What a lovely site this is especially for children ! the site is basically on part of the farm car park and surrounding grass area ! there is a fairly modern toilet/shower block and small shop on site. There are lots of farm animals around (the kids loved the goats) and an Owl rescue sanctuary alongside (which is a must to visit) the Farm is a 5 minute walk from the village centre which has a small shop and a couple of pubs, there is also a good bus service on the main road to Telford, Newport and Stafford

Being caravan 'virgins' we chose this site as it is close to home, the staff were all very friendly and the site was perfect for our 'first time'. The pitch we had was large and easy to manoeuvre the caravan onto, Clean water and waste disposal were easily accessible. Some people have mentioned 'unisex' toilets being a problem but we were very happy with them, in fact we even have them at home as it saves one of us going down the garden to the 'privvy' |There are lots of animals for the kids to visit and overall we think this is a splendid site. The scones and cream in the tearooms are delicious, as is the home made ice cream mmmm Dave and Jill

Just come back from Red Lion Farm. Excellent showers, these are unisex as are the toilets but clean, lots of hot water free with push button usage.
Sink for washing dishes, all clean and tidy.
The farm has petting animals for the kids and a plentiful supply of nearby walks and cycle tracks.
The caravan fields are quite flat, some dip down at the rear, but the all you have to do is keep your caravan slightly forward and there is minimum levelling required.
The Bell pub is recommended for food, we enjoyed live music when we were there as it was the beer festival. Good butchers, convenience shop a short walk away. Haughton has repeatedly won best village in bloom award, so very pretty at the moment.
No play areas for the kids so possibly more suited to adults unless you go as a group. The farmer leaves you to it, no extra charge for awnings or dogs, and as a further recommendation, we have booked to go back already, and at £12. 00 per night this compares well to caravan club CL sites.

This is our third visit to the site but I don't think we'll go back again. The facilities are deteriorating and no effort has been made to upgrade or improve them in the three years we've been visiting and the wasp problem appears to be getting worse.
The site is accessed from the main road via a fairly narrow country lane but is easily accessible.
The pitches are of a good size, with a mixture of grass and shale/hard standing to choose from.
The site accepts well behaved dogs which must always be on a lead but there is no on site compound and no dog walk close by other than via a fairly dangerous narrow, country lane.
There are a number of local pubs with good menu's within walking distance, a corner shop and the County town of Stafford is only a couple of miles up the road with good bus service offering good shopping facilities.
The cost of the site is very reasonable - but I'd rather pay a couple of pounds a night more for better facilities
There are a number of taps for drinking water and grey and foul waste points.
The pitches had a number of 'ruts' in them this year and the ground around the pitch was uneven with a number of pits and holes sufficient to turn your ankle if you weren't careful
There is a tea shop on site (but it doesn't open until 10. 30) and serves a light lunch selection rather than breakfast but you can buy milk and ice cream which has been made on the farm from the farms own herd and; they have a selection of local butter and cheese and a small gift/frozen goods farm shop on site.
HOWEVER as are result of the product manufactured on the farm, even in late July before wasp season really gets under way the site is OVER RUN WITH WASPS and there is no effort to manage the on site wasp infestation whatsoever.
The tea shop and farm animals are very popular with local mums with small children, so on a nice day, the shop and garden are very busy. They have rabbits, sheep, cows, alpaca, hens, ducks and a couple of horses in pens and fields where you can pet the animals if they feel inclined to let you and feed them bread if you have some to hand.
Each year that we go back the site facilities seem to deteriorate a little or are not upgraded in response to the numerous comments.
There are only two showers, situated in the main toilet block which are communal, one of which doesn't work unless you hold the water button down for the duration of your shower, which makes applying shower gel and shampoo somewhat of a challenge.
The showers share a communal drain plug so if the shower next to you is in use, you find yourself standing in someone else's dirty water and soap suds, so that's not very pleasant.
The showers would benefit from a proper floor squeegee rather than the dirty cloth mops which sit in a bucket of mucky water, inside your cubicle.
In spite of being secured with a latched door there is a secondary PVC shower curtain which is sited so close to the shower head that once drawn the curtain sticks to you as you try to shower, which if you are having to hold one hand on the shower button to get water is very annoying indeed but if you don't keep the secondary curtain drawn the angle of the fixed shower head, sprays your clean dry clothes which you need to hang over the cubicle walls
And finally, there is no where to sit to dry yourself, so unless you are agile, young, fit and able, drying your feet is impossible.
There is a coin operated tumble dryer and washing machine and a large sink which appears to be used by other visitors for washing up crocks and hand washing.
The facilities could be greatly improved by:
Separating the showering and toilet facilities in to male and female
Increasing the number of showers available so that when the site is full (as it was with a local rally when we visited) you can still get a shower without having to wait too long
Adding a shower tray and individualising the water drainage to eliminate the need to stand in someone else's dirty water
Repairing the existing showers in the meantime so you don't have to hold down the water button
Removing the dirty looking mop buckets from the shower cubicles and replacing them with a proper floor squeegees
Adding a seating facility to the shower cubicles
Allocating a proper dog walking area
And
Last but not least, humanely managing the wasp problem

Good points - fantastic value(£12 per night). Spacious pitches, friendly welcome, great tea shop. Enjoyed seeing the farm animals. Toilet facilities were clean.
Bad points - toilet and shower facilities were unisex with only 2 showers available so we used our own shower. Poorly sign posted from the main road - just showed a sign for 'Ice Cream Farm'.

We stayed here for a couple of nights.
The good points:
*Good size pitches
*All pitches have EHU
*Shop and Tea Room and Ice Cream on site
*Easy walk into Haughton for pubs, restaurants etc
*Bus in Haughton for Stafford or Telford
The Bad Points:
*Unisex facilities with only two showers - just not adequate for 30 pitches.
*Clear glass window to toilet block
*Only two sinks and no private facilities for 'strip wash'
*Showers share a drain point so you shower standing in someone else's dirty water.
*No chair in shower not so good if you are unsteady on your feet.
I felt very uncomfortable with the shared facilities and won't be back. When I mentioned this to a staff member all I got was a shrug and 'other people say the same'. Glad we were only there for two nights.

A clean well laid out side with good access, that is divided into two separate grass and hardstanding areas. As always we plummeted for a hardstanding pitch, although the grass looks very well drained, with no tell tell ruts to indicate soft patches.
First thing to point out is that this is also a working farm with farm shop and tearoom, so be prepared for day visitors dropping into the area for a coffee and a bite to eat. The upside being that extra features are also available to people staying on site too.
I didn't use the site toilets or showers as the very word 'unisex' was enough to mean I didn't patronise them. Call me old fashioned but eh! If they are like the rest of the site, they will be immaculate inside though.
All in all, a nice site, easy to get to and with very friendly staff, well worth a visit.

We're new to caravanning and wanted a small site close to home for our first weekend away in Nellie (all 'vans should have a name!).
We arrived on friday afternoon, just before the teashop closed and the friendly staff directed us to our pitch near to the goats.
The grass pitches here have a nice big hardstanding area in front, so that I could just swing my car and 'van round and reverse straight in (phew!). We soon pitched up and as others have said, the facilities are basic, with shared showers & toilets and the laundry & handwash for visitors feeding the rabbits also in the same room! This didn't bother us though.
Our kids (aged 6 & 9) loved the fact that we were on a working farm (so expect some animal noise!)and wanted to adopt a goat each when we came to leave on Sunday!
We popped into Stafford the following day which is a 5-10 minute drive away, we spent a couple of hours in the town and visited the Ancient High House, which we all found interesting and best of all, free! On the way out of Stafford, there is a large Tesco which we stopped at for supplies.
Back on site, we visited the teashop to try the ice cream that they make there on the farm which was very nice!
Overall, Red Lion Farm is a very nice little site, with clean, no frills facilities. Its perfect for a couple of nights getaway or a good stop off for longer journeys.
We'll be back in the future, to say hello to the goats and for more ice cream!

As promised, our second trip to this campsite and we weren't disappointed either! The Alpacas were really friendly and Rocky the sheep still enjoys lots of attention :-) This is a lovely little site for small children as they have lots of animals to look at and plenty of space to play. We were even treated to a display of owls from the neighbouring rescue centre which was wonderful.
Owners are very friendly and helpful. When we arrived, the grass pitches were a little muddy due to the April showers, so they offered us a choice of pitching on the hard-standing section in front of the grass if we preferred. This was refreshing, as a lot of sites are very particular about where/how you pitch your caravan/motorhome.
Very cheap at £12. 50 a night and the tea-rooms also do a take-away, which we were pleased about as we took the dog this time round. Although we couldn't take the dog into the tea-room (which was expected), the site is still very dog-friendly.
TV gets a perfect signal, but 3G is virtually non-existent which is worth noting. There was a decent phone signal however.
We will definitely return again :)

My wife and I stopped here for 2 night on the way home from colne. This is a clean site well maintained, toilet and shower building was very clean, it is unisex but we had no problem as there is plenty room in shower cubicle to change, it may not suit some. It took a couple of minutes to find where to book in, it was at the house behind the toilet block. We arrived late when it was dark therefore had to wait till morning to look round, it is a working farm and there is a path for campers to walk round and see the game birds and animals and a owl rescue sanctuary, it was not open till the following week but the chap let us look round, we had a very enjoyable morning then caught the bus into Stafford £2. 40 each way took 20 mins. It is 16amp hook-up and £12 per night, well worth it. We shall stop here again on the way home from the north. They made us very welcome, have lovely home made ice cream and shop with inexpensive cafe. Ricky
