Wow. What a difference new owners make!
We came here 2yrs ago & couldn't wait to leave. After this recent stay we will definitely be back.
Ladies toilet/shower room is very clean & modern.
Field is tidy & neat.
Owners very helpful & gave us information on the area.
Owners starting men's toilet block soon.
Had a nose through windows of pub & it's looking lovely.
Will definitely be coming back!

Since my last review in 2016, the new owners have made improvements to the toilets and showers, which are freshly decorated with new doors - and not before time.
The few electrical hook-ups in the field (with no hard-standing)are dangerous to use, being at ground level, uncovered and with no cut-outs.
The washing-up area remains the same (2 outdoor sinks), currently made unusable by birds nesting above them. There is one old washing machine (and another in the Ladies clearly labelled 'Private').
WiFi is still only available at the pub/restaurant. The décor and menu in there has certainly improved, though it seems that campers are being asked to pay for the refurbishment whether they use it or not.
The previous small reduction for those campers using the Harwich ferry no longer exists and, at £25 a night, the price has increased by 25% since my visit less than a year ago. The owner was not interested in giving any discounts, such as for Seniors or those dining there. This is the most I have paid for a night in my recent tour of Ireland, Scotland and England. Those arriving from the continent will be equally shocked. It is not worth paying so much for a quick overnight, leaving at 7 am to drive to the port, which involves several miles along a narrow overgrown lane.

The level grass campsite behind the Strangers Home pub has really deteriorated in recent years.
There is now a barrier to keep itinerants out, but the toilet/shower block is outdated, grubby and unheated. The outside wash-up sink is dirty and there is an elderly washing machine.
Free WiFi inside the pub only - not on the camping field.
It's a handy site for those using the Harwich-Holland ferry, but there is no other reason for me to stay here.
The pub used to have good evening meals and cooked breakfasts, but that is also a thing of the past. It doesn't open until noon (so no breakfast) and there were only tasteless pies on offer in the evening.
All very disappointing and overpriced.

Went here for my brothers stag do. Nice clean and friendly campsite with a great pub with lovely food. The owners and staff were great and was always there and happy to help. Can't wait to go back. Thanks.

We have stayed here in the past and like the site. A coded barrier has now been installed at the entrance.
We found no indication of any problem and only found out during conversation. The site is clean and facilities good. The pub puts on live music and we felt very welcome.
We look forward to going back.

Bit disappointed. Booked last week and travelled down only to find the site overrun with travellers. Toilets were overflowing and bits strewn on site. Reception had a note on door saying that it was closed due to unforeseen circumstances and wouldn't know when it would be open again.
Whilst I sympathise totally, as it looks a great site, the management could have let us known.

We rang earlier in the week to book this campsite, a very friendly helpful lady booked us in.
We had read on the website that it was £20 a night with electric and £18 without so when we arrived and were charged £44 for 2 nights obviously we queried it. Apparently a lot of people have been querying it too, the website is wrong, its £22 a night with or without electric, as they wouldn't honour the price quoted on the website we really had no choice but to pay the £22 a night which was rather disappointing but with a car loaded up with your stuff and a weekend planned around the area you are left with no other options.
A lovely big pitch, nice level grass, very friendly owners, a few residential vans on site, no problems - we had a great weekend.
The toilets/showers are tired, and apart from immediately after they had been cleaned they were left a bit grubby from other campers, why cant people just do simple things like flush the toilet - but that's not the campsites fault.
We had a lovely weekend but probably wouldn't return due to the pricing issues

Our second visit to this friendly relaxed site on the Stour Estuary. If you are looking for a quiet, adults only site, then this is not for you. The weekend of our visit was very warm and the site was packed with families enjoying themselves. A bouncy castle is provided for the children and a live bank booked for the Saturday evening was very popular.
The adjoining pub is popular and the landlord / site manager an easy going, friendly chap.
This site is well run, without the multitude of rules and regulations applied by The Caravan Club and some other commercial sites.
Facilities are a little tired, but perfectly adequate, with copious quantities of free hot water.
The surrounding Stour Estuary is lovely, especially the shoreline at Wrabness.

This place was flat, a lot of space and quiet at the beginning.
The owner's of the pub very helpful, polite and supportive.
The facilities were clean and tidy.
The shower units and wash area was ok until the site got packed out by the weekend.
Not many local shops close to the site but knowing the area we found what we wanted.
The place was ideal for us to visit old time places.
Only stayed on the site for breakfast and supper as travelled around.
Evening times was a bit noisy with children as the pub had a play area and some running around the site most of the day.
But had a great time.

The site is flat and caters for approximately 50 units. Plots are average in size. The site was nearly full for the weekend we stayed but only has 2 showers and 3 toilets for both ladies and gents so we were a bit worried that these would be very busy during peak times. Surprisingly though there was not a problem. Toilet facilities were dated and would best be described as fairly clean. The shower pressure puts many sites to shame and this could be described as excellent.
Cycling is good from the site through the lanes though take the minor roads if doing so with children.
The co-located pub is OK and is well utilised so anyone preferring a quiet stay might wish to take this into account. The pot washing area cannot be recommended.
We consider the cost of £20 per night to be excessive when compared with others
