Lovely site, if a little exposed. We had beautiful weather, and loved the views and the location for birds. Simple, clean, and very adequate modern toilet facilities and outdoor but sheltered washing up with plenty of free hot water. Efficient family who run the site, welcoming and very helpful. Only away one night visiting the area, and it was spot-on. Good value for money. Walked to the local pub for our evening meal, which was good too.

Stayed here for three nights with friends, there was only one other caravan there, but filled up on our last night. We stayed here to visit Alton Towers and was an easy journey to there. Beautiful setting but be prepared for wind. Toilets were kept very clean, the showers were a little too hot for me and one of them you had to press the button every ten seconds which was a little annoying! The ground was quite hard and bumpy so think if you were in a tent you'd need a good airbed. Owner was very friendly and overall a lovely site.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Common End Farm campsite.
The site is easy to find, well sign posted and ideally located just a 2 minute drive from the pleasant town of Ashbourne and has numerous local attractions within a short driving distance including Carsington Water, Thorpe Cloud and Dovedale. (All very picturesque and well worth a visit!)
The local pub the Dog and Partridge is only a 10 minute stroll from the site and is very friendly and seemed to be a very popular place to eat with a choice of bar menu or a la carte restaurant. We had a nice meal one evening to give ourselves a treat, and found the prices not too excessive.
The site was very well maintained, grass cut on a regular basis, a nice modern rustic toilet block which was kept very clean indeed.
Two outdoor sinks with plenty of hot water on tap are provided under cover, and also a chest freezer for your ice packs. Loan ice packs were also provided which was a nice touch.
All in all although the weather let us down we had a lovely stay and we would not hesitate in recommending this site or returning ourselves on a future occasion!

We spent two nights at this site where we were testing our new tent. The site is nice and flat and when we got there we were the only campers. However later on during the evening half a dozen more tents went up.
The owners appeared friendly, not that we had any reason to seek them out with problems.
The showers were adequate although in the men's bathroom the lights operate on a timed motion sensor, therefore you might like myself, end up showering in the dark!
The tiled floor could prove a bit slippery. Washing up facilities and freezer were acceptable. We chose the site as it is located fairly near Dovedale, beautiful scenery and a lovely walk.
We would return to this site if the opportunity arose.

The field is quite uneven but we managed to get a fairly level pitch, just be prepared for a bumpy ride to your pitch and lots of manoeuvring to get your caravan as level as you can.
The owners were lovely and have left lots of helpful information about the surrounding area and local pubs on a board by the washing up area. The tap for filling up your water containers wasn't easy to find, could do with a sign up to identify it.
The shower block was modern and clean, only two showers (nice and hot) in women's but didn't have to wait in a queue to use them but was there very early in the morning.
The kids loved the site as there were quite a few families there and a big tree with a den underneath and a couple of rope swings, they were sad to go home.
We love this area and visited Ashbourne and Bakewell while there. Can recommend the local chippy in Ashbourne.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at common end farm and was really pleased with our late choice of booking.
The lady owner was really friendly and helpful showing us to the pitch (electric) and also when we asked for some directions for a local walk. The site is not overly big but then again we prefer that as you can keep track of the kids.
The showers and toilets were almost brand new and spotless. Would definitely go back which I think is the acid test of any campsite.
Only downside I can think of was the wasps which although didn't sting any of us became a bit of a nuisance.

Just returned from a 2 night stay. As with previous comments the showers and toilet facilities are brilliant, the pitches are large and you don't have that closed in feeling.
Possibly my only gripe would be that when we booked I asked if we could stay over the noon departure on the Sunday, and was told that shouldn't be a problem, when we arrived and booked in I mentioned this again and was told no you have to be off by noon.
However, on the Sunday my husband approached the owners and we were told we were ok until tea-time.
Other than that, we had a lovely stay, plenty of other young children for our son to play with and a large central field for them to run around in.
An ideal location for surrounding areas.

We chose this campsite due to its proximity to Alton Towers and decided to make a three-night stay out of our trip. Had a great day walking in Dovedale, nearby.
It took about 15mins to drive to Alton Towers, which was soooo much nicer than the 2-hour journey from Leeds that we would've had to do otherwise!
Also, I'm really glad we stayed so close to A.T. because we were exhausted after the long day and it was brilliant to get back 'home' so quickly, for a change.
The campsite itself was great. No gimmicks - just real camping. Large field, which is sloped in many places and a bit bumpy, but we found a reasonably flat space and even though the site was fully booked, there was loads of space between all the tents and a massive area in the middle (good for the few kids that were there).
In fact, the kids were really well behaved and actually played made-up games and talked to each other, rather than screaming like banshees! I think the fact that there is no playground actually meant that the families who choose to go to Common End are of the sort that spend time with each other and encourage their children to make their own entertainment. It was really nice to hear them playing!
The washing up area was well covered, though the sinks are quite low. Good links with local pub.
I was very impressed with the toilet/shower block. It was clearly an old farm building, so I was expecting lots of spiders, but it was virtually spotless and really clean.
There were 3 sinks, 3 toilets and 2 showers in the ladies. I didn't see any spiders, bugs or moths the whole time we were there. Just the way I like it!
Showers were really warm (possibly too hot for small children though). We didn't have to queue, but we showered in evening. I saw people queuing in the mornings.
Only downside was the tiled floor. It looked great (dark grey), but was uber slippery when wet. I heard at least 2 people talking about how they'd fallen over and I skidded once. Other than that, it was great. I was especially pleased to find a plug and mirror so I could dry my hair!
We will definitely recommend this campsite to our friends and will certainly attempt to stay here next time we go to Alton Towers or walking in Derbyshire.

Lovely, quiet little site, surrounded by wonderful countryside of Peak District. Owner very welcoming but never intrusive.
Facilities kept very clean and we felt perfectly adequate for a site of this size (two showers in ladies).
Plenty of space for kids to run around and local walks a plenty.
Handy pub just down the road with great garden for the kids when they tire of hills, caves and rivers and want table tennis and swings instead.

We stayed at this lovely campsite for a night recently. We were made to feel very welcome even when we rang to enquire about booking.
We were greeted with a warm welcome by the owner who explained everything we needed to know.
The site and the facilities are fantastic.
Although the ground is uneven, we and everyone else on the site found a flat place to pitch. We managed to get our car on without a problem and we drive a very low car!
Fantastic views of the surrounding area and only 5 minutes fro Ashbourne.
Great site, will definitely be going back.
