwebs.
The walks around the camp site were very nice, a walk to The Pepper Box Inn was lovely, The food in the pub was great and lovely friendly bar staff, big portions and a good price, lovely gardens and clean toilets.
The free range eggs at Welsummer are lovely ! very nice indeed as are the chickens lovely to watch.
We were disappointed with the camp site although we had a nice time, next time we will pick one with better washing and toilets.

Hmmm, I beg to differ slightly from the previous reviews in that although the pitches were nice and the ability to have a fire a novelty these days, this was completely overshadowed during our visit by the facilities which were filthy, inadequate, and the showers pitiful. I appreciate they are trying to run an 'eco friendly' site, however cleanliness should still not be overlooked. Also a roof of some description over the washing up sink to keep the rain off would have been nice.
Just to add, we are not fussy people and have camped at many sites over the years with basic, but nevertheless, clean facilities. Unfortunately this is one site we won't be returning to.

Just returned from Welsummer - our first visit but it will certainly not be our last! Small, super-friendly, quiet, family run site. Yes, we were blessed with fab weather but the site was perfect for us. Loved the forest/orchard for the kids to play in, loved the fact that we could cook over an open fire, loved the fresh flowers in the toilet block, loved the fresh eggs, bread and muffins onsite, loved the eco-friendly status, loved the friendly folk that run it. Showers not totally fabulous - but this in no way spoiled our visit (who can get their kids to wash when camping anyway?!) Would have no hesitation in recommending. Thank you Welsummer and see you again soon!

If you are looking for a traditional campsite Welsummer is the one.
A lovely small site with pitches in two small field areas or you can pitch in the woodland and each has a campfire
We pitched in the field as you would need a smallish tent for the Woods and we felt it was a bit too secluded and the woods dense and not for us but some would love it.
The site was full when we went and mostly families / family groups with young children who played together very well. There is a field for ball games and basic shower / toilet /washing up facilities, also a fridge / freezer available to campers. Great footpath network from the site and Headcorn has shops for your needs.
Laura and Med are a lovely couple and very helpful and always on hand, they sell basics including home-made bread etc.
We enjoyed our stay very lucky with the weather and would recommend this site as long as you are happy to camp in a traditional style.
Dogs are welcome
Logs can be bought for £3 per bag.

This idyllic little tent-only hideaway is so beautiful that I almost want to keep it 'my secret'! The tent area of the campsite is nestled between a small orchard area and a wood, with an area available for 'wild camping' within the wood itself. In May the bluebells were out in abundance and a walk through the woods is a must.
Welsummer is a small, quaint, family and dog friendly site with owners, Laura and Med, who welcome you personally. They have paid particular attention in making their campsite friendly and accessible to all, encouraging re-cycling and adding their own quirky touches to ensure it doesn't fall into the manicured, regimented and staid sites of so many campsites we've visited.
The M20/A20 traffic, although not far away, is barely audible. To be woken by birdsong and a cock crowing far outweighs this.
There are miles of woodland and country lane walks nearby with a beautiful little pub (The Pepper Box Inn, a 400yr old pub) a 10min walk away, which serves reasonably priced lunches with a courtyard for al fresco eating.
Camp fires are allowed for each pitch with wood available from the Camp Shop.
Free range eggs are the freshest we've ever had and are available from the chickens kept by Laura and Med. Warm home-baked wholemeal muffins were wonderful and available at breakfast time along with a small supply of food (baked beans, home baked bread etc) should you run out.
There are a mix of campers, ranging from the 20 something couples and groups to families with young children to middle-aged couples with small dogs (us being the latter!). What is apparent and encouraged is a zest and respect for ecology and recycling with well placed and signed bins for the recycling and energy saving bulbs in the little wooden washroom / shower / toilet block which, although basic, serves needs and has its very own 'character'.
Small touches such as an old perfume bottle filled with a sprig of wild flower and a hand-painted sign that welcomes you to the wood, puts Welsummer in the bracket of campsites that have a real homely and welcoming feel good factor.
A truly beautiful little site that is a real gem. Thoroughly recommended for anyone who wants to go away for a quiet weekend but feel as though they've been away for a week! Utopia!

This was our first visit to welsummer but it certainly won't be our last! It's one of those places that has a 'feel good' factor about it, the atmosphere is tranquil, peaceful and happy. Everyone who owns and runs the site were lovely and very helpful! We pitched our tent in the 'Pink Corner' within the woodland. The bluebells took your breath away and even our dog was extra happy!
The toilet facilities were clean and include everything you need to keep clean, even a mini sink for the little people. There is fresh food for sale as well and meals! These we did not sample on this occasion but the fresh eggs were wonderful.
Cooking on a campfire is always great fun and when you are surrounded by such lovely scenes it's difficult to imagine being anywhere else. I really enjoyed being slowly woken up each morning by the natural progression of nature and equally enjoyed being sang to sleep every night by an owl!
There is so much countryside to explore and breathtaking views it was hard for us to pack up and go home! In two weeks we are going back and this time we are taking the children with us to share in this wonderful experience.!

First time campers when we arrived at Welsummer, we have our favourite pitch in the woods now and have been 3 times.
This campsite is family run and the family are always there for you, and even offered to go to the shops for us, fresh baked bread and fresh laid eggs daily.
We are actually hoping the site will be open this weekend, as we would love to come down, if not, will hope to see you all next year!

This was our first visit to Welsummer. We camped in the woodland area for two nights.
The facilities were basic but very adequate- two toilets and sinks (the showers aren't finished yet) and a washing-up sink, all with cold water only, but lots of nice touches like a child-height sink and flowers.
The owners, Laura and Med, and Laura's dad, were really friendly and helpful, and the home-made bread (still warm) was delicious.
I was also impressed that they asked a noisy group to turn their car stereo off.
The big bonus is the chance to enjoy your own campfire- we cooked on ours too.
The site is very friendly and would be best suited to couples and families with children. I think large groups of teenagers would probably feel a bit restricted here.
The area is great for cycling (very quiet roads) and walking (loads of footpaths) and we'll definitely go back.

We have just booked our 5th weekend at welsummer.
We includes hubby, me, a 13yr old staff and an 8 month American bulldog!
Our first visit was without the pup, finding our feet etc.
It is the most beautiful place to stay with lots of nature all over the place.
There is the option of camping in the woodland area or on the fields.
Campfires are welcome and the owners sell carefully harvested wood from their trees for use.
The owners and family are big on conservation and recycling so expect to learn a few things.
Tents are a must as caravans and motor homes are not welcome here.
Fairly well behaved dogs and children are to be found in abundance.
Fees are very reasonable and you can get a decent tea and coffee, and even a freshly cooked breakfast if you so desire.
Fresh eggs from the camps hens are usually available to buy along with other fresh veg.
The facilities are basic and there is no running hot water but that's fine by us. If we want luxury we'll go to a hotel!

A lovely quiet campsite. It was our first time camping with our two boys, aged 10 and 7 who loved it (thankfully!). We had borrowed a rather large tent from friends and on arrival soon realised we needed two pitches! This was sorted out quickly and easily by Med and a 'special' price charged! Our boys loved the campfire and setting light to their marshmallows!
We visited Leeds Castle which was really good. We also went to Mote Park Leisure Pool (needed a wash!) which was also really good and highly recommended by our boys.
The toilets were very clean and I can't say our boys were upset at the fact they couldn't shower!
A really good time had by all and we'll be back!
