When we need a break and somewhere relatively quiet to unwind, this is the site we head for, to us this site is a real home from home. On this visit (our 4th) even though the site was fuller than normal, the toilets etc were spotless and checked regularly during the day.
One of the main things we love here is that you aren't boxed up in little hedged off sections, the main field is one big field and you get the chance to meet other campers, talk with them and look at the views that surround the site.
The toilet and shower blocks are modern and clean, with good washing up facilities (our caravan sink is so small and we don't have hot running water, so this is a real positive for us) and as we have no 12volt (yet) the electrical hookups are also a necessity.
The site itself has everything we want from a site and this is made 10 times better by the owners who try hard to make your stay as comfortable as they can.
The surrounding area has plenty of things to do and places to visit, with North Wales all around you and Snowdonia just down the road.
Nearer by you have the Pondarosa cafe on the top of the Horseshoe Pass doing a great breakfast and the local pub/restaurant a short walk away on the nearby crossroads. We have to give this site 10s all around and will be back again in August for at least a long weekend if not longer.

I choose my sites carefully for location, suitability for us and carefully reading the reviews. Unfortunately on this occasion this site wasn't for us. We are a couple in a touring caravan with our mountain bikes looking for peace and enjoyment on our much cherished holidays from work. This was the last of our three site holiday and found it a very disappointing and an unhappy end to our holiday.
The site appears to be more aimed at families and tents.
The field isn't very big and the pitches aren't marked out. We went for the pitch in the corner near to the road. The road is busy as previous reviews have said but we expected that and so that wasn't a problem. The problem was the amount of kids playing football and generally messing around our caravan.
The ball hit our car, for which the kids did apologise and said they had only done this once. The site owner did say to the kids that once was once too many. Another load of kids then hit our caravan with a football and then there were kids play fighting and falling over our A frame.
This may sound anti kids but when you hire a pitch at a campsite I expect that that piece of grass to be my area and not have kids in my space.
On Christine's side, she was helpful and did speak to the kids but all I would say is that this site just isn't big enough to have kids playing football in it. Too many kids and too many footballs.
We went at the end of June to miss the school holidays but as it was a weekend we stayed at this site we seemed to have missed our objective!
The showers and toilet block were ok, we went to the showers in the evening after our mountain bike ride. Llandegla has a superb cafe and mountain biking area but next time we will look for a different site!

Took two tents this weekend for two nights, we had 3 dogs and one of us had electric, the total cost was £74 for the weekend.
The pitching fields are lovely, the facilities are clean and well kept and so are the grounds.
Our only real negative was the unclear pricing policy, and the lack of marking out of electric pitches. When we book an electric pitch we kind of expect a caravan with awning size pitch (as you pay the same), having said that we pitched in the near dark and after a chat with the owners we were made to feel comfortable.
The road by the campsite is noisy, there is no getting away from it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The site is about 150m from a X-roads with the main Wrexham-Rhuthun road, and a frequent and regular service bus passes along this route. We took advantage of this to leave the car, and visit these two towns. Well worth the visit.
We did not use the Crown pub on the X-roads, as it looked a little bit unkempt outside. The campsite however, is a delight - a little basic, but well compensated for by its location, its cleanliness, the owners Louis and Christine, and its homeliness.
The one criticism is that there is no chemical toilet disposal point, which should be provided. Louis said we could empty it at the slurry pit, which had not been operated for some time.
We only stayed three nights, so could not take advantage of all that the area offers. We shall certainly return.

A well-located campsite close to two pubs - good food! - and local attractions such as Llangollen (steam train, boat tours etc), 2 national trust properties (Errdig & Chirck Castle - well worth a visit).
Campsite a good size - 2 fields to choose from - and new-looking toilet/shower facilities. May be a wait if busy, but served us well for the tail end of August!
Owners very helpful and welcoming. Best bit is the fact that you can hire a brazier and fuel, which gave us a lovely warm evening despite the nights drawing in and unpleasant weather!
Slight disadvantages would be that it is very close to a road which is fairly busy even at night, and the early morning cows, which were much keener on being awake than we were.
Also, when planning daytrips, there are lots of things to do much closer than those listed on their (otherwise very good) website.
Overall a good stay, would certainly recommend.

Thoroughly recommended.
Christine tried to deter us from booking as she had a party of Tongan rugby players and their families (a group of 40+!) but we were determined, and so glad we did - we had a whale of a time, even getting some of their pig-roast.
Fields are flat and easy to pitch in.
Christine ensures site is quiet at night.
If you are arriving with a trailer or caravan take the left fork on arrival and swing round right behind the silo to get into the field - even in a car that's the easiest way as the turn is tight otherwise.
Toilets and showers lovely & clean (newly installed). Unisex showers - 2 singles and a 'family' room. Plastic boxes in showers for storing clothes and towels rather than hooks - nice idea as long as everyone gets it - the box in my shower was full of water and so could not be used for my clean dry stuff. Toilets - 2 cubicles in Ladies and 2 sinks.
Can hire braziers and fuel for chilly nights - a great idea - every campsite should have them! Christine supplies a fire blanket for putting underneath to prevent grass getting scorched.
Site is in a lovely area, minutes from the Horseshoe Pass and Llangollen (by car) and close to Offa's Dyke footpath.

A superb site where we thoroughly enjoyed a weekend break. Christine and Louis cannot do enough to ensure you have a good break.
I found the site easy to find - the postcode is accurate for the satnav. The entrance gate to the site and also the turn into the main field is a bit tight with a caravan (my unit is 23-feet) but Christine helpfully guided me in an out with no scrapes.
The grass is well maintained and you'll find friendly chickens roaming the site. It is obvious it is mainly a tent biased site as we were the only caravan there, but we had a hookup no problems and easy access to water and a level pitch on beautiful lush grass.
The toilet and shower blocks are immaculate. The showers are superb with great pressure and no limit on the water - but the floor has been laid level which means that the water doesn't drain. Others have reported this too. They provide large plastic boxes to keep belongings safe.
Lots to do in the area. The Crown pub maybe 100metres away has a great menu at good prices. We ate there both nights and thoroughly enjoyed all we ate.
We had visit to the lead mines at Minera and enjoyed a walk in the hills nearby. We also enjoyed a rainy day in Wrexham (note for next time, the local swimming pool is meant to be superb for kids). Recommend eating at the Horse and Jockey - best pub grub ever.
We also enjoyed a leisurely few hours at the trout fishery around the corner en-route to Wrexham - good value too at £12 for a day pass. Whilst I caught nowt, the guy facing pulled in three lovely specimens that you could take home to eat if you so pleased.
The weather during our visit prevented us taking advantage of hiring a brazier but we look forward going again when the forecast is better.
The way Christine lays out the pitches, the tents go around the outside of the large field and it leaves a nice space in the centre where kids naturally gather to play. Very tranquil.
A few points to note:
- I couldn't find an Elsan point - but used the regular toilet for this without problem.
- I could not get any TV reception even with a high-gain aerial and amplifier
- I could not get telephone coverage (I'm on the O2 network). It was great to be off-line all weekend as my BlackBerry was a brick at this site!
Our three kids spend all their time building damns in the river and went through a weekends worth of clothes in one-night. They loved Llyn Rhys. See you soon!

This was our first time camping trip since having kids and they absolutely loved it.
The owners were really friendly and eager to help. The field was well kept and level. Having an open fire to hire for the evening was great for keeping toastie.
Best of all were the toilet and washing facilities! They were brand new, in superb condition, with the addition of a family shower room which proved v handy.
The only slight criticism was the road nearby which did have motorbikes roaring past. However, at such a reasonable price, we will definitely be going back soon.

Just got back from a wetish weekend and had a great time.
Christine lovely - helpful and friendly.
New shower and toilet blocks are the nicest we've seen and have lovely details like step for children, handwash, nice loo roll! Good indoor pot wash with washing up bowls and drying rack. Safe locked bike store which is great for this area.
Llandegla forest park with its great mountain bike trails is very close by - maybe 1/2 mile - and the views from the campsite are of the forest.
Smallish site but felt roomy with not too many tents and no huge demand on the facilities.
Great for families with room to run about and a lovely stream for paddling, but no playground.
Very close to quite a busy road but the traffic was only busy during the day and was not a problem with earplugs - perhaps the only negative of this site and outweighed by the lovely facilities and proximity to LLandegla.
Finally, we ate and drank at The Crown very short walk away and the food, beer and people were great.
Great value and we will definitely be back.

This was our very first camping trip and we were very nervous we would break some unwritten camping rule that we knew nothing about.
We need not have worried Christine and Louis were very helpful and reassured us it was all a learning curve and we would enjoy it, they were right. It is a beautiful spot with spotless facilities
A small stream runs around the big field and it is very peaceful.
Electric hook ups, braziers are available to hire. Logs can be bought as well so we were very please with our stay and will return.
