I was staying as part of a small group visiting the Llandegla MTB trail centre. The campsite is basic but perfect for our needs. The washing facilities and loo block were very clean and adequate, it could have been useful to have a few more showers. That said, the showers had a good hot water supply more so than other campsites I have been to.
It had rained prior and during our visit so the ground was quite waterlogged but seemed to drain quite well surprisingly.
The site strikes me as a site that caters well for all campers, including families, couples and groups. There were all on site and there was no trouble whatsoever.
We ate in The Crown Hotel a very stones throw from the site which was a great laugh and had good sized portions at a good price which after a days riding at the trail centre was perfect.
We were welcomed on the site by the owner and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
I would readily recommend this site to others looking to use the Llandegla MTB trial centre or are visiting the local area. I will definitely be using this site again when visiting the centre.

We visited Llyn Rhys in april as me and my girlfriend were both about to sit some tough exams. On arrival the site was really relaxed and quiet and the lady who ran it was so welcoming it was unreal. She was very polite and even gave my girlfriend some advice on how to relax as her daughter had just done a degree also. We where shown around the site and told where we could pitch up and where was best for certain activities. We chose the first field you come to on the right by the stream that runs through the site. The field was a perfect lawn with no gravel or anything to damage the ground sheets. On arrival there was no o2 signal in the area to contact our family, the lady kindly allowed us to use her own personal house phone, We sat back and enjoyed our stay through out. There was a very friendly atmosphere and was completely silent after half past ten which was a bonus. My advice to anyone staying here would be to not bring your own firepits or wood etc because the lady hires them out for £5 and sells a large bag of wood along with a bag of paper and kindling enough to light two fires.
This is one of those sites that the owner actually takes pride in rather than just a source of income which a lot are becoming now. The only down side to this stay was that the shower facility didn't have much power as it was ran on a small boiler powering the whole block, but who goes camping to get clean? The whole site was pristine, I witnessed the owner on both days clean the shower blocks and toilets etc at 11:30PM, right through the day she was out cleaning rather than most sites once a day.
We will be back very soon :)

This was my second visit to Llyn Rhys in the space of a month. It is that good!
Mrs. Hughes is very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. She is more than happy to point out the local walks and even leant me her map.
The facilities at the campsite are very good and clean, with toilets, showers and washing-up facilities. The field is very nice and level with stunning views of the local countryside.
The site is excellent value for money - it was £7. 50 pppn (including shower) when I stayed there.
The Offa's Dyke path runs very close to the farm and the excellent Llandegla Forest mountain bike/walking trails are within a short drive. There are two local pubs but I didn't get to sample them. I highly recommend a visit to Rosie's Cider farm, five minutes' walk away.
All-in-all an excellent site.

Wendy and I visited Llyn Rhys Farm site again (for the 6th or 7th time) over the Bank Holiday weekend, staying on until the Thursday. This site just gets better and better.
We set up just before darkness fell and as the heat of the day was beginning to disperse. As we sat there enjoying our cupper and watching the darkness descend on the field, it was like returning home.
Looking around, folks were sitting around the braziers that Christine, the owner hires out, talking with their Neighbours and the smell of the burning wood was heavenly. The couple in the camper van next to our pitch had offered to help me set up (as Wendy and I have this off to a fine art we declined) then as we sat there they came over for a friendly chat. What a fantastic end to our evening.
The following morning, up bright and early for a quick shower (the toilets, showers and dish washing facilities here are immaculate and kept that way all day and every day).
The owners are fantastic hosts and this seems to rub off on the people who visit this site. They are of all ages, couples, families, lone campers, mountain bikers, walkers, or just people relaxing like Wendy and I and many, like us on return visits.
This is one of the best sites for people actually talking to one another and getting to know each other. Despite having the preparations for a forthcoming family wedding to contend with, the owner’s standards at the site never dropped.
Our only regret was we were unable to bring our six year old Granddaughter with us on this occasion, as Llyn Rhys is by far her favourite camp site and she has never failed to enjoy her time here (she was three on her first visit).
This time around we were pleased to see that the new owners of the Crown Pub (two minuets walk away) have set the standards of their food high but the prices keen, well worth a trip if you are thinking of eating out.
This site is a perfect gateway to the local attractions and near enough to Snowdonia for day trips there too. Our advice to you. Try a weekend or a week at Llyn Rhys Campsite and you’ll almost certainly be hooked for life.

We visited for the first time and have to say it is not a site for us. (2 adults, 3 children aged 6, 4 and 17 mths)
I always think sites need to decide if they want to welcome families or not. This one does not but does not make that clear. It has far too many rules!
Camping, to us, is about sitting in a field relaxing whilst the kids play on their bikes and have fun. We stayed from Friday to Sunday and whilst the pitch itself was ok (although the road noise carries on all night and we were in the far field) the actual atmosphere was not good. We were told our kids had to be in our tents' immediate vicinity by 8pm and all quiet by 10pm. As we did not get there until nearly 7 this was not likely! In the morning we all made sure the children (5 in the whole group) did not go outside until after 7am but we are not capable of keeping a 16mth old completely silent until 9am! We were told someone had complained about the kids (age 4 and 6) being on their bikes at 8. 30pm and then again asked to keep our children more quiet in the morning.
I do not have a rowdy family and do not want to stay up into the small hours but anyone with young kids will know the real pleasure in camping is the freedom you can give them to explore a bit. They did not get within 20 feet of anyone else's tent at any time.
Camping for us, as a family, is about family time. Letting the kids enjoy the outdoors and stay up late in the dark for a fire and some marshmallows. We could let them do none of this.
It was the least enjoyable camping weekend I have ever experienced. (And we go about 10 weekends a year so are not novices) It may be a perfect location and site for single mountain bikers with no kids but it is not, and never will be, a family friendly site.
On a practical level, you are allowed fires and the loos are immaculate. But I'd take a portaloo and the ability to keep my kids up past 9pm anytime.
We ate at The Plough and it was great. Laid back and good standard pub grub. Mountain bike centre has great walking trails although they are longer than they look if you have a 4 year old!

Management response: I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us and I very much appreciate the task of keeping children quiet early in the morning especially in a tent in different surroundings.
I am very much a family based campsite, nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing children playing freely on the field with their family.
The concerns about the noise came from two other families with young children which I felt I had to respond to. Marshmallows around a campfire at night is what camping is all about. However as you will appreciate I like to keep to a cut off point of 12.00 midnight for no noise at all, 10.00 pm is be of no disturbance to other tents and in the mornings be considerate of the those who have not surfaced to ensure everyone has a comfortable stay. When there is a group enquiry I point these rules out so there is no confusion. |

We stopped at this site quite late for us, and was happily greeted by the owner. There was plenty of room to pitch our small tent with car next to it. Great toilet facilities spotlessly clean nice feminine touches to the ladies. Great utility mirrors and hand wash plentiful.
The showers are unisex but no problems with changing just remember to put the lid back on your clothes box as advised. Great hot powerful showers included in the price. We enjoyed hearing the cattle eating away and the sheep bleating proper farm sounds coming from surrounding fields a far cry from the noisy town which we left behind great escapism. Good fresh air. Feel good factor. Enough local facilities 2 pubs not far and a grill restaurant cannot comment as we didn't use them. Great base for striking out. Looking forward to returning from this very welcoming site.
By the way this was part of our honeymoon so extra special for us. Cannot comment really on children's facilities did not notice what was available

EXCELLENT campsite, run by friendly people.
Facilities are great, clean and all have that 'extra' something (washbowls, washing up liquid, facilities for drying clothes, steps for children to reach sinks etc).
The site is well situated near and fabulous pub called the Crown (with 10% off vouchers at the site).
Recycling buckets provided to enable you to recycle on site.
Christine was very helpful, even coming out in the rain to help us site our tent in the best available spot.
When heavy rain fell both Chritine and her husband were out strait away helping people out and diverting the rainwater away from the tents.
Site is close to Ruthin, Llangollen, Denbigh, etc. Only 20 mins from motorway.
Only thing missing would be maybe a little park for children?
We were VERY impressed with this site.

Just spent an AMAZING 3 nights staying at the Llyn Rhys Camp site. Never seen such a well maintained camp site! Toilets always fully stocked with plenty of toilet rolls, tissue and hand soap at the plenty. There were only 2 toilet cubicles in the ladies and 1 cubicle 1 urinal in the men's but never once had to wait (over the busy bank holiday as well) although there was an extra wash room round the back of the house but never went to say how many extra there were (there was also a snazzy baby change table in the ladies). Other users helped out by leaving it how they would expect to find it so never saw them in a state. Showers always had hot water when needed and glad to say they were a constant flow rather than them dreaded push button showers that you spend more time pushing the button than washing! there were two washing up sinks with sponges, washing up liquid and a towel all facilities were modernised and well maintained. (never saw any creepy crawlies either).
We stayed with hook up on the front pitch in between the river and the drive and apart from one night where we were joined by a couple in a tiny 2 man tent we had it all to our selves. From what I could tell from looking around the owner was very considerate and spaced everyone out well. As mountain bikers the owner offered to lock our bikes up in one of her buildings to which she was the only one with they key,
The site is closest to Llandegla forest but there was no way I was riding there it only took about 5 mins to drive but majority up hill and then a 21k ride on the black route round the forest, I knew driving up would be the best idea. Car parking at the forest was £4. 50 for the day but no qualms over paying this when you go round and see what a great job they have done building the trails.
After a hard ride The Crown pub was the place to go offering an amazing Sunday lunch at very reasonable pricing literally 2 mins walk from the camp site who also offer free WI-FI which was a bonus as the camp site had very limited signal service (but what more can you expect in the middle of Wales!).
Also as it being the countryside you have to expect all sorts of sounds from sheep on the farm in the morning to the farm across the way who had acquired a cockerel but nothing a set of ear plugs cant deal with, this in no way in the slightest hampered my stay at Llyn Rhys Camp site and I would recommend it to ANYONE. The owner was rushed off her feet with people turning up left right and centre with random arrivals looking for a pitch for the night as well as a second bus full of school kids that weren't expected until the next bank holiday but being the star she is the owner accommodated for everyone and made nobody feel left out.
I know I've rambled on but everyone should know how AMAZING the owner and the Llyn Rhys Camp site really are. 5* site 10/10. I just know that any other camp site I visit will be a complete let down compared to this one.
Thanks again and hope to come again soon

Really liked this site. It is family run and the owners very friendly. We had a lovely spot with hook up at the back of the field-very green and well looked after.
The toilet block is very clean and the showers, very hot.
Had a great, reasonably priced meal at the 'Plough' which is 10 minutes walk from the site.
The site is ideal for the Llandegla Mountain Bike Trails or for walking in the forest.
My only criticism was the noise of the cows who wake quite early!
Thanks- lovely!

Have just returned from this site, Christine could not have been more helpful, she cut the grass before we pitched so that it was not too long, and because of all the rain we had offered us mats to put at the entrance to the tent, so that we didn't make a mess of the tent. Because of the shorter grass though didn't need to use them as ground dried out quickly.
Brilliant area for mountain bikers, site was not overly busy and most units only stayed 1/2 nights but everyone that was there were bikers!
Did not really go far, OH and son went for a ride on Saturday, whilst my daughter and I stayed on site, and went for a ride to Rhyl for the air show on the Sunday. Great site and close enough to home for a weekend, will definitely use this site again.
Only downside for us, was that there was not always toilet roll, but facilities were always clean and tidy, and drainage as other review has said is a not very good in shower room.
No playground for children, but is a stream that runs through the site, and plenty of room to kick a ball about
