Found this campsite on this website, read the reviews and booked in. This is a fantastic campsite, situated in a beautiful area of Barra. Very tranquil with breath taking views across the bay. Woke every morning to a stunning sunrise! The owner was friendly, helpful and felt like an old friend who was full of information of places to see, visit and local knowledge/history. Although this site has basic amenities it just made the visit even more of an experience! I would recommend this site to anyone wanting to stay on Barra. We chose to stay in accommodation in Castlebay on our final night and both wish we had stayed at the campsite instead! We will definitely go back!

We stayed at croft no. 2 for four nights in July 2014 with two teenagers, one of whom camped in a tent adjacent to the van. This is simply the most beautiful spot on Barra, with direct access to the beach and views across Barra sound. We windsurfed from the beach, which is a perfect flatwater location and safe in a southerly. When the wind dropped, I canoed and spotted crabs on the otherwise spotless sea floor. We could hear the seals 'singing' across the bay, something I had not experienced before.
We were made to feel very welcome by the owners of the site and having not really done many small sites before, I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly it was. You really need your own facilities here as there is just water, hook up and chem disposal point, which is quite basic but I would recommend this site to anyone who is wanting to visit the western isles, or outer hebrides as they are more often known.
We would all love to re-visit this spot again in the future.

We spent 10 fantastic nights on the Isle of Barra which were enhanced by staying those nights on Croft No2. The warmth of the welcome from Mary was perfect after a long drive and ferry crossing. Mary's baking prowess has been mentioned elsewhere on this page and we can confirm the quality, what a bonus. The location is superb only a very short distance from the beautiful beach which goes on for miles. This is a limited facilities site but does have electric hook ups and is on a well cared for lawned area with fine views across to Erisscay. There is an adjacent building with a dining table and chairs, information, a washing machine and tumble dryer. Nothing is a problem here, just ask.
The Isle of Barra is a delight, uncrowded, peaceful and the people are very welcoming. Don't be shy about joining in any of their events, this is a really close community and welcomes participation from all. The beaches and countryside a stunning. You can walk for miles on a beach and not see another human. We saw dolphins, minkie whale, otter, golden eagles and a huge variety of smaller birds, most evenings we would hear the corncrakes in the long grass behind our caravan, wonderful! Wild flower are in abundance with a good mix of orchids.
Vattersay a small island to the south and connected by a causeway should not be missed. Lovely views and beaches. Don't miss the tea room in the community hall, great cakes!
In Castlebay there is a Co-op, a bank and a small variety of other shops with free WiFi in the community shop. Various places to eat out if required around the island. We also bought fresh fish from Barra Atlantic the local fish processing plant, very cheap and straight from the sea. Barra airport is well worth a stop off as you pass by and has a good cafe.
We will be returning as soon as possible.

We had a lovely stay on this Croft. Our ferry was delayed so we arrived late on a Sunday evening to find Mary waiting to welcome us. The photos do not do the site and the views justice, this is a really lovely spot and a very quiet site as it is at the end of the road. We were not sure whether to stay at this site or a Croft a little way down the same road, I'm glad we chose Croft No 2 as the other site was a bit crowded and busy for us. The walk to the beach is very close and the beach is a good one. My husband went snorkelling one evening. Mary supplied scones one evening, much appreciated. Barra is a special place and don't miss out the walk on Vartesay with its 2 excellent beaches. We timed a walk from the site just right to see the scheduled plane land on the beach a couple of miles down the road. And don't forget to wave and acknowledge anyone who drives by as you go around the island, it's that sort of place.

Stayed two nights on this fantastic site, have booked to come back in June, loved it so much. Owners are very friendly, could not do enough for us. At the moment there are no toilets or showers, but owners have plans to put these in place. There are washing and drying facilities available. Campsite us very sheltered, with breath taking views, there is a path directly onto a fabulous white sandy beach. We were welcomed on arrival with delicious home baking. Thank you so much, see you in June.

We hadn't booked on this site and unfortunately it was full but the lovely owner said he could put up an electric hook up for us just outside the gates by the barn. It was flat, grass and just perfect. Ok the single track road wasn't far away but as there is only one house past the site owners there was very little traffic. Proper hook up was installed within the hour. It was windy and sunny and we took the path to the beach and walked along it for miles! Stunning beach and great site. Water, CWP but no showers or toilets. He showed us round - washing machine and whirly outside or rope in barn for drying the laundry. We cooked fresh seafood which we had bought from the fish factory that day during our travels. We have a toilet in our romahome and could manage without a shower for a day! Superb site and such a friendly owner. As we left the next morning he came round with home baking for us. I would certainly recommend the site to anyone

The welcome here starts with home made cake on arrival.
A nice touch.
A field on their croft facing and with direct access to the coast.
A perfect position for walking in north Barra directly from the site. Also not far from the airport to watch the unique runway on the beach.
Field is not completely flat but with no pitches marked it is easy to find a good spot. As yet they have no amenity block but have accessible hook-up and a Cwd.
The young couple are working hard to offer a good service, in our case that included finding bolt cutters to remove a broken bike lock!
A very recommended site.

A warm welcome by the owner especially as the weather was very cold when we arrived. Wonderful views and the site had everything we needed. The home made freshly baked scones were delicious and nice touch as the owner said she liked to bake for her guests. The site was level, the water and chemical waste disposal were easy to use. There is a washing machine available and a large byre with washing lines to get it dry. We would recommend this site to anyone visiting Barra

Perfect place to stay. Remote enough to experience peace and quiet, but Barra is a small island and Castlebay with its Co-op plus handful of cafes and hotels is only 10 miles or so away. Mary and Angus are perfect hosts and are ready with cakes and advice should you need it!
It has all we need - electric hook-up, water, chemical disposal, a barn with washing machine and a line on which to dry any washing you might need to do. Plus you are only yards from a perfect white sand beach with its views over to Eriskay and all the birds you could wish for.
We loved it and hope to make a return visit very soon.

Lovely site location for peace & quiet and an authentic experience of a Hebridean croft.
Friendly owners went out of their way to accommodate us when we arrived near midnight following an extended ferry journey. Home baking and local knowledge were greatly appreciated too.
There are no frills on this site to distract you from all that is beautiful about Barra - that's its charm. Would recommend this unspoilt little haven - our visit was all too short!
